“This is… Bai Mei Sheng.” Jie Zhongyi carefully examined Feng Jingzhuo and reached a conclusion.
As soon as he spoke, Ning Yuzhu and Chu Xiao exploded.
Ning Yuzhu: “Bai Mei Sheng? What is that? Sounds like some kind of beauty-enhancing medicine. Did Brother Zhuo take Bai Mei Sheng to become this good-looking?”
Chu Xiao: “You country bumpkin! Bai Mei Sheng—it’s obviously a poison!”
He didn’t even let Jie Zhongyi get a word in before he started explaining: “Outside—outside our mountain—anything with the word ‘Mei’ in it always has that meaning. The top courtesans in brothels are called ‘Mei Niang.’ The lowest-ranking disciples in the Hehuan Sect are called ‘Mei Nu.’ And in the Fengxie Dao Sect, women of a certain status are called ‘Chi Mei.’”
After he finished, he even turned to Ning Yao for confirmation. “Right, Yao Yao?”
Ning Yao had never been to those places, but judging by Chu Xiao’s knowledge, it seemed like he had been to plenty.
She stepped in to control the scene. “Both of you, shut up and let Grandmaster speak.”
Jie Zhongyi also glared at the two of them, especially at Chu Xiao, before turning back to Feng Jingzhuo. He patted his shoulder reassuringly. “Kid, don’t be scared. We can solve this.”
Seeing his unease, Ning Yao leaned over and tugged at his sleeve. “Jingzhuo, sit down and listen. Sit here.” She patted the spot beside her.
Chu Xiao chimed in, “Yeah, it’s not like you’re being punished to stand.”
Ning Yuzhu added, “Brother Zhuo, don’t be shy. Here, have some sunflower seeds.”
Feng Jingzhuo looked at them, and his tension gradually faded. He sat down with perfect poise—neither too rigid nor too casual—an air of composed maturity that naturally drew people in.
Jie Zhongyi glanced at the three slouching, leaning, and lounging figures and rolled his eyes before turning back to Feng Jingzhuo with a kind expression. “Jingzhuo, Bai Mei Sheng is a unique aphrodisiac from the Fengxie Dao Sect. It is said that once it enters the meridians, it can never be removed. But there is a condition…”
“What?! That’s despicable!” Ning Yuzhu slammed the table. “How could they use something so dirty and humiliating?!”
Chu Xiao frowned, seemingly recalling something. He clenched his fists in anger, then waved his hand at Feng Jingzhuo as if patting him on the shoulder. “That’s rough, that’s really rough, Jingzhuo. But don’t worry, don’t worry, we got you.”
Ning Yao followed up, “Yeah, we got you. Old Jie, quick, transfer that thing to Chu Xiao instead.”
“Can you guys shut up??” Jie Zhongyi was speechless. Could they be a little more dignified? Feng Jingzhuo was sitting right here! Did they forget who he was? The most crucial figure in the Bodhi Clan’s ascension plan! He had to genuinely like their people, had to genuinely like Ning Yao! Could they at least try to leave him with a good impression—wise, sharp, and dignified?
Jie Zhongyi secretly glanced at Feng Jingzhuo, only to find that he was smiling.
His lips were full and well-shaped, a beautiful curve that, when slightly upturned, radiated warmth and joy.
Wait—was he smiling because he found these people ridiculous? Jie Zhongyi quickly redirected the conversation. “Ahem, right. This kind of worm rests in the heart meridian, moves at night, and emerges when startled. After activity, it tends to stay on the face, resembling a mole. It fears injury and bl00d—you probably already noticed these things.”
Feng Jingzhuo answered in a low voice, “Yes.”
Jie Zhongyi continued, “The method I can think of is to stimulate damage to the heart meridian. The worm will panic and flee.”
Hearing the key point, Ning Yao and the other two leaned in unison. Because of those four words—“stimulate damage to the heart meridian”—they all furrowed their brows in the same way, ears perked up to hear the rest.
Feng Jingzhuo’s heart softened. He said, “Senior Jie, dragon clan life force is strong. Damaging the heart meridian won’t be a problem.”
Jie Zhongyi flipped through a bamboo scroll and muttered, “No, that won’t do… It’s not like there’s no other way… If someone helps guard your meridians and counteracts the energy used to stimulate the heart meridian, in theory, the pain can be avoided…”
Feng Jingzhuo said, “Senior, this will deplete the cultivators’ internal energy.”
Ning Yao interjected, “It won’t take much. We can just train again.”
Then she asked Jie Zhongyi, “Grandmaster, how many people are needed? Would three be enough?”
“Three would be plenty.”
Chu Xiao slammed the table. “Then it’s settled! You deal with the worm, and the three of us will protect him. Done.”
Ning Yuzhu rubbed his ears in annoyance. “Could you be a little less rough? Brother Zhuo would never act like that—he’s so refined. Old Jie, when do we start?”
Jie Zhongyi pointed at the sky. “Not at night. We need sunlight. Tomorrow morning, lets meet here.”
And just like that, they decided, without even asking Feng Jingzhuo’s opinion.
Feng Jingzhuo tried to speak. “I…”
Everyone looked at him.
Unexpectedly, their overwhelming goodwill left him more flustered than hostility ever had. He said, “I don’t know… how I can repay you… I’m willing to do anything.”
Ning Yao was the first to respond. “Oh, come on. That worm was inside you—it must’ve been awful. Now that we know, of course we have to help you get rid of it. How about this—you make me a new set of tables and chairs. I want a big conference table with armchairs, and the backrests should have a slight tilt for comfort.”
Chu Xiao’s eyes lit up. “Jingzhuo, can you make things? Then can you sew clothes? Make me a new outfit—I saw a really trendy style in town, I’ll describe it to you later.”
Ning Yuzhu added, “I want a wheelchair.”
Ning Yao asked, “Don’t you have legs?”
Ning Yuzhu rolled his eyes. “I just don’t want to walk. Can’t I have one? It’s a luxury, and you’re too stingy to buy me one.”
Jie Zhongyi had had enough. “Do you guys have no shame?! Taking advantage of him like this?”
Feng Jingzhuo was about to speak, but Jie Zhongyi cleared his throat. “Jingzhuo, just make me a pair of shoes.”
Feng Jingzhuo couldn’t help but laugh. He nodded. “Alright, I’ll remember.”
And so, it was settled.

Ning Yao didn’t really love Jingzhou. She just used him. Too bad for him suffering for a thousand years in guilt for killing her when that was really her goal in the first place.
