- Chapter 14.2 - Ning Yao opened her mouth and asked directly, "Why..."
Ning Yao cannot believe what she just heard.
Confused. She asked, “I haven’t even spoken to him yet.”
He said, “You don’t need to. Our Xuanwu Clan is skilled in reincarnation magic. We know the past and future. Our master is the best at it. There’s nothing he doesn’t know—Mountain Lord, our clans aren’t meant to be friends. Please don’t be offended.”
He added, “It has nothing to do with you bringing little money.”
Ning Yao snapped, “That’s a really rude thing to say! ”
The round-faced man looked awkward again. He glanced at Feng Jingzhuo, asking for help. “Young Master Feng, please help calm her down. You love Luoxiang Mountain, right? Don’t you want to stay there?”
Feng Jingzhuo’s gaze turned cold. He gave the man a glance.
The round-faced man shut up.
Ning Yao felt frustrated. She didn’t want to give up this chance to protect her people. If something happened to them, even if she ascended to the heavens one day, it wouldn’t mean anything.
“Can I speak with Lord Yuwen directly?”
He shook his head. “Our master says you will meet him once in your life—but not today.”
Ning Yao asked, “What if I force my way up there?”
“You won’t. You’re not that kind of person.”
Ning Yao stood silently for a while.
It was true. She didn’t like forcing others, and she wouldn’t go where she wasn’t welcome. Besides, even if she met him, he could still say no with another excuse. The result would be the same.
“Alright, fine,” Ning Yao nodded. She turned to leave, then suddenly turned back. “I’m a proper Mountain Lord, and you said I’m poor. I’ll remember you—big pancake face.”
Sure, they didn’t fight, but the words hit hard on both sides.
Feng Jingzhuo had felt sorry for her, disappointed that her wish didn’t come true. He was about to say something, but after hearing her witty comeback, he held his laughter behind a fake cough.
Better not say anything. Or it might look like bullying.
They walked down the mountain side by side. The round-faced man called after Ning Yao, “Mountain Lord Ning, wait—I have something else to say.”
He said, “Even though you and our master will only meet once, your connection is deep. To help you fulfill your wish sooner, he wanted me to give you a message… It’s from him, not me! ”
Ning Yao said, “Go ahead.”
He said, “Mountain Lord Ning, you have a great mind and a big heart. But the person beside you… may not be worthy. Feng Jingzhuo was once a male concubine. His hands are stained with the lives of over a hundred people. He was also banished by Cangyuan. Please think carefully—Is he worth it?”
It was clearly a message he didn’t want to deliver. After saying it, he ran away without looking back.
Ning Yao stood there, frozen.
This wasn’t what she expected.
When she heard the phrase “help you fulfill your wish,” she was actually hopeful. The Xuanwu Clan’s master really did seem to know a lot.
If she had a wish in her heart, it was to ascend, and to do that, she needed to follow the “prove the path by killing the beloved” technique. That required Feng Jingzhuo to fall in love with her. And right now… She was stuck on that step.
Ning Yao thought this round-faced guy would say something that made her seem likable enough to make Feng Jingzhuo fall for her. But what did he say? It’s not helpful. Those words wouldn’t make Feng Jingzhuo fall in love—if anything, they’d scare him off.
Feng Jingzhuo was her only chance to ascend. Without him, how was she supposed to ascend at all?
Ning Yao turned her head stiffly. “Jingzhuo…”
His face was very pale.
Ever since the day they started talking about how to deal with Bai Mei Sheng, he hadn’t looked like this. That expression on his face—it was just like when he had first arrived at Luo Xiang Mountain.
Ning Yao took a step forward. “Jingzhuo…”
Feng Jingzhuo stepped back. He didn’t even dare to look at her.
Ning Yao pressed her lips together. Round-face guy, you’re lucky you ran fast.
Well, whether that message was meant to be helpful or just plain useless, it was too late to change anything now. She didn’t want to dig too deep. She couldn’t even if she tried. She only wanted to say what she needed to say:
“Jingzhuo, don’t hate yourself. It was just two sentences. They don’t change anything. I’m still the same as I was a moment ago, the same as I was yesterday and the day before that. You’re still the same to me too.”
“If it really bothers you, we can just talk it out. You tell me why you were banished from Cangyuan, and I’ll believe you.”
Feng Jingzhuo stayed quiet for a moment, then said softly, “In Cangyuan, Lord Sang ruled one area. I was the son of his enemy. So, I was guilty by bl00d.”
Ning Yao nodded. That matched what he had said before about being punished for someone else’s crime. “Okay. Let’s move on from that. But… did you really kill many people?”
Feng Jingzhuo lowered his head. His eyes filled with a faint layer of tears.
“Yes,” he said quietly.
Ning Yao opened her mouth in disbelief and asked directly, “Why…”
Ning Yao didn’t hesitate. “Why? Like I said, whatever you tell me, I’ll believe it.”

Ning Yao didn’t really love Jingzhou. She just used him. Too bad for him suffering for a thousand years in guilt for killing her when that was really her goal in the first place.
