- Chapter 22.1 - “We’re All Gods, So Let’s Just Acknowledge…”
The story of the Fallen God ended there. Ning Yao listened with lingering fascination—no matter how you put it, she had to admit, he was indeed someone.
As a god who feared neither heaven nor earth, only restrained by the Scorched Sea of Divine Flame, just hearing those four words made her spine tingle, and this man had thrown himself in willingly and walked in it for three thousand years.
Not three incense sticks.
Not three days.
Not even three years.
Three thousand years. What kind of iron will that take?
Thinking it over, her initial impression of the Fallen God—as some kind of villain—had shifted into something more nuanced. He wasn’t evil, just a god with a past few understood.
She asked, “So the Fallen God wants to activate the Reverse Time Array, but it’s not because he wants to do harm, is it?”
Flame Lord Wuji and Wu Fulai both fell silent.
After a pause, Flame Lord Wuji finally said, “He is a man of utmost righteousness and kindness. Asking him to commit evil is no different than asking him to die.”
“I’ve sent over a dozen powerful gods to stop him—some tried persuasion, some tried force—but he always avoided them without hurting a single one. He refuses to turn back, but he also refuses to harm anyone. It’s… troublesome, honestly.”
Ning Yao nodded. Yeah, that was troublesome:
You can’t bring yourself to kill him, but if you don’t, he won’t behave.
Flame Lord Wuji looked at Ning Yao for a long time, then sighed deeply.
“I can’t say whose spiritual power is stronger—yours or his—but if one day you two end up fighting over this array, I can guarantee, he will never hurt you.”
His voice was low, like an elder lamenting over a wayward younger generation:
“If you can—don’t go for the kill. Spare his life. He’s suffered enough.”
…
Ning Yao agreed to Wuji Flame Sovereign’s request.
To her, this wasn’t even a difficult favor. Not to mention she was happy to help, she also just didn’t like the sound of that Reverse Time Array—she had just become a god! Barely had time to settle in. And now someone was out there trying to rewind time? What if she got flung back to Luoxiang Mountain, staring at a bunch of monkeys all over again?
Where was she supposed to go cry then?
Plus, she’d thought it through—this wasn’t something fists should settle.
The other party wasn’t evil; they seemed like a decent person. He didn’t want to hurt anyone, which meant he probably had a soft heart. He wanted to reverse time—most likely because of some deep regret.
That’s just someone stuck in the past.
He needed healing. A breakthrough. Someone to guide him out of his emotional knot.
I mean, who doesn’t have regrets? Mortal or divine—life’s about moving forward.
Getting stuck in the past just makes you twisted inside.
If nothing else, she’d start by talking it out.
She had been a mountain master for years—talking people out of things was her specialty.
With this plan in mind, Ning Yao turned to Wufu Lai, who was seeing her out:
“Fulai, how did you guys try to stop him before? Just tried to beat him up?”
Wu Fulai gave her a look. “Of course not. The Mountain God—”
Privately, she still preferred to call him “Mountain God.” It felt more respectful.
“He’s gentle and quiet by nature. Before he went mad, everyone in the divine realm liked him. Even after he recovered, he just became silent. His nature didn’t change a bit. You can’t just start hitting someone like that. Obviously, we had to move him with emotion, reason with him, and try to reform him with love.”
Ning Yao blinked. “The idea’s okay, but your wording makes it sound gross.”
Wu Fulai asked, “Do you want to hear it or not?”
Ning Yao let it go. “So? Did your love work? Any progress at all?”
“None.”
“Maybe you guys were loving him the wrong way? ”
Wu Fulai put her hands on her hips. “He jumped into the Scorched Sea without even flinching, and you think our love—which was just a bunch of lectures—could compare? ”
Ning Yao said, “I suspect you all missed the core issue.”
Wu Fulai asked humbly, “And the core is…?”
“I’ll have to meet him first to analyze.”
Unbelievable—Wu Fulai threw her hands up. “Alright, Yao Yao, if you can seriously talk the Mountain God out of opening the Reverse Time Array just with words, I’ll acknowledge you as… my godmother!”
Ning Yao leapt up. “I don’t want that! ”
“Then what do you want? ”
She thought about it. “If I succeed, you have to grant me a favor. I don’t know what yet, but I’ll cash it in later.”
“Deal.”
Wu Fulai agreed immediately. “You’re new here and don’t know the Mountain God well—I won’t bully you. It’s a one-sided bet. If you lose, I ask for nothing.”
A more honorable person might refuse such terms, but Ning Yao didn’t care.
“Deal. You’re such a kind god, Fulai.”
Wu Fulai gave a huff.
Ning Yao patted her. “You’ve known the Mountain God longer than I have—tell me more about him. The more I know, the more prepared I’ll be when we meet.”
Wu Fulai said, “I knew the original Mountain God. After he went mad. I do not know much anymore.”
Ning Yao nodded with mock understanding. “So you look down on people with mental illness.”
Wu Fulai stood up and yelled. “I do not! After that, he became a loner. No one knows what he went through. He’s not the talkative type—he never tells anyone anything about himself.”
“Probably only Flame Lord Wuji knows the full story, and even he won’t say anything.”
Ning Yao nodded. “Alright, I’ll figure it out myself. Oh right—is the Underworld God easy to get along with? ”
Wu Fulai replied, “You’ll get along just fine. He won’t say a word.”
…
Say no more. This divine realm wasn’t nearly as elegant and lofty as she imagined.
Sometimes, in a daze, she still felt like she hadn’t left Luoxiang Mountain.
Ning Yao said, “I’ll go greet him now. He’s in the River of Passage… how do I get there? ”
Wu Fulai explained, “The divine realm is split into upper and lower parts. The upper realm lies beyond the Celestial River. The lower realm is also part of the divine world, but to distinguish it, we call it the River of Passage. On the River of Passage, there’s a single leaf-shaped boat—that’s the Underworld God’s dwelling.”
She pointed into the distance. “The two realms are connected. Just keep going straight down, and you’ll reach it. I’ll take you.”
Ning Yao looked at the long, distant path ahead. The end was tinged with yellow, as if filled with wind and dust. “I can find it. Look far; there’s no need to send me off.”
Wu Fulai wasn’t as polite as before and grinned cheekily. “Ha, I was just saying that.”
“…” Ning Yao said, “If my eldest sister and the others wake up, tell them not to worry.”
“Don’t worry about that. I’ll take good care of them.”
That settled things. Just as she was about to say goodbye, Ning Yao suddenly asked, “Fulai, is there a… Hmm… branch of gods in the Divine Realm called the Heartless Gods? ”
Wu Fulai replied, “More than just one branch—there are plenty. Gods, you know, are all about fairness and selflessness. Some can manage it; some can’t. So, many of them, during cultivation, end up erasing their own hearts—transforming personal love into universal love.”
Ning Yao: “Oh…”
“What is it? ” he asked.
Ning Yao hesitated. “I wanted to ask you about a goddess, just…”
Wu Fulai patted his chest. “Go ahead and ask. I’m the steward god. I know all the gods.”
Ning Yao blinked but suddenly lost interest.
So many years had passed. If she still cared, he would’ve come to see her by now.
And here she was, still clinging and trying to ask around—how annoying.
Besides, she’d already transformed her love. She had no place to insert herself anymore.
Ning Yao smiled faintly and waved her hand. “Forget it; it’s not important. You stay here—I’m off.”
Wu Fulai chuckled and threw an arm around her shoulder. “You’re new here. How could I not send you off? The road’s long—no fun to walk alone.”

Ning Yao didn’t really love Jingzhou. She just used him. Too bad for him suffering for a thousand years in guilt for killing her when that was really her goal in the first place.
