- Chapter 23.1 - I Have Fallen into the Abyss, I am Not Worthy of Mentioning.
Cui Baogui’s curious heart felt like it was being scratched. He peeked through the gap in the window quietly.
Wow—what a beautiful girl!
He couldn’t stop praising her. “The Goddess of Fortune looks really pretty. She seems so kind too. Just one look and you can tell she’s the type of girl with a good heart.”
She must have come here because of his endless crying and complaining. The Flame Lord probably took pity on him and finally sent someone nice to save him.
So, if she came here, she probably knew about his suffering, and she must have at least heard something about the Mountain God too.
Perfect! The Mountain God was here too. Maybe the Goddess of Fortune could help talk to him, help him feel better?
Cui Baogui turned around—but the cabin was already empty.
The person had come quietly and left just as silently.
On the table, there was only a piece of paper. A crescent-shaped jade lay on top of it, gently lifting in the night breeze.
The note said,
“Please help me send my congratulations. A new god is something to celebrate. As for me, I’ve fallen into the abyss, and I am now ugly and unworthy of being mentioned.
—Zhuobi.”
Cui Baogui picked up the jade on the table. It was over a foot long, shaped like a crescent moon, glowing softly and warmly.
His eyes and mouth slowly turned round in surprise. “Whoa… still so generous. He actually gave away the Heaven-Earth Wheel! That means… he’s probably not going to the new god’s ceremony.”
He stared at the Heaven-Earth Wheel, talking to himself, “Every time he gives a gift to a junior, it’s always some high-level protective treasure. All day long, he just reminds others to take care of themselves. Why didn’t I… why didn’t I ascend right after him…”
While he muttered to himself, a voice came from the outer deck, getting closer:
“Underworld God—are you so happy that you’ve gone silly?”
Well, yeah, he was really that happy. Still dawdling around, Cui Baogui quickly stuffed the item into his robe and rushed outside.

Meanwhile, Ning Yao took this first meeting with the Underworld God very seriously.
Master Jie had once told her, When you go to a new place, the first three people you meet are very special. It means fate brought you together, so you should treasure them.
Wu Fulai was the first. The Flame Lord was the second. Now, this Underworld God had just made it into the top three.
She was full of hope as she saw someone run out of the brightly lit cabin. He had a tall figure and wore bright, light-green clothes. The collar was a little too open, showing smooth and fair skin.
His hair was tied up, but lazily, a bit messy—but still good-looking. But then… his eyes? One was big, and the other was small?
What a pity. He could have looked quite handsome otherwise.
Master Jie had always taught her to be kind. If someone was born looking less than perfect, they were probably already sad about it—so you must never make fun of them.
So Ning Yao didn’t say anything.
But Wu Fulai couldn’t hold back and said, “Cui Baogui, I swear, you’re so weirdly beautiful. I understand you less and less.”
Her tone was way too sarcastic. Ning Yao secretly poked her and said seriously, “Fu Lai, don’t hurt him.”
Cui Baogui was confused. The way the two girls talked back and forth actually made him feel worse.
“Wait, do I really look that bad? Goddess of Fortune, be honest with me. Do I look ugly?”
Ning Yao said, “No, you don’t.”
Cui Baogui smiled.
Oh dear—when he smiled, it was even harder to look at. Wu Fulai couldn’t handle it.
“Yao Yao, you’re too kind… Anyway, I’ll leave you two to chat. I’ve got a ton of stuff to deal with upstairs.”
Ning Yao nodded. “Okay, see you later.”
Wu Fulai turned to Cui Baogui and reminded him, “The Goddess of Fortune is here to help you. Don’t be rude, or I’ll report you to the Flame Lord!”
Cui Baogui muttered, “Got it, you tattletale.”
He quickly asked, “Are you sure you don’t want to stay for a meal? ”
Wu Fulai replied, “No appetite.”
Cui Baogui frowned. “Why not? ”
“Loss of appetite.”
What? Loss of appetite? Cui Baogui called after her as she walked away, “You should go see the God of Healing then! Try to eat something! Don’t go starving yourself! ”
Wu Fulai left quickly and was soon out of sight. Cui Baogui turned back to Ning Yao and smiled sincerely.
“Goddess of Fortune, please come inside.”
This giant ship looked huge from the outside, but inside, it felt even bigger, like a world of its own.
As he showed Ning Yao around, Cui Baogui explained,
“Here at the Crossing of the River of the Dead, we mainly handle the Six Realms of Reincarnation. It sounds complicated—and it is.”
Ning Yao: “……”
“In simple terms, it’s all about balance. The balance of reincarnation. Every soul needs balance. For example, if someone suffers in this life—cold, hunger, endless hardship—then in the next life, they should get a better fate. Maybe not riches, but at least a life without worry.”
“But that’s just the easiest case. We have to consider each lifetime, the blessings they earned, the wrongs they did… It takes careful judgment. If we mess up the order, it’ll be chaos—and once that happens, there’s no fixing it.”
He laughed. “But I bet you already know that. You’re in charge of fortune and fate too. Same idea, right?”
For someone with uneven eyes to care so much about balance… Ning Yao found it very admirable.
“You’re right, Underworld God.”
Cui Baogui waved his hand. “Please, sit! With you here, I feel way more at ease. Thank you so much, Goddess of Fortune.”
“You’re too polite, Underworld God.”
He sat across from her and pointed to the table. “Take whatever you like. Help yourself.”
Ning Yao didn’t take any food. Instead, she finally said what was on her mind:
“We’ll be working together more in the future, right? Let’s drop the formal titles. I’m Ning Yao.”
Cui Baogui slapped the table. “See? I knew we’d get along! I hate those stuffy rules. Once we become gods, people stop calling us by our names. Just the titles.”
He reached out his hand. “Cui Baogui.”
Ning Yao shook his hand lightly. “I didn’t know there was such a rule. Sorry if I was being rude.”
“Nah, it’s not official. It just happens. After thousands of years, people forget their names—even their own.”
He straightened up, excited. “Let me tell you, I love people who still use names. You’re my second friend—after Fu Lai!”
Ning Yao smiled. “Then, friend, can I ask a question?”
“Anything you want, friend.”
“Who was that person who left your cabin earlier? His spiritual power was incredibly strong.”
Cui Baogui raised an eyebrow. “You saw him? ”

Ning Yao didn’t really love Jingzhou. She just used him. Too bad for him suffering for a thousand years in guilt for killing her when that was really her goal in the first place.
