- Chapter 4.1 - "Feng Jingzhuo is Inherently Cold and Ruthless"
Ning Tang quietly descended the mountain during the second night’s midnight hour. Because she was carrying her unconscious husband and needed to remain hidden, Ning Yao made sure no one on the mountain knew of their departure. She sent her sister alone while taking a detour to the Fengxie Dao Sect.
“Yao Yao, just leave me here. When I reach the extreme northern lands, I’ll find a way to send you word that I’m safe,” Ning Tang said as she stopped and held Ning Yao’s hand. They left the back lake of Zhanxue Lake and took a remote path away from Xujing River.
Ning Yao clung to her elder sister’s hand, unwilling to let go. “Elder sister, if you think life will be tough, just come back. Forget about my brother-in-law.”
Ning Tang smiled, “Such childlike words, you go against our Bodhi nature. After all, he’s a human life, he is not yet dead. How could we just watch him die? Don’t worry, I will do everything within my power. If I can save him, we’ll go on living as we are. If not, we’ll find another way. We’ll share the responsibility of ascension together.”
Ning Yao threw herself into her sister’s arms, lovingly nuzzling her.
Ning Tang giggled and bent down, patting her back. “Alright now, you’re all grown up and still acting like a child, isn’t it embarrassing?”
“But don’t you have other matters to take care of? Since it’s a dark and windy night, go quickly. Once I leave, I won’t be able to help you much, so I’ve left you three silk pouches in the room. If you really can’t handle it, open one.”
Later that night…
Ning Yao silently entered Murong Lian’s manor, just as the night reached its darkest hour.
Rumor had it that the Fengxie Dao Sect was splendid and wealthy, and that turned out to be true. The place was gilded with gold and jewels, and magnificent palaces glimmered in the distance. Even the lanterns in the corridors were covered in gold foil, worth a fortune.
Ning Yao hid in the shadows and watched for a while, swallowing lightly.
There was so much wealth.
One day, when she becomes successful, she’ll take her whole clan away from the impoverished Luoxiang Mountain and find a place as grand and comfortable as this, with each person having their own palace to live comfortably. Only then would she feel she had fulfilled her duty as the mountain master.
But for now… Ning Yao had to keep her feet on the ground. She took out a piece of Feng Jingzhuo’s dragon scale from her robes and began sensing the spiritual connection.
Following the faint spiritual thread, Ning Yao avoided the patrolling disciples and crept toward the central palace. She moved lightly, her steps swift and silent, floating through the air as if a flower petal drifting on the wind.
She landed on the roof of a palace and continue to scan the surroundings. This was the innermost palace, and it was huge. If Feng Jingzhuo’s dragon scale was here, could there be some kind of treasure vault?
She bent over, and with a gentle sweep of her hands, the small piece of blue tile before her gradually became transparent, revealing the interior clearly.
Ning Yao peered inside and immediately straightened up in shock.
What… what is this?
She couldn’t see clearly… Let me look again.
With a prepared mind, she peeked again. Now she could see it clearly: In the center of the palace was an extravagant round bed. It was so large that it looked empty, and two figures were tangled together on it. The woman had a slightly plump figure, her face showing some looseness, thick makeup covering her skin. The man was beneath her, with most of his body hidden, and his face was not visible.
Ning Yao straightened up again, rubbing her face, especially her eyes.
This was actually the Lady Lian’s bedroom. Wow, even the bedroom is this grand.
But right now, she was still in the bedroom, busy cultivating. She needed to find a way to make the woman leave so she could sneak in and retrieve the dragon scale without causing a stir.
Ning Yao’s eyes shifted, and with a slight motion, she conjured two small flowers from her fingers. The flowers extended and spread. She examined them carefully and then waved her hand gently in front of the transparent blue tile.
In an instant, tendrils and vines of flowers stretched from the cracks of the golden nanmu bed, emitting a faint fragrance. Soon, a buzzing sound grew louder as a swarm of insects and ants flooded into the room.
“Ah—what’s happening?!” Lady Lianzhen shrieked, hastily standing up to shield her face. “Help! Someone, quickly come and get rid of these poisonous insects!”
A few red bumps had already appeared on her hands from the insect bites. Without thinking, she scrambled and ran out of the room.
Ning Yao had already observed the guard situation here. She had at most half a tea-time before the woman returned, but that was enough. As soon as Lady Lianzhen fled in a panic, Ning Yao quickly entered the room, holding the dragon scale and scanning the surroundings.
Luckily, it wasn’t hard to find. Across from Lady Lian’s bed was a luxurious vanity, with dozens of drawers filled with beauty products. Following her spiritual sense, Ning Yao opened one of the drawers and retrieved the dragon scale, counting thirteen pieces—just the right amount.
She was about to leave when she turned and saw the man on the bed glaring at her.

Ning Yao didn’t really love Jingzhou. She just used him. Too bad for him suffering for a thousand years in guilt for killing her when that was really her goal in the first place.
