- Chapter 4.3 - "Feng Jingzhuo is Inherently Cold and Ruthless"
She opened the door and went in. Feng Jingzhuo was indeed in the corner. She walked towards him. “Why aren’t you lying on the bed? The floor is cold.”
Feng Jingzhuo looked at her, pressed his lips together, and then said, “I’m covered in bl00d. I’ll dirty the bedding.”
Ning Yao looked over and saw a large patch of fresh bl00d on the bed. She had been careless. She turned and raised her voice. “Ning Yuzhu! Come in and change the bedding!”
Ning Yuzhu cursed and walked in. “Ning Yao, don’t you have hands? Why do you always make me do everything? You’re already a big girl, is this proper?!”
Feng Jingzhuo stiffened. “I didn’t mean that…”
Ning Yao bent down, took his wrist, and draped it over her shoulder, helping him up. “It’s fine now. It’s clean. Go lie down.”
His body was stiff, most likely because of pain. Ning Yao carefully settled him. “You’re seriously injured. Lie down properly. Don’t worry about whether you’re dirtying the bedding. If it gets dirty, we will just wash it. If you feel really bad about it, leave it for me. When you’re better, you can wash it yourself.”
Ning Yuzhu hadn’t left and was leaning against the doorframe. “You have no sense of boundaries.”
Ning Yao said, “Go away.”
Ning Yuzhu left.
Ning Yao turned around and saw Feng Jingzhuo looking at her. When their eyes met, he lowered his head.
Ning Yao smiled at him and took out the thirteen dragon scales. “Now your dragon scales are complete. We can start the repair.”
Feng Jingzhuo looked at the scales in her hand, his gaze deepening.
They were his dragon scales.
What kind of person was Lady Lianzhen? How could she willingly hand them over? Moreover, Ning Yao was so beautiful; upon meeting her, Lady Zhen would only feel jealousy. How could she grant her request? How did Ning Yao obtained them?
He couldn’t understand her intentions and felt exhausted. “It seems that Ning Mountain Lord’s trip to the Fengxie Dao Sect was quite enjoyable.”
Ning Yao paused, then suddenly became excited. “Yes, the Fengxie Dao Sect is so rich! The lanterns in their corridors are made of gold!”
Feng Jingzhuo: “…What?”
Ning Yao sighed. “This trip was truly worthwhile.”
Feng Jingzhuo fell silent for a moment. “Ning Mountain Lord… if I may be so bold, how did you come by these thirteen dragon scales from the Feng Xie Dao Sect?”
Ning Yao said, “I stole them… oh, no, I took them.”
Feng Jingzhuo stared at her, stunned.
Ning Yao noticed his strange look and smiled. “You didn’t think I was really going to go to Lianzhen and ask for them, did you? That’s impossible!” She smiled proudly, showing a pair of dimples. “I bet she wouldn’t give them to me. She’d just try to make me feel like she had me cornered. We’d end up bickering for hours and wasting time. It’s much quicker and more stable to just steal them.”
She corrected herself again. “No, I took them.”
Feng Jingzhuo was speechless. His gaze lowered to the dragon scales in her hand. He remained silent for a long time. “Ning Mountain Lord, in this case, you’ve made a great enemy of Lady Zhen.”
Ning Yao felt the need to explain to him. She grabbed a small stool, placed it by the bed, sat down steadily, and hugged her knees, looking up at him. “Feng Jingzhuo, how could you think like that?”
Feng Jingzhuo looked at her clear black-and-white eyes.
She said, “I must have already formed a feud with Lady Lian Zhen. She cares so much about you, waiting for your return. But when Xuan Yue Sect didn’t send you and the dragon scales back for a long time, she must have started asking questions. As for the Xuan Yue Sect, they can’t deliver the person, and they don’t want to lose their face, so they’ll push the responsibility onto me. They’ll say I’m hell-bent on forcing them to take you, obliging them to bow down.”
“So, since I can’t stop the Xuan Yue Sect’s mouth, the grudge is inevitable. Why would I care about causing a small rift over these thirteen dragon scales?”
She spoke, and Feng Jingzhuo simply watched her. She was so beautiful, with a cleanliness in her brows and eyes that he had never seen before. The light of the world seemed to focus entirely on her, exuding a spiritual energy.
He spoke slowly, “Because of me, you’ve made such a formidable enemy. Was it really necessary?”
Ning Yao said, “What’s so formidable about her?”
Feng Jingzhuo fell silent for a moment, then asked, “Mountain Lord, do you really think Lady Lianzhen cares about me?”
Ning Yao smiled. “If she didn’t care, would she have kept you alive and stored your scales so carefully in a makeup box?”
Feng Jingzhuo lowered his eyes, and a long-forgotten sense of embarrassment washed over him.
Never mind.
At this point, no matter what new trick the girl wanted to play, he couldn’t probe it any further. Let her be. What he had gained so far had already far exceeded what his body could give.
A frail, defeated body—there was nothing left to protect. Whatever she wanted, let her take it.
“Ning Mountain Lord, you don’t need to be kind to me. If there’s anything on me that you desire, feel free to take it. I know the Mountain Lord is strong, and Lady Lianzhen is no match, but her methods are insidious. You’ve attracted a mad dog by getting involved with someone like me, and it’s really not worth it.”
Ning Yao had always been surrounded by reckless and carefree people, so she had never met someone so fragile, nor had she heard such self-deprecating words. It left her uncertain. She hesitated before standing up and gently patting his head. “You’re thinking too much. This is no big deal. The moment I heard of Lady Lian Zhen, I knew she needed to be taught a lesson. But I couldn’t just show up for no reason—it would look like there’s something wrong with me. Now it’s fine. I’ve finally found an excuse to beat her. A feud’s a feud. Who’s afraid of her?”
Feng Jingzhuo shrank his neck slightly and no longer looking at her, his head lowered.
Ning Yao bent down and tilted her head to look at him. “Are you ready? I’m going to help you repair your scales now. Is that okay?”
After a long pause, he spoke softly. “Okay.”
