- Chapter 7.2 - Boarding the Pirate Ship at Mount Luoxiang
Feng Jingzhuo’s long eyelashes fluttered, and he slowly looked up. His eyes, bright and clear, had finally shown some emotion since they first met.
Ning Yao couldn’t really identify what that emotion was, but her tone unconsciously softened: “From the moment I brought you home, I never thought about sending you back. Now that I know what you fear, I won’t be cruel enough to push you back into the fire.”
Feng Jingzhuo opened his mouth several times and finally said with difficulty: “Can I stay here on Luoxiang Mountain, stay… like this forever?”
Ning Yao nodded firmly.
He changed his words to confirm: “Forever… stay?”
Ning Yao said: “Yes. If you trust me enough to be willing to die in my hands, then can you trust me a little more, to live by my side?”
Feng Jingzhuo clenched his hands tightly, and the sunset light reflected in his eyes, showing a mixture of hope and despair.
“Mountain Master Ning, meeting you and being able to ask for death is the best thing I’ve ever hoped for.” In other places, death was something greedy that people sought.
From his childhood until now, he had been in a dark prison, tortured and hurt. Now, stepping onto Luoxiang Mountain, the unfamiliar feeling didn’t come from the land itself but the strange new emotions it stirred. He had almost forgotten it and quickly reminded himself: Don’t be fooled. Don’t be naive.
He lowered his head, his voice barely a whisper: “To stay here, in such a good place… I didn’t even dare to think about it.”
Ning Yao said: “Feng Jingzhuo, look at me.”
He obediently raised his head and met her clear eyes.
“Since I was born, it’s been thousands of years…” Ning Yao started, pausing slightly. Just when Feng Jingzhuo thought she was about to give him some grand wisdom, she continued, “You’re the first person I’ve ever met who loves this broken place of Luoxiang Mountain so much. We have nothing, and even we’re tired of it, but you still like it… Really, I’m so moved I don’t even know what to say…”
Feng Jingzhuo: “…”
Ning Yao took a moment to calm her emotions: “Anyway, I’ll say it clearly: I will never drive you away, and I won’t let anyone take you away. I know you don’t want that. I want you to live.”
Living is so good. You live once, and you still have a chance to ascend, and even after ascension, you forget everything and start anew as a happy god. Your ancestors loved you so much. With that kind of love from your ancestors, you should live.
After a long time, Feng Jingzhuo softly asked, “Master Ning, what price must I pay?”
“Ah?”
He said, “Such a thing doesn’t just fall on me for no reason.”
Ning Yao understood and smiled: “Oh, this is easy. You can start by eating a chicken leg.”
Feng Jingzhuo suddenly realized he was still holding the chicken leg in his hand. His thoughts came back to him, and the fragrance of the chicken filled his senses.
He was confused and looked carefully at Ning Yao.
Ning Yao smiled gently, resting her head on one hand: “Eat it. Once you finish, I’ll tell you.”
Feng Jingzhuo looked down and slowly took a bite; his eyes were gleaming as he swallowed the food.
Ning Yao reminded him at the right moment: “You didn’t finish it.”
She tilted her chin at him. He obediently took a few more bites and then put the chicken leg down.
Ning Yao said, “That’s it. You’re in trouble now. After eating our Luoxiang Mountain chicken, it’s not so easy to repay. You’ll have to stay and work as a laborer. You won’t be allowed to leave for at least eight thousand years. And no slacking off! If you slack off even once, you’ll get an extra five hundred years of punishment.”
Feng Jingzhuo’s eyes widened: “…Really?”
Ning Yao sighed and announced, “Scary, right? You’ve been tricked. You’ve boarded the pirate ship.”
Feng Jingzhuo smiled.
This was the first time Ning Yao saw his real, joyful smile. Even with the scar on his face, his strong bone structure made his smile unexpectedly charming.
“Don’t lie to me,” he kept repeating. “Please don’t lie to me.”
Ning Yao laughed: “You’re really hopeless. You’ve met a ruthless boss, and for just one chicken leg, you’ve sold yourself. From now on, you’ll work day and night without pay, and you can’t run away. What a trap.”
If anyone was foolish, it was Feng Jingzhuo. He cautiously confirmed, “So it’s settled? It won’t change, right? ”
Ning Yao smiled and stretched out her hand, with her fingers together, leaving only her pinky out. Feng Jingzhuo looked at her and slowly extended his hand in the same way.
His large hand met her small, delicate one, and their fingers locked together. Guided by Ning Yao, their thumbs touched each other.
She said: “I will treat you very well, and I will never change until the day I die.”

Ning Yao didn’t really love Jingzhou. She just used him. Too bad for him suffering for a thousand years in guilt for killing her when that was really her goal in the first place.
