- Chapter 2 - Flirting with Others Right in Front of Her
“It’s said that the fallen heiress of the Chi family, Chi Yi, chased after Wen Ranqing for more than ten years. After finally winning her over, Wen Ranqing now, despite having such an outstanding Alpha, simply refuses her…”
As soon as Wen Ranqing entered the room, she was immediately surrounded by a crowd. Chi Yi, however, automatically tuned out the same tiresome gossip she had heard countless times.
Still, the young man wasn’t wrong about one thing — Wen Ranqing’s pheromones carried the scent of wild roses.
Roses thrive in light, withstand the cold, and demand little from their environment. They are inherently dangerous and resilient.
Yet Wen Ranqing seemed different.
This Omega was exceptionally pale, exuding a cold, aloof fragility. Even in the early spring, dangling from the branches like an early bloom, she seemed ready to tremble at the slightest chill of the breeze.
She evoked a strong urge to pluck her down and shelter her tenderly in one’s arms.
But no one dared to touch Wen Ranqing. To call her a flower on a high cliff would not be an exaggeration. Unfortunately, roses have thorns, and no one knew whether hers were laced with poison.
The press conference hadn’t officially begun yet. After Wen Ranqing finished greeting the crowd, only one person remained by her side.
Chi Yi recognized her immediately — the stunning Alpha with exquisite makeup was Jian Xi.
Though the guests were dispersed throughout the hall, a subtle gravity still centered around the two women. The contrast was especially stark on Chi Yi’s side, where isolation was evident.
Chi Yi finished her drink in one gulp, her expression unchanged, quietly listening to the gossip flowing around her.
An older man, seeing today’s undeniable star, paused briefly before skipping many of the usual details.
“…Four years ago, after a fire broke out at the Wen estate, Chi Yi rescued her. Not long after, they got married.”
The younger man leaned in curiously. “But where is she now?”
“Hey, isn’t that President Jian from Jingke Mining? Why is she with Wen Ranqing…?”
“Ahem.”
The young man’s eyes widened. “You mean—?”
“Come on, who would believe there’s nothing going on between them? And look over there — President Gao, President Li — the pleasures of the wealthy are beyond our imagination.”
Chi Yi’s gaze had been lingering on Jian Xi. Wen Ranqing was leaning in to whisper with Jian, and most of the laughter seemed to be Jian’s.
With elegant fingers, Jian Xi took the glass from Wen Ranqing’s hand — whether it had been touched or not was unclear — and casually sipped from it, leaving a vivid red lipstick mark on the rim.
The woman’s fox-like eyes lingered on Wen Ranqing’s delicate figure as if admiring a masterpiece, then swept nonchalantly over to Chi Yi. When Wen Ranqing followed her glance, the teasing expression on Jian Xi’s face became unmistakable.
Chi Yi didn’t even need to read lips to catch the word mouthed by Jian’s bright red lips —
“Good puppy.”
Her nails pressed into her palm sharply. Chi Yi couldn’t clearly make out Wen Ranqing’s exact expression.
Wen Ranqing rarely smiled. That face, which Chi Yi had yearned for so long, gave nothing away — no obvious contempt, no approval either, but perhaps a silent acceptance.
The situation developed differently from what Chi Yi had expected.
The moment Wen Ranqing spotted Chi Yi, she seemed as if she wanted to move toward her — but Jian Xi caught her arm first and continued speaking intimately.
Whispering, standing close — a kind of closeness Chi Yi had never experienced, not even when they had been together.
Outsiders always said that Chi Yi and Wen Ranqing were destined lovers, that Chi Yi had pursued Wen for years, and that, with both being S-rank spiritual power holders, their union was nothing short of heavenly.
Aside from occasional unsavory gossip about Wen Ranqing’s post-marriage escapades, they were considered the perfect couple.
A high-level Omega, blessed with beauty, power, and connections — even a playful nature could be tolerated by the public. After all, whenever they appeared together, they looked so in love.
Yet no one knew that all of it was maintained by nothing more than a thin, fragile marriage contract.
Chi Yi didn’t even have the right to flirt publicly with Wen Ranqing, as Jian Xi now did.
Before Chi Yi’s gaze could land on President Gao or President Li, Wen Ranqing called out to her first.
“Xiao Yi.”
Despite the bustling noise of the hall, Chi Yi could read her lips clearly. Wen Ranqing had always called her that — a tone that sounded almost… familial.
“…With Wen Ranqing’s beauty, her figure, her wealth, her connections — she can have anything she wants…”
The older man had been speaking so animatedly, but now, seeing a tall figure in white walk past — someone who looked familiar yet carried an intimidating aura — he immediately fell silent.
The unmistakable pressure of a top-tier Alpha was not something one could mistake.
Considering the omnipresent flash of cameras at the venue, Chi Yi had no interest in causing a scene. She casually called over the floor manager and had the two loudmouths “escorted” out.
“Xiao Yi.”
“Hmm.”
Chi Yi did not look at Wen Ranqing. The unfamiliar emotions flickering in her somewhat weary eyes made her deeply uncomfortable. Instead, she turned her gaze directly toward Jian Xi.
“Good evening, President Jian.”
“Long time no see, Xiao Yi.”
Every time Jian Xi and Chi Yi met, it was always on important occasions like this, always right under Wen Ranqing’s watchful gaze.
Because of that, Jian Xi’s impression of Chi Yi had always been the same — quiet, non-confrontational, almost too docile for an Alpha.
She had always regarded Chi Yi as nothing more than her business partner’s little pet.
“Long time no see. President Jian, you’re as charming as ever,” Chi Yi said coolly.
“The young lady of the Xiao family seemed to run out just now, eyes all red,” Jian Xi remarked casually.
Unlike before, today Chi Yi emanated a sudden, tangible pressure belonging to an S-rank Alpha. Her words no longer retreated politely but pushed back with thinly veiled sarcasm — just shy of accusing Jian Xi of seducing everyone around her.
Chi Yi’s deep black eyes narrowed slightly. After speaking, her gaze lingered on Jian Xi’s hand, which rested lightly on Wen Ranqing’s exposed forearm — a silent warning radiating from her.
Jian Xi paused for a moment, then leisurely withdrew her hand. Her red lips curved into a smile as she leaned toward Wen Ranqing, from Chi Yi’s angle almost seeming to whisper right into her ear.
“Even a pampered little dog will bite,” she murmured.
Wen Ranqing’s dark lashes lowered slightly. She remained unmoved, setting down her wine glass with aristocratic grace, looking as breathtaking as a portrait.
At that moment, someone came over to invite her onto the stage.
Chi Yi still hadn’t seen any real reaction from Wen Ranqing — no rebuke for Jian Xi’s disrespect, no surprise at Chi Yi’s subtle hostility.
Before leaving, Wen Ranqing spoke softly:
“Be good. Wait for me.”
She handed Chi Yi a handkerchief before turning away.
Even without consciously releasing her spiritual energy, Chi Yi’s surroundings seemed shrouded in a low, oppressive pressure. The guests who had been gathered nearby gradually dispersed under its weight. A few, recognizing her identity, dared to approach — some to seek collaboration, others to make sly remarks — but Chi Yi ignored them all.
She folded the plain white handkerchief carefully into her pocket and casually used a scrap of paper to wipe the wine stains from her fingers, her joints slender and well-defined.
Jian Xi found it amusing. Ignoring the slight discomfort, she leisurely sauntered over.
“Tsk. What a pity,” Jian Xi said, her heated gaze openly trailing over the spot Chi Yi had just touched, the meaning in her eyes clear.
Chi Yi responded sharply, “What’s wrong, President Jian? Special preferences?”
“Or is it that your tastes are… rather broad?”
Although the tips of Chi Yi’s ears betrayed a slight flush, her aura remained fierce and unyielding. Jian Xi merely chuckled and shook her head, saying nothing more.
Wen Ranqing, the impeccable president, and her little wife, suddenly baring her teeth —
how amusing.
Meanwhile, the staff adjusted Wen Ranqing’s microphone, and the spotlight centered on her. In a deep-blue, plunging V-neck gown, she gracefully exited the hall, moving toward the direction where a final brief argument had taken place.
After a brief opening speech, Wen Ranqing seamlessly transitioned into introducing the Wen Corporation’s core projects and development plans for the coming year, her demeanor calm and self-assured.
Standing amidst the crowd, Chi Yi watched her from afar.
Wen Ranqing wore only the lightest makeup, her features vivid and striking. Though her white evening dress was similar in color but different in design to Chi Yi’s, it exuded an entirely different kind of elegance — understated, yet dazzling.
From head to toe, every inch of her seemed to proclaim that Wen Ranqing was a wild rose growing high above in a sky garden — alluring, yet untouchable.
As Wen Ranqing explained Wen Corporation’s upcoming expansion into mountainous regions, she also spoke about the new wave of global industrial reform: the deep integration of artificial intelligence, 5G technology, and the transportation industry. Wen Corporation’s future focus would lean heavily toward smart transportation systems.
Not only did they plan to tackle the challenge of building the “last mile” infrastructure in difficult terrains, but Wen Corporation’s ambitions extended even further — aiming for full vehicle-to-road collaboration, where the Internet of Things would use personal identity as a core interface, allowing big data to permeate every facet of daily life.
“…Wen Corporation will use the next fifteen years as a planning phase, fully responding to the national call, breaking through information barriers, and promoting co-construction and shared development. By the middle of this century, we aim to continuously empower the building of a strong nation.”
Wen Corporation was, after all, just a single enterprise, yet Wen Ranqing’s voice — calm yet sharp — pierced through the air. Thinking of the high-profile figures she was rumored to be close with in the tabloids, the audience stirred in astonishment.
The media were more than eager for such a turn of events. Even before the official agenda concluded, some reporters couldn’t help but surge forward to ask questions. They weren’t afraid of Wen Ranqing’s icy stares or her sharp tongue; on the contrary, the higher she stood, the more they delighted in watching.
Under the relentless flash of cameras, Wen Ranqing stood poised and confident. Shielded by the throng of people, Chi Yi allowed herself a fleeting moment of longing to slip through her gaze — only to meet Wen Ranqing’s peach blossom eyes, devoid of any warmth.
Startled, Chi Yi quickly averted her eyes, a trace of confusion flickering in her heart.
Around her, others were murmuring, all whispering about the same thing.
The transportation industry was an old, established sector. Wen Corporation’s sudden ambition to break into smart transportation had never leaked before — and attracting top talent for such a venture was no easy feat.
As the promotional video on the projection screen drew to an end, Wen Ranqing adjusted the microphone slightly, gathering all attention back to herself.
“In addition,” she said smoothly, “Wen Corporation will undergo an internal restructuring. A portion of my shares and some internal operations will be transferred. I look forward to working with all of you. Thank you.”
This additional, seemingly casual statement was undoubtedly the real reason the press conference had been delayed — and it left the room in stunned silence.
What did this mean?
Was she preparing for a shift in power?
After a brief moment of suffocating tension, the atmosphere quickly reignited as Wen Ranqing stepped down from the stage. The board members in attendance exchanged uneasy glances, their faces clouded with helplessness.
Chi Yi fell into deep thought.
Wen Ranqing had spent so many years tirelessly building up Wen Corporation. Could she really let go so easily?
Chi Yi didn’t believe it.
If anything, this sounded more like Wen Ranqing was tightening her grip on the company in a different way.
Still, something about it didn’t feel quite right.
Wen Ranqing was a woman who wielded authority with ruthless precision — a single stone tossed casually by her could stir a tsunami in Beihang City’s transportation and infrastructure sectors.
Why would she now choose such a risky, roundabout method?
Unable to figure it out, Chi Yi eventually stopped dwelling on it.
As reporters and interviewers were systematically escorted out, the chaotic sounds of shuffling feet and whirring cameras approached — along with a familiar, melodious voice.
A slender, fair hand stretched out before her, the silver glint of a wedding ring catching the light — stunning the already disoriented Alpha into a momentary daze.
Chi Yi lifted her head — and met Wen Ranqing’s eternally cold, exquisite face.
“Xiao Yi,” Wen Ranqing said softly, “dance with me.”
