The White Moonlight of Three Male Leads - Chapter 18
Chapter 18: Feng Chengling
A man who walked like he was in a shopping mall or on a battlefield, now strolled through a lively campus cafeteria filled with the scent of food. The contrast piqued Song Yuyan’s interest—he squinted slightly, intrigued.
The myth was shattered, the illusion threatened by reality. That sense of rupture made his heart flutter even more.
They found a secluded spot to sit.
Not far from them stood a thick pillar, which blocked a lot of the line of sight. But underneath the pillar was a sterilizing cabinet—people could come by at any time to grab spoons and chopsticks.
Someone could walk over at any moment, and though partially concealed, the view wasn’t entirely blocked…
Song Yuyan’s heart beat faster. He didn’t know how what was supposed to be a simple ice pack treatment had taken on a covert, secretive undertone—but he was into it!
Only now did he realize—he liked the thrill, the rush of adrenaline.
Feng Chengling, brows lowered, pressed a plastic bag of ice gently to Song Yuyan’s temple.
Song Yuyan winced instinctively with a light hiss.
Feng Chengling paused for a moment, but didn’t move his hand. Pressing the ice bag down, he said, “It hurts, doesn’t it? Good—it means the ice is doing its job.”
Judging by the way it looked, if he hadn’t iced it, it might swell up and bruise tomorrow. That would hurt more.
From Feng Chengling’s face, Song Yuyan couldn’t tell much. His expression was cold and unreadable, like that of a machine.
Would someone like that help him out of kindness?
Song Yuyan: “Oh no, the three great human delusions are coming back again!”
Still, sometimes between two people—especially when there’s that faint, ambiguous chemistry—there’s a subtle connection.
That kind of feeling is hard to put into words, like a lazy afternoon when an orange is warming in the oven, its sweet, tangy scent slowly filling the entire room.
A little sweet, a little sour, a little unclear—it makes your mouth water, and your heart uncertain.
Sometimes your eyes glow like syrup, sometimes they flicker like you’re unsure.
You want to get close, yet feel like you should stay away.
You want to speak, but don’t know if you should stay silent.
You want to look away, but by the time your gaze wanders, you realize you’ve been staring at each other far too long.
Just like now.
Looking at Feng Chengling’s pale fingers holding the ice bag perfectly still, Song Yuyan stared for a long time before blinking his sore eyes.
Song Yuyan: “I want to fall in love.”
He blinked again, and a soft, barely audible moan escaped his throat.
Feng Chengling’s throat bobbed slightly. Something dark flickered in the depths of his eyes, quickly hidden.
His cool voice dropped down from the clouds, soft and magnetic. “You don’t have to hold it in. If it hurts, just say so.”
“Really?” Song Yuyan asked, uncertain.
Something deep inside Feng Chengling felt strangely full. He nodded, eyes sincere. “It’s okay.”
“Then I’m gonna say it,” Song Yuyan whispered. “I’ve got a lot of flaws—I’m scared of pain, really scared of it. And I’m afraid of a lot of other things too.”
As for what else he was afraid of, Song Yuyan didn’t say. Feng Chengling didn’t pry.
Song Yuyan liked Feng Chengling’s manners and courtesy. That precise, respectful distance made him feel comfortable.
He reined in his scattered thoughts and stared directly at Feng Chengling, eyes unblinking.
His voice was so soft it barely escaped his throat.
Though Feng Chengling said it was okay, he wasn’t really going to cry out in public.
Still, his voice was low and suggestive, like he was suppressing something. The sound alone made Song Yuyan press his lips together occasionally, his eyes flickering with shame.
Song Yuyan: “How could it not be a big deal?”
He could tell Feng Chengling treated him differently. Otherwise, he wouldn’t keep falling into these delusions.
He figured this voice of his would be too much for Feng Chengling, but instead, Feng’s eyes lowered slightly, his face showing an unguarded flash of concern.
Song Yuyan: “Hey System, Feng Chengling is into guys, right?”
System: “Of course! Don’t doubt it, host! Your very existence is the key to helping them walk the path of a big, emotionally-repressed male lead who focuses only on his career.”
Song Yuyan looked thoughtful.
He stared at Feng Chengling, a wild theory forming in his heart—even he thought it was ridiculous.
Love… desire…
For a moment just now, had Feng Chengling’s concern taken over?
Song Yuyan couldn’t figure it out. He didn’t even want to think about it. Sometimes he felt like something was wrong with him—he wanted Feng Chengling to like him, but also didn’t want Feng to like him too much.
Song Yuyan muttered, “I’m losing it.”
Feng Chengling stood up and said, “Go crazy later—the ice is melting. Let’s throw it away first.”
Crazy or not, it could wait?
Song Yuyan huffed but stood up and waited nearby. When Feng came back after tossing the ice, Song greeted him with a smile.
It was like looking up at a sunny sky or down at a field in full bloom.
Feng Chengling paused slightly before walking toward him.
“You seem happy now?” he asked. Otherwise, why would Song Yuyan suddenly smile so brightly?
It felt like the whole world had lit up.
Song Yuyan nodded. “I’m not going crazy anymore. And even if someone is losing it, it won’t be me. I’ve got max luck stats!”
The world had so much to offer. He was already this lucky—he should be grateful and enjoy life more.
Song Yuyan smiled so hard his eyes curved into crescents.
Feng Chengling couldn’t help but look at him a few more times.
Only after a long while did he finally look away.
As they walked out of the cafeteria, Song Yuyan suddenly remembered, “Ah! I forgot my burger and fries!”
“Wait here,” Feng Chengling said, then turned back inside.
Song Yuyan waited outside.
Above, the moon hung high in the night sky. A few stars twinkled nearby, faint but steady. Moonlight spilled across the ground like a gentle river.
He didn’t have to wait long. Feng Chengling soon came out holding a takeout bag.
Under the moonlight, even his hands glowed faintly with a silver sheen—so pale and long, they looked like they could cradle the moon itself.
But right now, those hands were holding a burger bag.
Feng Chengling’s cool voice said, “Let’s find a place to eat. Afterward, I’ll walk with you. If you don’t move around a bit, all the food will sit heavy in your stomach.”
Song Yuyan didn’t want indigestion either, so they went back inside and had their midnight snack—mostly Song Yuyan eating. Feng Chengling only took a few bites, and that was only because Song handed it to him.
Song Yuyan, satisfied and full, grinned and said, “Ling-ge, you paid this time—next time it’s on me!”
Feng Chengling nodded. “Don’t worry, I’ll let you return the favor.”
After leaving the cafeteria, they took a walk around campus. Song Yuyan thought back to when they first met.
Back then, they hadn’t known each other well. Who would’ve thought they’d be out for a walk like this now?
Yes—a walk, not just an excuse for him to pester Feng Chengling.
There was a clear difference.
People passed by occasionally. Most of them were students, but Song Yuyan clearly felt quite a few eyes fall on them.
There were girls sneaking glances, whispering excitedly behind their hands.
Song Yuyan pressed his lips together. He didn’t know what was wrong with him, but the more people stared, the more thrilled he felt. What was this problem?
Even his heart started racing. His face flushed red, eyes sparkling.
He turned to Feng Chengling and asked slowly, “Why do you think they’re all looking at us?”
He tilted his head to look up at Feng Chengling.
Feng had always known Song Yuyan was good-looking. But now, with him looking up with those pure, innocent eyes—it knocked Feng Chengling’s heart off rhythm.
“So unfair,” he muttered.
He never imagined he could like the way someone sounded, then fall for their face too.
And maybe he could like even more than that.
Just the thought made his heart pound wildly.
His voice was too soft—Song Yuyan didn’t catch it. “What did you say?”
Song’s sudden question startled Feng, who had been lost in his own surging emotions. He nearly lost control of his expression.
But thankfully, he didn’t.
Feng Chengling pressed his lips together. “I said—we don’t need to care what others think.”
Of course, he knew exactly what people were staring at. But seeing Song Yuyan still so unaware, he decided it was best not to let him know.
He didn’t want to scare him away.
