- Chapter 16 - The Omega Sister (16)
Three days after Jiang Yushu and Feng Canjiu returned from their trip, the entire Jiang Family fell into a gloomy atmosphere, and the Alphas had been on edge lately.
It wasn’t for any particular reason, just that the family’s little princess hadn’t been in the best mood. Once a lively and cheerful young Omega, she now spent her days silent, her face devoid of expression.
They had tried asking Jiang Yushu what was wrong, but she stubbornly refused to say a word.
Gradually, they stopped asking. But because of her foul mood, Jiang Zhen’s own temper soured, making him glare at his sons with increasing displeasure each day.
If they can’t even cheer up their unhappy sister, what use are these sons?
On a weekend morning, the family gathered for breakfast as usual, the Alphas cautiously watching Jiang Yushu’s expression.
Jiang Zhen, as the family’s sole elder and a man experienced in matters of the heart, combined his knowledge of Jiang Yushu’s past with Feng Canjiu to form a straightforward conclusion about his beloved daughter’s state.
Jiang Zhen glanced at Jiang Hengyuan’s empty seat beside him. He had already sent his eldest son to investigate what exactly had happened, suspecting Feng Canjiu was involved.
Three days had passed, and still no news from his eldest son. Jiang Zhen had even issued an ultimatum: if he couldn’t find out the truth, Jiang Hengyuan needn’t bother returning home.
Ding-dong! The foyer doorbell rang. Jiang Hengshu sprang to his feet, ready to answer the door.
At this hour every day, the doorbell would ring, and opening the door would reveal gifts sent by Feng Canjiu.
“Don’t,” Jiang Yushu finally spoke after a long silence, her expression cold as she stared at the unopened foyer door.
It had been a full week since their trip with Feng Canjiu ended, and Feng Canjiu had been sending gifts every day for the past week.
Yet her messages to Feng Canjiu were met with only curt replies like “Mm” or “Oh,” or no response at all. Gradually, Jiang Yushu stopped sending messages altogether.
Feng Canjiu’s aloofness irritated Jiang Yushu. So what if she knew Jiang Yushu was the Omega she had Marked?
What’s with this Minor World Alpha? Does marking an Omega mean they don’t have to take responsibility?
Damn woman! The last Mark hasn’t even faded completely, and she’s already back for more. Omegas are so vulnerable during their heat cycles.
And to think the Alpha who Marked me treats me like this…
Hearing his sister’s words, Jiang Hengshu stopped in his tracks. “But Yushu…”
“I said, I don’t want her things.” Jiang Yushu stood up and pushed her plate forward. “I’m full.”
She turned and headed upstairs. The moment her bedroom door closed, the atmosphere in the dining room returned to normal.
“Whew~” Jiang Hengshu let out a long sigh. Why does my sister’s aura feel so terrifying lately?
Jiang Zhen crossed his arms, watching his daughter’s barely touched breakfast. He shook his head. “Something’s definitely going on here.”
And he was certain Feng Canjiu was behind it. While Feng Zimo was clearly no good, Feng Canjiu had been his long-time business partner. Jiang Zhen believed he understood her character fairly well.
She’s not a Scum Alpha, Jiang Henge thought, recalling how his beloved daughter had interacted with Feng Canjiu before, and considering Feng Canjiu’s extravagant gift-giving. Something’s definitely wrong.
“I think CEO Feng has been avoiding Little Sister lately,” Jiang Henge murmured, adjusting his glasses as he rose to open the foyer door.
As usual, it was He Liang, Feng Canjiu’s personal assistant, who had come to deliver the gift. Feng Canjiu always had his assistant handle these matters.
“Lawyer Jiang…” He Liang began, but before he could finish his sentence or hand over the gift, Jiang Henge gripped his wrist.
Jiang Henge raised an eyebrow, glancing at He Liang’s slightly surprised expression. “Assistant He, we can’t accept this gift.”
“Why not?” He Liang’s tone shifted, knowing he’d face a scolding if he returned empty-handed.
Jiang Henge clearly didn’t care about He Liang’s predicament. His little sister was unhappy, and accepting the gift would only make her feel worse.
For over a week, she hadn’t personally come down to accept Feng Canjiu’s gifts.
“But…”
“Assistant He,” Jiang Yushu’s voice called from behind Jiang Henge.
Jiang Henge turned, revealing the person behind him. Jiang Yushu walked to the door, raised her delicate white hand, and took the gift box from him. “Now that I’ve taken it, it’s mine, right?”
“Of course,” He Liang said, relieved to have completed his task.
Jiang Yushu glanced at the logo on the box. Another extravagant gift, but one Feng Canjiu would never have chosen personally.
“Hmph,” she scoffed, a mocking smile playing on her lips. The box flew from the Omega’s hand, arcing through the air before landing with a resounding crash in the Jiang Family courtyard, shattering completely.
The contents spilled out—a jade ornament, once emerald green, now unrecognizable in its shattered state.
He Liang’s anger flared at the sight. He glared at Jiang Yushu, but when he saw her vacant, unfocused eyes, his fury dissolved into concern.
“Jiang…” He wanted to say something, but the words caught in his throat. He didn’t know how to begin.
He Liang wasn’t entirely sure what had happened between his boss and Miss Jiang. The boss refused to elaborate, only instructing him to deliver gifts to the Jiang Family at specific times each day.
The boss had arranged for Miss Jiang’s filming schedule to be adjusted and provided her with additional resources. She was no longer the fledgling model she had once been.
Sometimes, He Liang suspected his boss was completely smitten with Miss Jiang. Yet despite all his efforts, he had never seen the boss make a genuine move.
The boss would only ask if the delivery had been completed after He Liang returned, never inquiring whether Miss Jiang liked the gifts.
“I thought I’d never encounter an Alpha like that again,” the beautiful Omega said, her lips twisting with bitterness that could break anyone’s heart. “But this one is even more disappointing.”
The Jiang Family felt a growing sense of unease. Jiang Zhen stood up, his tone serious as he asked, “Yushu, what exactly happened?”
Jiang Yushu, her eyes red-rimmed, avoided her father’s and brothers’ questioning gazes. “It’s nothing,” she mumbled. “Just a temporary marking.”
“What?” He Liang thought he must have misheard.
“What?” Jiang Henge frowned.
“Which bastard?” Jiang Hengshu swore outright.
Jiang Yushu shook her head, indicating she didn’t want to pursue the matter further. She looked earnestly at He Liang. “Go back and tell her I don’t care anymore. It was temporary anyway, right? It’ll disappear sooner or later, just like…”
Her voice trailed off. She gave a self-deprecating laugh, took a deep breath, as if forcibly dispelling the bitterness at the corners of her lips. “Assistant He, tell her I’ll do as she wishes.”
Right in front of He Liang, she pulled out her phone, found the only contact labeled “Sister” in her address book, tapped it open, and deleted it in one swift motion.
“Miss Jiang!” He Liang was bewildered. How had things escalated to this point? Was this what the Boss intended? To sever ties with Miss Jiang?
Slipping her phone back into her pocket, Jiang Yushu became like an emotionless doll. “Now she should be satisfied, right? No more gifts from now on. Just as she wanted—clear boundaries. My resignation letter will be at the front desk on Monday. Assistant He, you don’t need to see me out.”
With those words, Jiang Yushu turned and left, ascending the stairs in a few unsteady steps. Anyone could see how utterly dejected she was.
The door slammed shut with a bang, snapping the people downstairs out of their daze.
Jiang Zhen glared at He Liang. His precious daughter had been temporarily marked? And by Feng Canjiu, no less? Yet this man had the audacity to act so nonchalant?
Sending only an assistant with a gift? No matter how much higher Feng Canjiu’s social standing might be, Jiang Zhen refused to back down when it came to his daughter.
“Assistant He, you may leave now.”
“Boss Jiang…”
“Yushu has made herself clear.” Jiang Zhen cut him off, issuing an immediate dismissal.
Left with no choice, He Liang reluctantly departed. The boss really should have explained things more clearly, he thought.
The Jiang Family’s Alphas were all notorious for their obsessive devotion to Omegas. He Liang couldn’t bear their intense gazes any longer.
In the car, he texted Feng Canjiu: “The gift has been delivered, but Miss Jiang said not to send anything again in the future.”
He expected the usual silence, but this time, Feng Canjiu called back immediately.
“Boss?” He Liang was surprised.
A long silence stretched from the other end of the line. “What else did she say?”
He Liang sighed inwardly. Why bother? The Boss clearly cared about Miss Jiang, but her earlier resolute attitude had left him feeling somewhat angry on her behalf.
“Boss, since you’ve Marked her, shouldn’t you take responsibility? Even if… even if it’s just temporary.”
Miss Jiang was an Omega as pure as a fairy, likely experiencing her first Alpha Marking.
He Liang would never forget the fanatical longing and regret in Feng Zimo’s eyes when he spoke of Jiang Yushu. Even when they were engaged, he had never been able to Mark her.
For an Omega, any Marking—permanent or temporary—was a life-altering event.
“She said it,” Feng Canjiu frowned, his grip tightening on the phone.
This tone only fueled He Liang’s anger. What kind of attitude is that? Shouldn’t the Omega have spoken up? “Boss, Miss Jiang deleted your contact information and said… ‘As you wish.’ That’s all. It’s the weekend.”
With a sharp click, He Liang hung up. This was the first time he’d ever been so assertive with Feng Canjiu. Even this normally mild-mannered man couldn’t tolerate the Boss’s behavior any longer.
“Ah, I hope Miss Jiang finds a good Alpha.”
After returning to her room, Jiang Yushu locked the door. Contrary to what those outside might have expected, she showed no signs of sadness or distress.
Instead, she lay leisurely on the bed, flipping through a celebrity magazine.
My dear Host, what scheme are you plotting now? the System asked, utterly bewildered.
Jiang Yushu yawned lazily. She had come to understand Feng Canjiu’s personality quite well.
The woman appeared decisive and ruthless in her professional life, but when it came to matters of the heart, Feng Canjiu was hopelessly indecisive.
Moreover, Jiang Yushu held the position of Feng Canjiu’s adopted son’s former fiancée.
Without taking drastic measures, how could she ever hope to win her over?
Let her cool off for a while. I don’t mind finding other amusements.
Other amusements? The System didn’t like the sound of that.
Jiang Yushu’s finger landed on a page featuring an advertisement for a large nightclub. Where should a heartbroken Omega go?
This club… isn’t it owned by Fan Xunxi? Host, you wouldn’t be thinking of settling for the Peacock as a substitute since you can’t have the Major Antagonist, would you?
Who knows? Who could have guessed I knew this was Fan Xunxi’s club? Right, Sister? Besides, I still haven’t settled the score with Bai Chenchen for that unpleasant incident last time.
The Female Lead… I think…Â I think the Female Lead works as a waitress at this club to maintain her pitiful persona.
Hiss~Â The System watched Jiang Yushu’s mischievous expression. After all these years together, it knew that whenever she wore that look, someone was about to suffer.
