- Chapter 23 - The Omega Sister (23)
The moment Jiang Yushu saw Feng Canjiu, all the sharp words she had been about to unleash choked in her throat.
Holy sh1t, what is this damn System doing?
Why didn’t you tell me she was here?
The System was clearly enjoying the show. Sorry, Host. I got too caught up in your fiery ranting and forgot.
Jiang Yushu:Â Bullshit. I’d believe in ghosts before I’d believe you.
She turned away, feeling resentful, and gave Feng Canjiu a pitiful look. “Sister, when did you arrive?”
Feng Canjiu’s lips curved into a smile as she observed this completely different side of the young woman. She’s so adorable like this. “I arrived while you were reciting legal articles.”
Jiang Yushu whipped her head around. Damn it! That means she saw almost everything.
Damn System, I’ll get my revenge for this!
“Sister, everything you just saw was an illusion.”
“Oh?” Feng Canjiu raised an eyebrow. Does this little one not want me to see her fierce side?
Only then did Feng Canjiu notice her outfit: a daring backless top and a super-short skirt. She looked stunning, a sentiment shared by every Alpha in the room.
Under the intense gazes, Feng Canjiu removed her coat and draped it over Jiang Yushu’s shoulders. “Wearing something like this isn’t really appropriate for the weather.”
Fu Chenlan clicked his tongue inwardly. What’s going on here? Didn’t Jiang Yushu say she still needed my help? What happened? Does she not need me anymore?
“Mm,” Jiang Yushu nodded obediently, her earlier domineering demeanor completely gone.
At that moment, Jiang Yushu was like a docile kitten, standing silently beside Feng Canjiu.
“Good girl. I still have some business to attend to,” Feng Canjiu said, gesturing to the public officials behind her to indicate she needed to discuss matters with them.
Jiang Yushu breathed a sigh of relief. This is perfect! I can finally relax.
She had always maintained a docile and obedient facade in front of Feng Canjiu. Now that her true nature had been exposed, she had no idea how to explain herself.
Besides, she had things to do now, and she needed to figure something out herself.
The child’s dirty little hand tugged at Jiang Yushu’s sleeve. “Sister, are you going to abandon me?”
Children who have suffered long-term abuse are particularly sensitive. Tears welled up in her eyes, but her pitiful appearance wasn’t the act of a scheming “white lotus” type.
Jiang Yushu sighed and crouched down beside her. “How could I abandon you? Let’s go to the police station first, okay? I’ll help you find your family.”
At the mention of “family,” the child began to tremble violently, clutching Jiang Yushu’s arm. “No! Sister, I don’t want to go back.”
Going back would be the same as being with the Bai Family—another hell. She might encounter another Chen Jie at any moment.
Seeing the child’s distress, Jiang Yushu had a hunch. Little Sys, can you check this child’s situation?
After two beeps, the System’s dull voice echoed:Â Host… this child was sold to the Bai Family, and…
The System hesitated to deliver the next part of its message. Jiang Yushu frowned, wondering why Little Sys was being so evasive.
Tell me.
Sigh. The System took a deep breath and finally revealed the brutal truth: She was sold by her own parents.
“Despicable!” Jiang Yushu blurted out, unable to contain his anger. What kind of damn parents would do that?
“Don’t be afraid,” he murmured, scooping the child into his arms. Though the Omega was already thin, the child was even more frail. Jiang Yushu held her securely with almost no effort.
“Where are you taking her? Back to the Jiang Family?” Feng Canjiu asked urgently, seeing the situation.
In this world, an unmarried Omega was legally prohibited from adopting a child. The only exceptions were if the child was registered under one of her brothers’ names, which would inevitably affect their marital prospects.
Jiang Zhen was too old to adopt, and as a widower, the legal requirements would be even stricter.
“Leave it to me,” Feng Canjiu said after a moment’s thought. “If it’s inconvenient for you, I’ll take care of it.”
Jiang Yushu stared blankly for a moment, then burst out laughing at Feng Canjiu’s earnest expression. “Sister, what are you thinking? Of course I’ll leave it to you. What, do you expect me to raise a child alone?”
Her words carried a hint of ambiguity, and everyone present—including the government officials and Fu Chenlan—turned to look at Feng Canjiu.
Their gossip instincts flared instantly. These two women, with their status and influence, dared to meet Feng Canjiu’s gaze directly, scrutinizing her expression.
Poor He Liang could only steal glances at his boss’s face. Good heavens, what’s the tea here? he thought. If there’s nothing going on between these two, I’ll write my name backwards.
Naturally, this was her girlfriend, her Omega. The child she wanted to adopt was their child.
“Then I’ll take her to the hospital first. She’s covered in injuries.” The System could analyze the child’s information but couldn’t heal her wounds. A proper medical examination was still necessary.
“Give me your number.”
“Okay.” Jiang Yushu turned to leave.
Feng Canjiu glanced at the hem of her skirt and quickly called out, “Wait, wait!”
“Are you… really going to kiss me, even in this situation?” Jiang Yushu asked, a hint of confusion in her voice. “Just because you’re a blockhead?”
Feng Canjiu stepped forward and tugged down on her suit jacket. The hem was long enough to cover the Omega’s skirt, concealing the pale skin at the top of her thighs.
“Don’t wear such short skirts next time,” Feng Canjiu said, awkwardly averting her gaze. She felt a strange unease, the dream from before resurfacing in her mind.
Jiang Yushu smiled brightly and leaned close to Feng Canjiu’s ear, whispering, “I have even more scandalous skirts.”
“You…”
“I’ll only wear them for you, Sister. What do you say?”
The Alpha’s ears gradually flushed crimson as those words left Jiang Yushu’s lips. What is this little minx saying?
“I… I need to get back to work,” Feng Canjiu stammered, turning away to hide the panic in her eyes and walking over to the public officials.
Jiang Yushu’s delight grew even stronger. What a shy little thing. I just hope you’re as fierce as you were in my dream.
The smell of disinfectant in hospitals was Jiang Yushu’s least favorite. Over the past four hundred thousand years, she had encountered this place countless times across numerous Minor Worlds.
She had lost count of how many times she had died in hospitals.
Restlessly scratching her palm, the child noticed her unease. “Sister, are you feeling unwell?”
“I’m fine,” Jiang Yushu replied, rubbing her throbbing temples. She realized her aversion to this place had become deeply ingrained.
“Sister, you’re so pretty,” the kind child said, trying to distract her.
Sensing the child’s kindness, Jiang Yushu smiled warmly and pinched her cheek. “Such a sweet tongue! How long have you been staying with the Bai Family?”
The child tilted her head. “I can’t remember. I only remember three snowfalls in Jing City.”
Three snowfalls? Jiang Yushu was surprised. The child looked no older than five. Could she really remember events from three years ago?
Host, this child has suffered from chronic malnutrition. Though she appears small, she’s actually almost ten years old.
The news was truly shocking. The child was so frail and thin; she looked nothing like a nine-year-old.
For some reason, Jiang Yushu felt a pang of sympathy. Perhaps it was because the child’s experiences mirrored her own in some ways.
Wasn’t she also unable to return home?
At least this child knew where her home was and what her parents looked like. Jiang Yushu, on the other hand, knew nothing of her own origins.
Both were children without a home to return to. Gently taking the child’s hand, Jiang Yushu said softly, “From now on, I’ll be your home.”
“Really?” The child’s eyes lit up, but then, as if remembering something, the light dimmed again.
She lowered her head and whispered, “Can you not call me ‘Sister’? The sister from the Bai Family was never kind to me.”
Hearing her mention the Bai Family, Jiang Yushu immediately became alert. “Do you know anything about that Bai Family sister?”
The child nodded and then shook her head, unsure what Jiang Yushu meant by “know.”
“I only know that Sister was very rich. She always brought a lot of money home.”
“Rich?” Jiang Yushu repeated the word, confirming her suspicion that there was more to Bai Chenchen’s story.
“Mhm! Sister was amazing. Mama Chen said she had lots of boyfriends and girlfriends, and they all loved spending money on her.”
“Do you know any of their names?” Jiang Yushu pressed, her heart pounding. Could a child really remember so many names?
To her surprise, the girl proved remarkably sharp for her age. “There was Uncle Huang Zhijie, Uncle Zheng Xiang, and…”
As the names piled up, Jiang Yushu’s lips twitched. Was this woman a public bus?
Was she juggling eight Alphas at once?
The System was equally efficient. As the child named each person, it searched for their information and relayed it to Jiang Yushu.
Coincidentally, several of their DNA profiles were available in this world’s hospital databases.
After eliminating the two with political connections, the remaining candidates were all ruled out.
For the first time, Jiang Yushu felt the System was actually quite reliable. It had saved her a lot of effort.
The doctor applied medicine to the child and conducted a thorough physical examination.
“The child has suffered long-term abuse and severe malnutrition. She requires meticulous care,” the doctor concluded. The child was fortunate; aside from being physically weak, she had no other health issues.
Jiang Yushu knew the child’s scars were evidence of the couple’s abuse. She had initially thought she would need to do some mental preparation to get the child to cooperate with having her photos taken.
To her surprise, the child was remarkably mature. She obediently removed her shirt herself, allowing Jiang Yushu to take pictures.
“I trust you,” the child said, no longer calling her “Sister.” Deep down, she yearned to use another term.
The child was remarkably perceptive. She could tell that Jiang Yushu was young and that the fierce woman from before was her Alpha. They seemed to have discussed adopting her.
To have such a mother and mother would be incredibly fortunate.
But… Jiang Yushu was so young and beautiful. Would she really agree to be called “Mom”?
She remembered how, when she first came to the Bai Family, she had called Chen Jie “Mother-in-law.”
Chen Jie had reacted violently, beating her severely for the perceived disrespect.
Omegas seemed to dislike being addressed as “old.” What if she made the same mistake?
She wasn’t afraid Jiang Yushu would hit her. Jiang Yushu looked so gentle—she couldn’t possibly be violent.
But she was afraid of making Jiang Yushu unhappy.
Lost in these thoughts, the child obediently placed her hand in Jiang Yushu’s palm, gazing at her back. She desperately wanted to say those two words: “Mommy.”
As twilight deepened, warm yellow streetlights illuminated Jing City’s night. Jiang Yushu’s phone rang.
The pair stepped out of the hospital. Jiang Yushu answered, “Sister, where are you—”
Before she could finish, she spotted a familiar figure at the hospital entrance.
Feng Canjiu strode toward them, gently disentangling the child’s hand from Jiang Yushu’s grasp. She scooped the child into her arms with one hand and took the Omega’s hand with the other.
The Alpha’s tall frame moved with fluid grace, her movements as natural as flowing water.
“Auntie,” the child said cautiously, tugging at her slightly soiled hem. This auntie’s clothes look very expensive.
Feng Canjiu frowned at the child’s voice and tapped her forehead lightly. “Call me Mother.”
