- Chapter 4 - The Omega Sister (4)
Feng Canjiu arrived at the Fu Family’s residence at 8:30 PM, after the full moon celebration had already begun.
A hint of apology flickered in her eyes as she looked at Fu Chenlan, who stood at the entrance to greet her. “I’m sorry, Chenlan, I’m late.”
She had originally planned to arrive earlier, but the Mayor insisted on attending. The Mayor, being particularly enthusiastic, had visited Feng Canjiu’s home beforehand, and the two ended up chatting for quite some time before finally setting off together.
Fu Chenlan showed no trace of reproach, stepping forward to put an arm around her shoulder. “What are you talking about? It’s just getting started. Come, let me show you my daughter.”
Feng Canjiu’s lips curved into a helpless smile. The man’s joy was practically overflowing from his eyes.
Unlike other Alphas, Chenlan had always wanted an Omega child. In this era, girls were more likely to differentiate into Omegas, which explained his overwhelming happiness.
Seeing Fu Chenlan in such high spirits, Feng Canjiu couldn’t resist teasing him. “You’re so thrilled. What if our daughter differentiates into an Alpha instead?”
Fu Chenlan’s expression froze at the words. He lowered his hand from her shoulder. “Alpha or not, my daughter is so adorable. Even if she becomes an Alpha, she’ll be a beautiful one.”
“You’re something else,” Feng Canjiu chuckled, signaling He Liang to bring out the gifts she had prepared. One by one, large boxes were placed before Fu Chenlan.
He Liang thoughtfully opened one of the boxes. “CEO Fu, take a look. These are some dresses our Boss prepared.”
Fu Chenlan’s eyes lit up at the sight. What kind of divine friend is this? She knew that children who loved wearing dresses and dressing like Omegas had a much higher chance of differentiating into Omegas later in life.
“Only you would think of this,” Fu Chenlan said, draping his arm back over his old friend’s shoulder. “Come on, let’s go see my child.”
The two bypassed the living room and exited through the back door into the courtyard, with He Liang bringing up the rear, carrying the boxes.
In the courtyard, an Omega stood beneath a ginkgo tree, cradling a sleeping infant. Occasionally, a breeze would stir, causing one or two golden ginkgo leaves to spiral down and land softly in the baby’s swaddling clothes.
The Omega gently brushed a fallen leaf from the child’s face. Her features were like a cold mountain spring—pale and serene. Her expression remained composed, except for a fleeting tenderness that softened the corners of her eyes whenever she looked at the baby.
“Qingli, look who’s here,” Fu Chenlan called out to her wife.
Gu Qingli didn’t turn her head, recognizing the approaching footsteps instantly. “Feng Canjiu.”
“Your wife is as sharp as ever,” Feng Canjiu remarked, raising an eyebrow. She rarely saw Fu Chenlan’s Omega, but each encounter brought a fresh surprise.
Gu Qingli seemed like a half-immortal with prophetic abilities, able to discern her identity and purpose without a word.
Feng Canjiu was a businesswoman who rarely helped others out of pure sentiment. Her special treatment of Fu Chenlan stemmed from her extraordinary wife.
Gu Qingli could effortlessly resolve many of Feng Canjiu’s business challenges. To maintain discretion, they communicated solely through Fu Chenlan.
“CEO Feng sent so many dresses,” Fu Chenlan said. “Little Yun’er will wear them all when she’s older.”
Hearing his wife’s words, Fu Chenlan couldn’t contain his joy. Did this mean their child would differentiate into an Omega? His wife’s predictions had never been wrong.
But Gu Qingli’s next sentence completely extinguished his hopes. “There’s over an 80% chance it will be an Alpha—a… powerful Alpha.”
Gently stroking the baby’s cheek in the swaddling clothes, Gu Qingli’s face finally softened with warmth and tenderness. She kissed the child’s forehead—their first child with Chenlan, and the most precious gift.
Feng Canjiu glanced at Fu Chenlan’s slightly awkward expression. “It’s alright. If it doesn’t work out… we can have another one?”
Fu Chenlan scratched his head. His wife had felt no pain during childbirth, but the bl00d loss had been terrifying. The idea of having another child was something they should postpone for now.
Though he felt a twinge of regret, his daughter was undeniably adorable.
Feng Canjiu approached Gu Qingli and looked down at the sleeping infant. Only the child’s nose resembled Chenlan’s; the rest of her features were a perfect match to her mother’s. She would grow into a great beauty.
“Ah, let’s not talk about that. How have you been lately?” Fu Chenlan was referring to Feng Canjiu’s pheromone imbalance.
Feng Canjiu’s expression shifted at the mention of it.
Gu Qingli noticed her grave look. “Recently, I encountered an Omega with a very high compatibility rating and even marked them.”
“What the hell?” Fu Chenlan exclaimed, barely able to believe it.
This woman was notorious in the Jing City Circle for her frigidity. She actually marked an Omega?
It wasn’t like highly compatible Omegas hadn’t appeared before. But this aloof goddess would gag at the mere scent of their pheromones, let alone consider marking them.
Feng Canjiu lowered her gaze, nodded, and gently tapped the baby’s cheek. “It’s true. I did encounter one, but I don’t know who it was.”
All traces of the incident had vanished, making that temporary marking feel like a fleeting dream.
“Mr. Mayor is still in the main hall, Chenlan. I should go now.”
With that, Feng Canjiu turned to leave, her mood far from pleasant. Knowing her life was nearing its end, and that her only hope for survival had vanished without a trace, would leave anyone feeling uneasy.
“Wait,” Gu Qingli said, handing the child to Fu Chenlan. “Chenlan, you go with them. I don’t want to see the guests.”
Fu Chenlan understood her Omega’s aloof nature and didn’t press the matter. “Alright, then you get some rest.”
Gu Qingli gave a curt nod and turned to retreat to her room.
“Oh, by the way, where’s your cheap son?” Fu Chenlan asked, recalling how Feng Canjiu had always brought Feng Zimo to every banquet to groom her adopted son. His absence today was rather unusual.
Feng Canjiu bristled at the mention of her rebellious son and waved her hand impatiently. “Don’t mention him.”
Fu Chenlan swallowed her retort, guessing the boy had once again provoked her.
“CEO Fu, the Jiang Family has arrived and wishes to see CEO Feng,” the Fu Family’s housekeeper announced, entering the room.
“The Jiang Family?” Fu Chenlan paused, momentarily confused.
Feng Canjiu took a deep breath. The Jiang Family’s child was deeply infatuated with Feng Zimo. This visit must be about the annulled engagement.
That child probably didn’t want the engagement called off.
Feng Canjiu frowned, mentally rehearsing how to address the Jiang Family later.
“Did something happen?” Fu Chenlan asked, remembering that the Jiang Family was the one engaged to Feng Canjiu’s illegitimate son.
He’d heard the two children were mutually fond of each other. Why, then, did Feng Canjiu look so grim? This didn’t resemble a visit to in-laws; it was more like facing enemies.
Why does it feel like my old friend is walking to her doom?
“Let’s talk as we walk,” Feng Canjiu sighed, and the two headed toward the main hall. Rarely confiding in anyone, she poured out all the troubles caused by her adopted son to Fu Chenlan along the way.
Just as they reached the hall, the sound of shattering glass rang out, abruptly silencing the music. Immediately afterward, Feng Canjiu recognized a familiar voice:
“Yushu, you’re really going too far.”
Feng Canjiu pressed her hand to her forehead. Who else could it be but that adopted son of mine? What trouble has he stirred up now?
Jiang Yushu regretted her decision the moment she stepped through the Fu Family’s gates.
Where are all the beautiful female Alphas? she thought, rolling her eyes at her father and brothers before retreating to a corner to sit.
The four men of the Jiang Family, sensing her foul mood, refrained from commenting.
Their precious daughter’s appearance had undergone a striking transformation. Usually clad in white, she now wore a backless black minidress with a daringly low neckline.
Her snow-white skin and crimson lips exuded an indescribable allure, a stark contrast to her usual innocent demeanor.
“Father, what’s with Yushu today?” Jiang Hengshu swallowed nervously, sensing something different about his sister.
Jiang Zhen slapped him on the head. “Shut up. She’s finally trying a new style—mind your own business.”
“Changing styles is a good thing,” Jiang Henge said, adjusting his glasses. “Let’s go find CEO Feng.”
Oblivious to her family’s departure, Jiang Yushu yawned boredly and rejected several Alpha invitations.
This party is so dull, she thought, glancing at the clock. It’s already 9:30. Maybe I should sneak out.
With that thought, she acted immediately, slipping past the crowd and following the wall toward the exit.
An Omega dressed as a server walked straight toward Jiang Yushu, who didn’t notice until they collided with a thud.
The server was carrying a decanter of red wine on a tray. Whether intentional or not, the decanter tilted sharply toward Jiang Yushu. Jiang Yushu sidestepped and subtly lifted the tray with her hand.
The decanter’s trajectory shifted, and it crashed to the floor with a loud smash.
“I’m so sorry… Miss Jiang,” the Omega stammered, her voice trembling. Her eyes, wide with fear, stared at Jiang Yushu as she instinctively backed away two steps, as if Jiang Yushu were a wild beast about to devour her.
Host, calm down! This is the female lead, the System warned, sensing the murderous aura emanating from Jiang Yushu.
Jiang Yushu took a deep breath. What terrible luck, she thought.
“It’s fine,” Jiang Yushu said, eager to leave.
But Bai Chenchen clearly had other ideas. Her small hand clenched her sleeve, the pristine white cuff now stained with red wine, making her look somewhat disheveled.
“What happened here?” Feng Zimo’s voice cut through the crowd as he pushed his way through to assess the scene.
Before him stood two Omegas: one carrying his child, the other the Omega he had cherished for years.
Feng Zimo frowned at Jiang Yushu’s attire. “Yushu, what are you wearing?”
Why is the Omega dressed so scantily?
Bai Chenchen, standing behind Feng Zimo, gently tugged at his sleeve. “Brother Zimo, don’t blame Miss Jiang. It was my own carelessness that caused me to spill the red wine.”
Upon hearing this, Feng Zimo’s expression darkened. He frowned at Jiang Yushu and said, “Yushu, you’re really going too far.”
The crowd, unaware of the truth, turned to stare at Jiang Yushu, their expressions as if they were looking at a cruel and petty Omega.
Jiang Yushu inwardly raised an eyebrow. Oh-ho, so the female lead is a little green tea, huh? This is her level, I guess…
If it came to playing the green tea card, she could certainly outdo the female lead with ease. But right now, she had no desire to put on a show for Feng Zimo.
Just as she was about to speak, two impeccably dressed female Alphas emerged from the crowd. One had short, handsome hair and cradled a baby in her arms. The other wore her long hair half-tied back, lacking the first woman’s sharp, masculine air. Her eyes carried a hint of melancholy, her demeanor cold and aloof, yet her striking beauty resonated perfectly with Jiang Yushu’s aesthetic preferences.
“Mother,” Feng Zimo said, bowing respectfully to Feng Canjiu and distancing himself from Bai Chenchen.
“What’s going on here?”
Jiang Yushu lowered her gaze, concealing her emotions behind her eyes. Even her voice is rather pleasing, she thought. A faint, almost imperceptible smile curved her lips. Looks like I’m going to be the Male Lead’s stepmother now.
