- Chapter 6 - The Omega Sister (6)
Two weeks later, the Alliance Meeting officially concluded. Feng Canjiu returned to her empty villa at ten o’clock that night.
Beep beep—the text message notification on her flip phone sounded.
At this hour, only that little one would message her.
“Sister is amazing! I watched the Alliance Meeting broadcast. Get some rest early, okay? You don’t need to reply.”
Reading this ordinary message, Feng Canjiu felt even more guilty.
After that awkward incident last time, she was relieved the little one didn’t seem to mind. For the past two weeks, she had been so busy she hadn’t had time to keep their promise.
The little one would occasionally send a brief greeting when Feng Canjiu had a moment to spare. The gifts Feng Canjiu had sent to the Jiang family were all returned unopened.
Opening her laptop, Feng Canjiu checked her schedule. Seeing a half-day free on Saturday, she was about to reply to the little one when He Liang’s call came through.
“Boss, our automotive brand is launching soon. We need a batch of models…”
“Then why are you telling me this?” Feng Canjiu asked, feeling weary after days of relentless work. “Isn’t this the responsibility of the marketing team?”
She was doing everything herself, and she feared she would work herself to death.
He Liang replied with a hint of grievance, “Boss, didn’t you instruct me to keep you informed of every detail? This is a joint branding project with the government, so all details require your approval.”
“Fine, I’ll review the proposal on Saturday. Goodbye.”
She hung up abruptly, her only free time now gone.
Lying back on the sofa, Feng Canjiu texted Jiang Yushu, “I might not have any free time lately.”
She expected a slow reply, given the late hour, but Jiang Yushu responded almost immediately.
“That’s okay, Sister. Just focus on your work.”
This understanding tone only deepened Feng Canjiu’s guilt. “Then I’ll make time one day to take you out. You can choose where we go.”
Jiang Yushu pushed open the bedroom window, letting the moonlight spill across her face. Reply with one word: Okay.
The System reluctantly replied to the Major Antagonist’s message. The Host’s move was truly brilliant, completely manipulating the Major Antagonist.
The Host’s tactics were terrifying. Even the System, a seasoned observer, hadn’t anticipated that a character like the Major Antagonist would fall for the Host’s tricks.
Occasional greetings and expressions of concern only deepened the guilt of someone already feeling indebted to you. The System had always believed the Major Antagonist was no ordinary person, immune to the Host’s traps.
“She’s surprisingly naive,” the Omega murmured under the moonlight, a rare and breathtaking sight in the city. “How are the protagonists doing? Are they locked in yet?”
If those two aren’t locked down, what good is letting them loose to wreak havoc on the world?
Not bad. I didn’t expect the Female Lead to be so… complicated.
“What do you mean?” Sounds like there’s some juicy gossip.
The System smirked mysteriously. Besides the Male Lead, the Female Lead has been seeing other Alphas. I’ve spotted several already.
Jiang Yushu scoffed inwardly. Just like the previous Minor World, this setting is morally bankrupt. No wonder I struggled to follow this plot for so long.
So, the child in the Female Lead’s womb might not even be the Male Lead’s?
This wasn’t the first time Jiang Yushu had encountered a female lead like this. After dealing with such characters repeatedly, she had gone from numbness to complete apathy.
Recently, she had distanced herself from the Male Lead while maintaining contact with Feng Canjiu. The System had informed her that the world’s energy was still converging toward her.
This meant that even without following the damn plot, she could still obtain the world’s energy, and the System wouldn’t keep nagging her.
“Little Sys, since we can still get plenty of energy without sticking to the plot, let’s make a deal.”
The System suddenly felt a very bad premonition. You may speak.
“I’m going to seduce the Major Antagonist. Don’t nag me about it.”
Actually… you can seduce whoever you want, just don’t kill off the protagonists. I’m afraid the world will collapse.
Jiang Yushu chuckled softly, leaning lazily against the headboard. “Little Sys, so what if it collapses? After all these years, I’ve lost my original memories, and you’re the same. What do we care about the fate of these Minor Worlds?”
But…Â The System hesitated. Jiang Yushu was right. They were rootless duckweed, inexplicably bound together for four hundred thousand years.
The System didn’t know where it came from, only that it needed to collect energy, though it had no idea why.
But it was like a pre-programmed routine; the System could only follow its instructions relentlessly.
Jiang Yushu didn’t want to dwell on the matter. “That’s all.”
“Check on Feng Canjiu for me. What’s she been so busy with lately? She doesn’t even have time for a meal? I know I manipulated her a bit, exploiting her guilt toward me.”
Feng Canjiu wasn’t one to break promises repeatedly. With the important meetings already concluded, what could possibly be keeping her so occupied? If they never saw each other, their progress bar would never advance.
Expecting the System to refuse or make excuses, Jiang Yushu was surprised when it obediently retrieved information about Feng Canjiu’s company.
Her company’s brand has collaborated with the government on a new car model, set to launch at the end of this month. They need models for promotional photos.
“I see,” Jiang Yushu murmured, stroking her chin, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “I remember the original owner’s college major was modeling. What do you think about me interning at my sister’s company?”
System… What can I say? You’re the Host, you make the rules.
The next morning, Jiang Yushu announced her plans to work to the men of the household. Jiang Hengshu immediately objected.
“Absolutely not! My precious little sister doesn’t need to work.”
“Exactly,” Jiang Henge agreed, adjusting his glasses as he glanced at the Legal Daily in his hand. “Yushu, if you need money, just tell your brother. I’ll give you some.”
Jiang Hengyuan clapped him on the shoulder. “It’s not your turn to offer.”
What brother? You’re her third brother. I’m the eldest. Rounding up, I’m practically her only brother.
“What kind of job are you planning to do?” Jiang Zhen asked calmly. Since his daughter had already made up her mind, there was no point in arguing.
“Modeling.” Jiang Yushu pulled out a chair and sat at the table, beginning to eat her breakfast. She made it clear she wasn’t asking for their permission.
“That’s even worse!” Jiang Hengshu exclaimed, horrified. “That’s practically the entertainment industry! How could you become a model? Absolutely not! Those company bosses are all shady characters…”
“I’m going to the Feng Family’s company. They’re looking for car models for promotional shoots.” I wish he was a shady character, always trying to pressure me into ‘special favors’, Jiang Yushu thought, inwardly scoffing. She wasn’t fond of anyone badmouthing her beloved sister.
“The Feng Family?” Jiang Zhen frowned slightly. “Are you still hung up on that Feng boy?”
Disgusted by the name, Jiang Yushu curled her lip. “Father, we’re eating. Can we please not talk about such gross topics?”
Her expression seemed genuine. Could it be she was just overthinking things?
“If you want to be a model, you can come to my company,” Jiang Hengyuan said, leaning closer. While the Jiang Family wasn’t as powerful as the Feng Family, they were still a significant enterprise in Jing City.
Jiang Yushu turned sideways. “No, if I go to Eldest Brother’s company, people will say I got in through connections.”
“Then let me take you,” Jiang Hengshu said, stepping forward and nudging Jiang Hengyuan aside. “Our company has many contracted models.”
She rolled her eyes. “Second Brother, if I go to your company, I won’t be seen as a nepotism hire?”
“And you wouldn’t be a nepotism hire at Feng Canjiu’s company?” Jiang Zhen retorted, using her own words against her. Everyone knew Feng Canjiu was now consumed by guilt toward his precious daughter.
The gifts he’d sent recently would have filled their small house if Jiang Zhen hadn’t stopped them.
It wasn’t that they didn’t appreciate Feng Canjiu’s sincerity, but his generosity was overwhelming. The gifts were too extravagant, too valuable—they simply couldn’t accept them.
Anyone who didn’t know better might think their ties to the Feng Family hadn’t been severed.
To protect his daughter’s reputation, Jiang Zhen refused the gifts, wanting to avoid any rumors that the Jiang Family had accepted the Feng Family’s betrothal gifts.
“I’m going to be a model, but I didn’t tell Elder Sister~”
The way she said “Elder Sister” was so sweet it made the group of grown men feel a pang of jealousy.
Jiang Zhen:Â Why does my darling call me so casually? This isn’t right! Why does she call Feng Canjiu “Elder Sister”?
Jiang Hengyuan:Â Am I not worthy? Don’t I deserve such a sweet call from my little sister?
Jiang Hengshu:Â Damn it, Feng Canjiu! I’ll never forgive you for stealing my sister!
Jiang Henge:Â If only my sister could call me “Brother” with even a fraction of that sweetness someday…
“Sigh.” The four men sighed in unison, each feeling like a fellow wanderer at the ends of the earth.
“If that’s the case, you may go,” Jiang Zhen said with a sigh. “I know Feng Canjiu well enough to say she’s a decent person.”
“Thank you, Father.”
“You…” Jiang Zhen started to speak, then trailed off.
Jiang Yushu looked at him with suspicion. “What is it, Father?”
Jiang Zhen pursed his lips, considering how to tell his daughter she should be more polite to Feng Canjiu and address her properly according to seniority. But this was his precious daughter, so he chose the gentlest approach. “Darling, why do you call Feng Canjiu ‘Sister’?”
“Isn’t she only thirteen years older than me?” Jiang Yushu blinked, confused. What’s wrong with calling my future wife ‘Sister’?
Jiang Zhen choked, awkwardly turning his head away. “But Feng Zimo is your classmate. Calling Feng Canjiu ‘Sister’ just seems… inappropriate.”
“Feng Zimo and I have nothing to do with each other. Why can’t I call her that?” I like calling her that. Not just now, but even more passionately in bed later.
Hearing her say she had nothing to do with Feng Zimo, Jiang Zhen felt a wave of relief. Good, my darling daughter has finally come to her senses. They had only learned about the incident at the full moon celebration afterward.
It was fortunate Feng Canjiu had been there that day. Otherwise, the scene would have been quite a spectacle. Knowing their daughter’s temperament, she would have undoubtedly been bullied by Feng Zimo.
“I’m done eating. Time for my interview. Bye!”
Jiang Yushu set down her chopsticks and left the house immediately.
The men in the family watched her retreating figure, each feeling a pang of reluctance.
Jiang Henge, as a lawyer, possessed a keen sense of observation. “I think our little sister has changed her target.”
“What target?” Jiang Hengshu blinked, looking like a clueless deer.
Jiang Hengyuan understood his brother’s meaning. “What Third Brother means is that Yushu no longer likes Feng Zimo. She’s moved on to someone else.”
“Who?” Jiang Hengshu bristled. Why does the whole world want to steal my sister?
Jiang Henge didn’t answer. The way she had said “Sister” earlier had been quite unsettling.
“Feng Canjiu,” Jiang Zhen murmured, uttering the name.
All three men turned to him. So… their sister was going to become Feng Zimo’s…Â mother? Was this her latest method of revenge?
