- Chapter 8 - The Omega Sister (8)
When the on-site staff saw Feng Canjiu, they were stunned.
“CEO Feng, what brings you here personally?” The film set’s chief supervisor felt his head spinning. Just seeing the Alpha made a thin layer of cold sweat break out on his back.
This is Feng Canjiu! Could it be that our progress is too slow, and she’s impatient enough to come herself?
“Hmm,” Feng Canjiu replied, as reserved as ever.
Seeing this, He Liang abandoned his usual cheerful demeanor and said sternly to the supervisor, “How’s today’s footage? Can we get a sample cut? Remember, we only have a week left until the launch.”
The supervisor stammered for a long moment, still nervous in front of the CEO’s assistant. “Assistant He… today’s footage is… actually quite good… today…”
“Get to the point,” Feng Canjiu said, her hands clasped behind her back, thumb idly turning the ring on her index finger. Why is it so difficult for these people to answer a simple question?
Her gaze swept across the set, but she didn’t spot Jiang Yushu. Is the little one not here?
The supervisor was struggling to maintain his composure. He’d reviewed today’s footage and found it satisfactory. At this point, the best course of action would be to have Rogers bring the map over for Feng Canjiu to examine. That way, he could at least say he’d delivered on his responsibilities.
“Shall I have the photographer bring today’s photos for you to review?”
“Hmm.” Feng Canjiu settled into the lounge chair under the sun umbrella, and He Liang, ever the sycophant, handed her a drink.
Rogers had been reluctant to come when summoned. While the photos were visually stunning, they hadn’t been retouched yet. Presenting unedited work felt like a disrespect to art.
“Rogers, please, I’m begging you,” the manager pleaded, his head nearly exploding at Rogers’ stubbornness.
Rogers understood the situation and sighed softly. “Fine, I’ll retouch one photo here. You can show it to the boss.”
The modeling industry was practically half of the entertainment world, and unspoken rules were rampant. The fact that the individual wanted to see Jiang Yushu’s photos raised suspicions about ulterior motives.
Rogers felt a pang of pity for the ethereal Omega, but he was just a photographer. There was nothing he could do to intervene.
“CEO Feng, this is the retouched photo from the photographer.” The manager handed the laptop to He Liang, his heart pounding like a drum. He prayed the great CEO would be satisfied, or else… I’m finished.
He Liang took the laptop, glancing at the screen. The image looked vaguely familiar.
He turned his head, recognizing the person in the photo. “Whoa.”
Feng Canjiu frowned. “What’s wrong?” Can’t you use proper language in a formal setting?
“No, Boss, look.” He turned the laptop screen toward Feng Canjiu and pointed at the person in the photo. “Boss, doesn’t she look familiar?”
It’s her. Feng Canjiu’s heart skipped a beat. She reached out to He Liang. “Give it to me.”
Taking the laptop, Feng Canjiu’s gaze locked onto the screen, unwavering. The person in the image seemed like an ethereal being who had wandered out of a dreamlike wonderland, despite her simple attire and pose.
Yet her eyes were filled with stories, drawing viewers in, compelling them to unravel her mysteries.
Below the image, Rogers had added a line in English: “When she loved me, I was the rose in bloom.”
In the silent room, all eyes were fixed on Feng Canjiu’s face, trying to discern whether she approved of the image or not.
“Where is she?”
After a long pause, Feng Canjiu finally spoke.
The supervisor, hearing Feng Canjiu’s voice, stammered, “Ah, who are you referring to?”
“Her.” Feng Canjiu swiveled the computer screen toward the supervisor and tapped the screen twice with a pale fingertip. “I’m talking about her—Jiang Yushu.”
“You know her?” The supervisor was stunned. Oh no, am I going to die a horrible death? Is this Omega someone CEO Feng knows?
I even had her pose for so long just to get the job done quickly. I’m doomed.
“She’s in the lounge,” the Omega said, her voice dripping with displeasure.
Chaochao stood nearby with her arms crossed, her gaze fixed on the lounge in the distance. As Fan Xunxi’s assistant, this wasn’t the first time she’d witnessed such a scene.
With that Omega’s looks, no wonder Fan Xunxi is smitten.
Fan Xunxi had countless lovers, and Chaochao was one of them. Though resentment simmered within her, she knew that, ultimately, she was the only one among these lovers who could remain by Fan Xunxi’s side.
“Who is she?” He Liang, ever perceptive, especially around Feng Canjiu, noticed the subtle tightening of the boss’s brow after the Omega spoke.
“Oh, oh, oh, she’s Film Empress Fan’s assistant,” the supervisor replied.
Hearing the name again, Feng Canjiu felt a flicker of suspicion. An Alpha hiring an Omega as an assistant?
The entertainment industry was rife with people who appeared respectable on the surface but were rotten to the core beneath. Yet, merely seeing Fan Xunxi’s assistant had already given Feng Canjiu a deeply unfavorable impression of the International Film Empress.
“Let’s go,” Feng Canjiu said, rising to her feet. She decided to meet the young woman and treat her to a quick meal.
Chaochao scoffed. “I doubt it’s convenient for you to go there right now.”
Feng Canjiu didn’t pause. In her mind, the young woman wasn’t the type to be involved in such situations. If it wasn’t convenient, could it be…?
“He Liang, hurry up!” Feng Canjiu urged, a growing dread forming in her heart. She hoped her suspicions were unfounded.
The two hurried down the corridor toward the lounge. Before they reached the door, Feng Canjiu heard the young woman’s voice.
“Film Empress Fan, please don’t… I’m not… that kind of Omega.”
This… Feng Canjiu’s pupils constricted. It was exactly as she had feared.
Without knocking, the top-tier Alpha kicked the lounge door open.
A deafening crash shook the room, causing both occupants to snap their heads toward the door.
Jiang Yushu, like a startled fawn, shrank back, peering timidly at the suddenly appearing Feng Canjiu.
Damn, this woman is seriously… ridiculously handsome!
System… Why is your shoulder trembling, old man?
Shut up. I’m just… ridiculously excited right now.
System… I should have kept my mouth shut.
“Si… Sister,” the startled Omega stammered, her voice lacking its usual composure.
Feng Canjiu’s eyes held no warmth as she stared intently at Fan Xunxi, who remained unfazed.
“Come here,” she said coldly, the unspoken target of her command clear.
Jiang Yushu, like a docile white rabbit with drooping ears, obediently walked to Feng Canjiu’s side.
Feng Canjiu seized her wrist and dragged her out of the room.
Her brisk pace forced Jiang Yushu to struggle to keep up, the hand gripping her wrist tightening painfully. Tsk tsk tsk, is she angry? Or jealous?
So fierce, I love it.
Reaching the end of the corridor, Feng Canjiu turned, looking down at Jiang Yushu. “Why didn’t you tell me you were coming here?”
The Omega winced, realizing the Alpha had unconsciously tightened her grip.
“Sister, you’re hurting me,” Jiang Yushu said, a physiological tear welling in the corner of his eye.
Feng Canjiu immediately realized her mistake and released his wrist. “I’m sorry.”
Freeing his wrist, Jiang Yushu flexed his slightly numb hand, a red mark circling his pale wrist.
Tsk, tsk, tsk. I never knew you were such a cold fish. I wonder…
Host! Could you please stop driving in my brain? You know every time you start thinking like that, my CPU starts overheating!
“How did you end up here, Sister?”
“You still haven’t answered my question,” Feng Canjiu said coldly, adopting the stern demeanor of a parent scolding a child.
Omega’s chin trembled slightly as she turned her head to the side. “I didn’t know this was Sister’s project.”
Didn’t know? Feng Canjiu’s heart skipped a beat. Her eyes narrowed as she scrutinized Jiang Yushu’s face, searching for any sign of deception.
Having read countless people, Feng Canjiu found no trace of a lie on Jiang Yushu’s face. She genuinely seemed unaware.
“I’m sorry,” Jiang Yushu murmured.
“Why are you apologizing?” Feng Canjiu asked. This person is so silly. What’s there to apologize for? So adorable.
Feng Canjiu looked guiltily at Jiang Yushu’s wrist. “I didn’t mean to grab you so hard. I was just worried…”
“Worried about what?” Jiang Yushu interrupted. “Worried about me and Fan Xunxi? Is that how you see me, Sister? As that kind of Omega?”
“No,” Feng Canjiu denied. “I just met Fan Xunxi’s assistant earlier. I don’t think she’s as innocent as people say, so I rushed here to find you.”
Jiang Yushu chuckled. “So that’s it? I never imagined that Sister, who’s always so busy she doesn’t even have time to eat with me, would be so concerned about the entertainment industry.”
Feng Canjiu couldn’t believe there wasn’t a hint of resentment in those words, yet the young man spoke with such disarming sincerity.
“I haven’t been paying attention to her,” Feng Canjiu said truthfully. She had only heard about Fan Xunxi from He Liang.
It was only after encountering Fan Xunxi’s Omega assistant outside that Feng Canjiu began to suspect the Alpha wasn’t as virtuous as her public image suggested.
“Oh~” Jiang Yushu replied, his tone laden with meaning.
“It’s not a big deal, really,” he continued, his gaze darkening slightly. “She only hinted at things. Nothing actually happened.”
Watching the bitter twist of his lips, Feng Canjiu knew the young man was trying to comfort her.
“If something had actually happened, how would I explain it to the Jiang Family?”
The Omega lifted his head, his dewy, deer-like eyes meeting Feng Canjiu’s calm gaze. “So, Sister’s concern for me is only because of my family?”
For some reason, when Feng Canjiu looked into those eyes, she desperately wanted to say no. It wasn’t because of the Jiang Family, but because he was Jiang Yushu.
The words caught in Feng Canjiu’s throat. Their respective positions made discussing this topic inappropriate.
The subject was too intimate.
Jiang Yushu sniffled, masking her bitterness with a smile. “Sister, I’m a little tired. I think I’ll go rest for a while.”
“I’ll come with you,” Feng Canjiu blurted out, instinctively wanting to prevent Jiang Yushu from experiencing anything like what had happened earlier.
Jiang Yushu paused, looking at the Alpha with confusion. “Sister wants to accompany me to the lounge?”
“Yes. I’m worried Fan Xunxi might come looking for you again. It’s not safe for an Alpha and an Omega to be alone together.”
Jiang Yushu tilted her head, her expression casual. “Then aren’t you and I an Alpha and an Omega too, Sister?”
“It’s different.” Feng Canjiu turned away, avoiding those expressive, deer-like eyes. She strode toward the lounge. “Come on.”
Tsk, tsk, tsk, a triumphant glint flashed in Jiang Yushu’s eyes. Sister, you’re done for. You’re about to fall headfirst into my love trap.
