- Chapter 9 - The Omega Sister (9)
Finding an empty lounge, Jiang Yushu immediately lay down on the sofa.
Feng Canjiu pulled up a chair beside her and casually picked up a magazine from the table, flipping through its pages.
“Sister, aren’t you going to rest?” Jiang Yushu gently tugged at the Alpha’s sleeve.
Feng Canjiu turned her head, their gazes meeting in the air. “I’m fine. You should sleep.”
“Okay.” Jiang Yushu turned her back to Feng Canjiu.
The Omega’s delicate back was fully exposed to Feng Canjiu’s view.
The lines of her spine were like a masterpiece sculpted by an art master, tracing the Omega’s fair skin. A pair of exquisite butterfly bones seemed poised to take flight.
Feng Canjiu was momentarily stunned by the sight. She awkwardly turned her head, removed her suit jacket, and draped it over the Omega.
Leaning closer, she could clearly hear Jiang Yushu’s even breathing. Feng Canjiu sighed inwardly—this little one truly had no sense of caution.
Returning to her seat, she silenced her phone and continued flipping through the magazine.
The person who should have been asleep opened her eyes. How truly naive, Jiang Yushu thought, a sly smile flickering in her eyes. A gentle and caring older sister—just thinking about it makes my heart melt.
Just that? Host, she’s seen through your plan. Out of sight, out of mind, the System chimed in, pouring cold water on her enthusiasm as usual.
Jiang Yushu ignored it completely. Is this thing really so opposed to me dating? How ridiculous. I’ll do whatever I want. As my System, you only have two options: agree or be forced to agree.
About twenty minutes later, a gentle knock sounded on the lounge door.
Feng Canjiu glanced at the still-sleeping Omega before rising to answer it. Her already cold eyes turned even colder when she saw who it was.
She stepped out of the lounge and closed the door quietly, her movements belying the murderous glint in her eyes.
“What did Film Empress Fan do afterward?” Feng Canjiu’s voice was flat, yet it sent a chill down one’s spine.
Facing such a Feng Canjiu, Fan Xunxi remained remarkably composed, as if she were a completely different person from the one who had harbored ill intentions toward the Omega earlier.
“CEO Feng, I just came to check on the Omega inside.”
“Your concern is unnecessary.” A piercing aura erupted from Feng Canjiu’s eyes, the sudden chill forcing Fan Xunxi to take two steps back.
Fan Xunxi studied Feng Canjiu with curiosity. Her expression now contradicted the rumors that she never interacted with Omegas.
“CEO Feng, are you and that Omega… in the kind of relationship I’m thinking of?”
Feng Canjiu was considerably older than Jiang Yushu, but such age gaps were hardly uncommon in the business and entertainment worlds.
“No,” Feng Canjiu stated flatly. “She’s the child of a friend.”
To be a friend of Feng Canjiu meant holding significant status within the Jing City Circle. Her words carried an unspoken warning: Jiang Yushu was not an Omega Fan Xunxi could covet.
“Hah.” A disdainful curl twisted Fan Xunxi’s lips, clearly dissatisfied with the answer. “If you’re not in that kind of relationship, why interfere with which Alpha an Omega chooses to associate with?”
“You’re not suitable.” You’re not a good Alpha, Feng Canjiu thought, her eyes narrowing slightly. The more she looked at Fan Xunxi, the more she disliked her.
Fan Xunxi scoffed, dismissing Feng Canjiu’s opinion. “CEO Feng, what era are we living in? Even parents don’t interfere with their children’s relationships anymore, do they?”
“You call that a relationship?” Feng Canjiu glanced at her indifferently. Your behavior hardly qualifies as a relationship, does it?
Fan Xunxi shrugged, unfazed by the sarcasm in Feng Canjiu’s tone. “If it’s consensual, why isn’t it a relationship? Besides, I find her fascinating, and I genuinely want to pursue a serious relationship with her.”
“Don’t even bother,” Feng Canjiu retorted, pouring cold water on her aspirations. “You’ll never win her over.”
The little one probably hasn’t forgotten her good-for-nothing adopted son yet.
Having only recently annulled her engagement, Jiang Yushu likely wouldn’t be ready to accept another Alpha so soon.
And this Alpha was far from a suitable match.
“Film Empress Fan, I’ll take my leave now.”
Checking the time, Feng Canjiu realized she had wasted nearly twenty minutes on this conversation. The little one will probably wake up soon.
She had taken only two steps when Fan Xunxi spoke, her tone flat, “Can you truly guarantee that you and she don’t have… that kind of relationship?”
Feng Canjiu froze in her tracks. She thought she had made herself perfectly clear. Why was Fan Xunxi repeating the question?
“I’ve already answered that.”
“Hmph.” A mocking smile curled Fan Xunxi’s lips. She was a seasoned hunter, and in her eyes, Feng Canjiu’s current attitude toward Jiang Yushu had already surpassed the concern of an elder for a junior.
Feng Canjiu’s repeated denials suggested that she herself might not have realized how her feelings for Jiang Yushu had changed.
This was not a good sign. Jiang Yushu’s earlier behavior toward Feng Canjiu clearly showed a dependence on her.
Stroking her chin thoughtfully, Fan Xunxi pondered the matter. The footsteps behind her faded into the distance, but she didn’t turn back.
If Jiang Yushu were merely a model Feng Canjiu had taken a fancy to, Fan Xunxi wouldn’t have considered a direct confrontation.
But Feng Canjiu had denied any special relationship with Jiang Yushu.
That little Omega… Images of Jiang Yushu under the camera’s gaze kept flashing through her mind.
“Truly beautiful.” More beautiful than any prey she had ever encountered.
Jiang Yushu initially pretended to be asleep, but eventually drifted off for real.
The Alpha’s suit carried a faint fragrance of perfume. As Jiang Yushu’s eyes fluttered open, she took a deep breath, a hint of disappointment surfacing in her heart.
This scent wasn’t the pheromonal scent she had hoped for. She found herself curiously wondering what Feng Canjiu’s pheromones actually smelled like.
“Sigh.” What a remarkably self-controlled Alpha, she thought. Not even a trace of pheromones lingers on her clothes.
Most Alphas in this world were like Fan Xunxi—peacock-like showoffs. If they weren’t restrained from freely releasing their pheromones, the streets would likely be saturated with their scent.
Alphas often left traces of their pheromones on their clothing as a way to attract Omegas. Unfortunately, Feng Canjiu was not one of these Alphas.
“Why the sigh?”
Feng Canjiu pushed open the door and immediately heard Jiang Yushu’s sigh. Assuming she hadn’t slept well, she asked, “Didn’t sleep well?”
“No,” Jiang Yushu replied, shaking her head obediently. She stood up and held out the suit jacket. “Sister, your clothes.”
Feng Canjiu reached for the jacket, but her hand froze mid-air.
The fabric might have absorbed Omega pheromones.
After only a moment’s hesitation, she took the jacket back.
Alphas have incredibly sensitive senses of smell, but Feng Canjiu detected no pheromones on the coat.
This was to be expected. Jiang Yushu had been temporarily marked by an unknown Alpha just a few days prior, and her glands still carried that Alpha’s scent.
To gradually draw Feng Canjiu into her gentle trap, Jiang Yushu couldn’t afford such a mistake.
Moreover, the System’s data had revealed that Feng Canjiu suffered from a rare Pheromone Disorder Syndrome, making her unable to tolerate any Omega’s pheromones.
Jiang Yushu certainly didn’t want a half-dead or dead Alpha.
“Let’s go eat,” Feng Canjiu said. It was nearly one o’clock, and she figured Jiang Yushu must be hungry.
Hearing this, Jiang Yushu took two steps back, feigning refusal. “Sister wouldn’t be… trying to cancel out that meal you owed me by treating me today, would you?”
Feng Canjiu chuckled, a hint of helplessness flickering in her eyes. “Is that really how you see me? This is just a casual meal; it doesn’t cancel out the previous one. Didn’t we agree you’d pick the place?”
Jiang Yushu sighed in relief. “That’s good then.”
Of course, she knew Feng Canjiu didn’t mean it that way. This was merely one of Jiang Yushu’s impromptu performances. Still, seeing Feng Canjiu display a different expression was an unexpected delight.
Feng Canjiu’s choice of restaurant was no ordinary place.
Seated in the private dining room, Jiang Yushu rested her chin in her hand, idly gazing at the scenery outside the window.
This was a private garden, and the entire restaurant was designed in an antique style.
Even without considering the surroundings, the restaurant’s interior alone must have cost a fortune.
What a lavish display.
“Why aren’t you ordering? What are you looking at outside?” Feng Canjiu asked, pushing the menu toward Jiang Yushu.
Jiang Yushu gently pushed the menu back. “I don’t eat much. You order, Sister.”
“Then that’s settled.” Feng Canjiu closed the menu and handed it to the waiter.
After the waiter left, neither of them spoke.
“Actually…” Feng Canjiu began slowly.
“What is it?” Jiang Yushu turned her head, meeting her gaze.
“Actually, you shouldn’t call me ‘Sister.’ You and Zimo are classmates. And…”
As soon as she mentioned that name, Feng Canjiu regretted it. She saw a flicker of sadness in Jiang Yushu’s eyes. She hasn’t forgotten that good-for-nothing after all.
“I’m sorry.”
“Why are you apologizing?” After calling me that for so long, there’s no way you can change now. As for mentioning that scumbag Male Lead, I was just putting on an act.
Feng Canjiu remained silent, regretting she’d spoken at all.
“I have nothing to do with him anymore. You’re only a little over ten years older than me. Shouldn’t I be calling you ‘Sister’?”
Her voice carried a hint of aggrieved bitterness, softening Feng Canjiu’s heart. “Mm, if that makes you comfortable, then go ahead.”
This straightforward answer clearly hit Jiang Yushu’s sweet spot. You said it yourself, she thought. There’s no room for backing out now.
From Jiang Yushu’s observations, Feng Canjiu was a highly moral person. Right now, their relationship was barely even a possibility.
To truly be with her, Feng Canjiu would inevitably have to overcome her own internal moral barrier.
Better to gradually dismantle her defenses, little by little. In time, those insignificant feelings of guilt would dissipate like smoke.
“What do you think of Fan Xunxi?”
“Who?”
“Fan Xunxi,” Feng Canjiu repeated, her tone flat as she spoke the name she disliked.
Fan Xunxi had been right about one thing: Jiang Yushu was a free Omega with the right to choose his own partner. But Feng Canjiu desperately hoped that partner wouldn’t be an Alpha like Fan Xunxi.
If Jiang Yushu genuinely seemed to like that woman, Feng Canjiu would find a way to nip this dangerous notion in the bud.
Oh, someone’s got an opinion, Jiang Yushu thought, his mind racing. Calling Feng Canjiu’s behavior jealousy wasn’t quite accurate.
But to say she was completely indifferent would be a lie. The question was, where did this unease lie on the spectrum between mere concern and full-blown jealousy?
“Sister doesn’t like her?”
“Mm.”
“Then I don’t like her either,” Jiang Yushu replied earnestly, his smiling eyes meeting Feng Canjiu’s. “Whatever Sister likes, I like. Whatever Sister dislikes, I won’t like either.”
