The Wind Heard Her Confession - Chapter 2: A Blinding Crush part 1
After exiting the interview room, Lin Yuran pulled out her phone to see Xu Jianwei had sent her a message saying she was waiting for her at the sports arena.
Following the sign, she spotted Xu Jianwei standing afar with a cigarette between her slender fingers, staring blankly at a poster on the wall.
Lin Yuran glanced up briefly; the character featured on the poster was one she had just met—Qin Lang.
Xu Jianwei smoked a woman’s brand, which wasn’t too harsh, but three sneezes still escaped from Lin Yuran’s body nonetheless.
At the sound of movement, Xu Jianwei snapped back to reality and quickly extinguished the cigarette between her fingers. She waved the smoke lingering in the air away, tossed the half-smoked cigarette into the trashcan beside her, then walked back to ask, “So how did it go?”
Lin Yuran’s shoulders dropped slightly. “I don’t know. Maybe not so well.”
“No way! With how popular our IP is, they wouldn’t pass us over, right?” Xu Jianwei frowned deeply, puzzled by this response.
Lin Yuran strode forward as she answered, “Our competitor is simply too impressive. I saw the creative director of PINK MAN, Kong Sang, earlier—he graduated from SIAS with honors.”
“Seriously? Ranran, you care about these things?” Xu Jianwei caught up to her.
“It’s not that I care, it’s that he does,” Lin Yuran said helplessly. “They asked about my education just now.”
“Then ask away,” Xu Jianwei said. “We’re about to become Tsinghua’s top students.”
“I didn’t say that.” Lin Yuran laughed helplessly. “But I did manage to show off a little earlier.”
“That should be fine then,” Xu Jianwei relaxed. “Even without trying, we’re already cool enough, so if we try a little more, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish.”
Lin Yuran stopped walking and smiled bitterly. “Sister, it seems this sudden wealth might be too much for us to handle!”
Xu Jianwei blinked at her. “Ranran, that doesn’t sound like something you would say—where is our invincible confidence?”
Lin Yuran pondered briefly before biting her lip, her voice tinged with melancholy. “The one who interviewed me just now was Chi Ye.”
“Chi Ye?!” Xu Jianwei immediately perked up and grabbed onto Lin Yuran’s arm, excitedly asking, “Could it be that Chi Ye—the one who caused such a stir when he transferred schools?”
Lin Yuran nodded. “That’s him.”
Xu Jianwei felt relieved. “So what? He’s still an old classmate; don’t tell me you’ve lost hope already.”
Lin Yuran paused again, letting out a heavy sigh. “It could be anyone, but… it seems like we really don’t have any hope if it’s him. Plus, his position appears quite high; everyone bows and greets him.”
Xu Jianwei reasonably deduced, “So he isn’t the boss of RanYe? Chi Ye’s personality is too strong for him to possibly work under someone else, and he certainly has the wealth.”
“Perhaps.”
Facing Xu Jianwei’s puzzled gaze, Lin Yuran hesitated slightly before sighing. “If you knew what I told him back then, you’d understand why it’s impossible.”
“What did you say?” Xu Jianwei pressed curiously. “It’s been so long—can’t that be set aside?”
“Very harsh words.”
“Huh?”
Lin Yuran bit his lip heavily, then mumbled, “I told him… gaming is… not a proper occupation.”
The moment these words left her mouth, a scene she had buried deep within her memories suddenly reappeared before her eyes.
Dark clouds poured over the sky like ink, pressing down on the land. The ominous sight resembled a storm about to break. Insects and flies scrambled everywhere, as if desperately seeking shelter from the impending tempest.
Within the silent corner of the office building’s staircase, the air was thick with stifling heat. The youth’s eyes were dark, and regardless of the gloomy skies above, they still reflected glimmers of light beneath the surface.
A nervous smile tugged at the corners of his lips, and he tentatively asked the question concealed deep within his heart. Her response was like the impending torrential rain, extinguishing all hope within him.
Lin Yuran’s emotions at that moment were already somewhat hazy. But she still remembered the sharp pain that traveled from her heart.
The loose strands of hair on the boy’s forehead danced wildly with the wind, and the smile frozen on his lips gradually vanished. His voice grew hoarse as he asked in disbelief, “Lin Yuran, are you serious?”
The gusts made her sway slightly; leaves rustled to the ground from branches above. She lowered her gaze, her voice barely audible as she confessed, “Yes.”
Without another glance, she turned around and swiftly walked away, fleeing from something.
From then on, the charming curve on his lips never appeared again, and the spirited optimism in his eyes seemed to have been swept away by the winds of that day, leaving nothing behind.
“Ah?” Xu Jianwei was shocked. “No way, why would you say something like that to him?”
“Don’t ask me anymore, I’m not in the mood.” Sighing, Lin Yuran began walking toward the parking area.
Xu Jianwei followed, processing the explosive exchange earlier.
At Xu Jianwei’s car, she noticed a small card stuck on the handle of the passenger door. Lin Yuran pulled it out, skimmed over it briefly, and waved it toward Xu Jianwei.
“That guy handing out flyers doesn’t even bother to think before he works. Your car is pink; it’s obviously driven by a woman. What use would giving you these cards have?”
Xu Jianwei took out her car key and unlocked the door, then casually tossed the card left inside the driver’s door onto the passenger seat. “Look at the back.”
Lin Yuran flipped the card over.
Wow! The back was printed with ten or so handsome men, each one muscular and well-defined from their chests down to their abs.
The words ‘Waiting for sister to play’ were boldly written in bright pink across the middle of the card.
Lin Yuran opened the passenger door, got in, and held up the card, sighing, “Times really have changed!”
“If you’re not going to throw it away, why bring it inside?” Xu Jianwei asked.
Lin Yuran tossed the card into the slot beside the door. “I’m doing my part to protect the environment. I’ll find a trash bin later when we get off.”
Xu Jianwei let out a scoff and asked, “Are you heading back to the studio or somewhere else?”
“I’ve finished all the work here, so take me to my mom’s place.”
“Sure.” Xu Jianwei swiftly found the address on the navigation screen and started the car engine.
After driving steadily onto the road, Xu Jianwei still seemed unwilling to give up as she asked, “Ranran, there truly isn’t any hope to cooperate with RanYe?”
“Really no hope.” Lin Yuran tilted his head to look outside the window, expression darkened. “Chi Ye has built such a successful gaming company, so he must have an answer. He must be angry inside, wanting to show everyone who underestimated him that he’s made it big now,” Lin Yuran recalled the awkwardness during the interview and said, “This slap in the face certainly was loud today.”
Xu Jianwei turned her head slightly toward him and hesitantly asked, “Why do I feel like that’s not true? Chi Ye did like you, right? Didn’t he even try pursuing you back when we were still in school?”
Lin Yuran’s breath stilled.
Pursued me before?
Maybe not really.
Did he like me?
Chi Ye never expressed any feelings of affection for her either…
The scene of those beautiful lips slowly disappearing once again flashed through her mind.
Then again… He only asked half-jokingly, perhaps she had taken it too seriously due to her pain.
