The Wind Heard Her Confession - Chapter 3: A Blinding Crush part 1
The cell phone in her pocket vibrated.
Lin Yuran took out her phone and saw it was a WeChat message from Xu Jianwei:
【Sister, this guy I met today is quite the looker, single, and a rich second-gen. Should I introduce you guys?】
Along with the photo of the man.
Lin Yuran opened the photo briefly; he certainly was handsome. Xu Jianwei’s taste in men was impeccable.
Yet Lin Yuran remained unmoved. She felt as though her heart was now clearer than the nuns in the temple next door. She typed into the chat box: 【Handsome indeed, but still far beneath this lady’s beauty.】
Xu Jianwei responded with an ‘unbelievably speechless’ emoji and added, 【As you wish, sis will continue to enjoy her night.】
After closing the chat window with Xu Jianwei, Lin Yuran’s gaze fell upon Chi Ye’s profile picture—『A blazing fire burning within the darkness.』
She paused for two seconds before tapping on the image. The awkward conversation they had hours ago seemed even more ridiculous under the harsh light of day. Who could’ve expected that after six years, their first exchange would be filled with such nonsense?
She hesitated for half a minute at the delete contact button, pressing twice before ultimately canceling both actions. They likely wouldn’t cross paths again, so deleting him didn’t seem like a big deal either way.
Ever since adding Chi Ye, Lin Yuran hadn’t seen any posts from her, so she clicked back from the delete contact interface only to discover that the blank space wasn’t empty after all.
Lin Yuran clicked open his WeChat profile.
Chi Ye’s privacy settings allowed anyone to view all of his posts, but there hadn’t been any updates for years, aside from a business plan he uploaded two days ago regarding RanYe’s recruitment campaign.
Lin Yuran herself never opened a WeChat account, nor did she have the habit of scrolling through others’ feeds while busy making money, so even this single post had gone unnoticed by her until now.
After scanning the document briefly, Lin Yuran couldn’t help but sigh in admiration once again at RanYe’s ambition and determination.
She exited the recruitment plan and scanned the cover photo of Chi Ye’s WeChat profile.
It was an illustration of a nine-tailed white fox with amber eyes that were as delicate as snow, embodying both enchantment and cuteness, its posture proudly aloof.
Quite unique. She hadn’t expected Chi Ye to be interested in such art style, but upon further consideration, it wasn’t entirely out of character.
Although Chi Ye always presented himself as a well-dressed gentleman, Lin Yuran had never felt that was who he truly was. There was something unyielding and inherent about him, deeply ingrained within his bones, which could not be contained by mere buttons on his clothes.
Lin Yuran still didn’t understand why Chi Ye felt the need to restrain himself, nor did he ever seem to realize that it was futile.
Her thoughts drifted back to their first encounter, images of that day naturally surfacing in her mind.
The second half of Lin Yuran’s first year of high school had just begun.
During the first class of the morning, Lin Yuran slept peacefully on her desk until she felt someone tap heavily on it next to her. Struggling awake from her dream, Lin Yuran opened her eyes.
As soon as she lifted his head, she found herself meeting two sets of gazes—one was that of her homeroom teacher, Chen Wenli, carrying a hint of reproach amidst her usual sternness, but more importantly, overflowing with affection and pride.
The other belonged to a stranger whose gaze was unfamiliar, vacant, yet filled with glimmers of light.
That was the first time she’d seen Chi Ye.
The youth stood tall and slender, his broad shoulders held upright, casting a shadow perfectly large enough to cover her under his tall figure. His blue-white school uniform was clean and new, the zipper neatly pulled up to just the right height, and even the white shirt beneath was buttoned properly all the way to the top.
At first glance, he seemed obedient, but those deep-set eyes, fierce and unyielding, exposed his true nature.
“Lin Yuran, falling asleep during the first lesson of the day—aren’t you being rather disrespectful?” Chen Wenli chided, slightly sternly.
Lin Yuran yawned sleepily, too drowsy to respond, silently acknowledging this mistake through her silence.
Chen Wenli didn’t scold her further, instead turning to say, “This is a new transfer student who has just joined our class; his name is Chi Ye. He’ll be sitting beside you from now on, so please make room for your new classmate.”
Those who could enter Jinxi Third Middle School were all top students of their respective schools. Class 1 was the best class within the honors track, boasting the most experienced teachers and the strongest academic atmosphere. No student would want to miss out on this opportunity, so naturally, it also had the highest number of students.
The already cramped classroom was practically filled with desks, leaving only narrow pathways for movement.
Lin Yuran’s seat was at the very back row, squeezed right next to the wall, leaving no room for maneuvering. To enter his desk, Chi Ye needed to push aside the chair from the outer table.
Her former classmate struggled to adjust to life in Class 1 after desperately squeezing his way into the prestigious school, but ultimately couldn’t keep up with everyone else and mentally broke down, requesting to withdraw from the class almost as soon as they started. The sudden opening allowed Lin Yuran to take her spot.
She stood unhurriedly, kicked away her chair, took one step forward, and cleared a path for him.
“Thank you.” The voice was youthful yet mature, slightly deepened by a hint of roughness.
Quite courteous, indeed.
Lin Yuran glanced at him without responding; she didn’t feel like engaging, too exhausted to even think about socializing.
Chi Ye stepped closer, bringing with him a faint scent of cold wood mixed with a touch of soap beans that brushed past her face. For a moment, Lin Yuran felt as if she’d breathed in the crisp air atop a snowy mountain peak, unconsciously tilting her head upward to look at him, feeling the immense height difference weigh heavily upon her.
Only after wiping down the tables and chairs twice with disinfectant wipes did Chi Ye finally sit down. The cramped space left him little room to move around, forcing him tightly into the corner.
Lin Yuran felt inexplicably suffocated by this gesture.
Dead tired, Lin Yuran waited patiently for Chi Ye to settle before stepping into her seat, intending to continue sleeping.
But Chen Wenli grabbed her sleeve.
“If you’re sleepy, stand up and listen,” she said sternly.
