The Wind Heard Her Confession - Chapter 3: A Blinding Crush part 2
“Teacher, learning requires efficiency; forcing yourself to sit through class won’t help absorb much information,” Lin Yuran pouted, then added playfully, “Please, Teacher, I’ve studied ahead of today’s lesson already, so I know it all. Even if I do fall asleep, I guarantee no one can steal my number one spot.”
With that, Lin Yuran sat down without waiting for Chen Wenli’s permission. Feeling a burning gaze beside her, Lin Yuran turned her head slightly to look over.
The youth’s eyes were like ink, his eyelashes dark as crow feathers, and the faint curve at the corner of his lips was extremely attractive.
Lin Yuran blinked, then looked away.
Having little else to say, Chen Wenli turned toward the students who had gathered around them. “What are you looking at? If anyone could take her off the top spot, they’d be welcome to skip class or even stay home.”
The class scoffed collectively.
One student heckled, “Teacher, maybe we really aren’t worthy of her.”
From the front row, the boy sitting inside turned his body and leaned on the back seat with an impish grin as he spoke to Chen Wenli, “Teacher, if you let her sleep, I’d love nothing more than for her to nap a few more classes so I can be class president too and win some scholarships to strut around my dad.”
Lin Yuran shot him a glance, then said arrogantly, “Keep dreaming, the scholarship is mine.”
These words were incredibly conceited, yet they didn’t invite dislike because Lin Yuran truly deserved them. She was exceptional in every aspect—beauty, academics, talent, and intelligence—and everyone admired strength. On top of that, she had a pleasant personality and decent social skills; no matter how arrogant she sounded, people would still think it was well-deserved.
“Enough already,” Chen Wenli chided. “With Gu Jiaze’s grades, even if Lin Yuran dropped out, you wouldn’t have a chance. Hurry up and turn around to pay attention to your studies.”
The classroom erupted in laughter.
Gu Jiaze awkwardly turned his head away.
Out of courtesy to Chen Wenli, Lin Yuran sat upright for two minutes before leaning back against her chair and falling asleep again.
Lin Yuran slept with her head buried in her arms until noon, waking up to find the classroom completely empty—lunchtime had already passed.
Unexpectedly, someone was still sitting next to her.
The young man’s features were sharp and defined; a small mole rested on his high nose bridge, his lips pressed together, and clean lines framed his jawline, which softened his piercing gaze somewhat.
The temperature inside the classroom was quite warm during lunchtime, so he took off his school jacket, leaving only a white shirt layered beneath it. His attire looked refined and elegant, and he lounged casually in his seat, spinning a pen between slender fingers as he studied a textbook with a serious expression.
Noticing that Lin Yuran was staring at him, he straightened himself up, corrected his posture, and turned toward her with those pitch-black eyes.
As an art student, Lin Yuran prided herself on her keen eye for aesthetics, but the delicate features turned slightly away from her were like a visual treat—a gust of fresh wind to her soul. In this moment, she felt a twinge of guilt for affecting others’ sleep patterns.
Despite his proper demeanor, Lin Yuran could still sense the despondency within him. She cleared her dry throat and said, “I refuse to believe you don’t know that you can step on the table to get out.”
With that, she picked up the water cup on the table and rushed off to eat lunch.
In the afternoon, Lin Yuran stepped into class just as the bell rang.
She arrived at her seat, only to see Chi Ye’s tall figure squeezed between two desks with one of his legs sticking out, unable to fit inside. When he noticed her, he quickly pulled it back in.
To avoid another embarrassing situation like this morning, Lin Yuran suggested, “How about we switch seats?”
“No need,” Chi Ye replied curtly.
Lin Yuran wanted to say, Then if you’re not going to let me out, don’t call my name, but after some thought, she decided against it. It would make her seem unfriendly to the new student.
Since Chi Ye had declined, Lin Yuran left it at that. Only when she sat down did she realize something had changed on her desk—her books, which were previously slightly disorganized, were now neatly arranged; her pencil case was placed squarely on the upper right corner of the desk, and the surface was clean and spotless.
This hadn’t happened once during the first half of the term, so Lin Yuran reasonably assumed that Chi Ye had tidied up.
Well, she didn’t expect it from someone so refined and pampered who seemed like he wouldn’t do something like this.
But there was no other plausible explanation.
Lin Yuran tapped his fingers on the desk. “Thank you.”
The corner of Chi Ye’s lips lifted slightly as he said, “No need to thank me, I simply can’t stand disarray and moved your things without asking for permission. My apologies.”
Few words, no quarrels, courteous, clean… Lin Yuran felt more than satisfied with this new classmate.
After sitting through one whole class holding her head up, Lin Yuran could barely keep her eyes open anymore; she’d been unable to sleep at night these last few days, forcing her to make up for lost rest during class time.
She ended up falling asleep until after school, waking up only when Xu Jianwei came over to wake her up. The latter asked if they were still going to take their baths together tonight, reminding her to hurry up and wash herself because Qin Han would be leaving in thirty minutes.
Xu Jianwei left for the dormitory after waking her, saying she needed to get ready, while Lin Yuran slowly straightened herself out, rubbing her temples to wake herself up.
She turned her head to see that the person beside her was still quietly sitting there.
The tall figure leaned against the setting sun; even those sharp features seemed illuminated by its glow.
“You really can’t leave?” Lin Yuran asked him.
“I can.” Chi Ye pushed four notebooks toward her desk. “Here, your class notes for today.” Then he grabbed his backpack and jumped onto the table with one foot before leaping down into the corridor.
At the same time, the sunlight no longer blocked by the building spilled recklessly into Lin Yuran’s eyes.
Lin Yuran instinctively squinted. The harsh light drove away all of her remaining sleepiness.
Chi Ye took out a disinfecting paper towel, wiped the table clean, then looked at her with lowered lashes, lips curled into a bit of a mischievous grin. “Classmate Lin Yuran, see you tomorrow.”
