The Wind Heard Her Confession - Chapter 6: A Blinding Crush part 1
Lin Yuran stared at the stern man sitting across from her, feeling a bit bewildered. Wait, RanYe is such a big company. Does the CEO really need to handle this kind of thing personally?
Zhang Xin started by praising Lin Yuran’s design work. “Ms. Lin, your designs are incredibly creative. You’ve perfectly combined traditional cultural elements with a Chinese-style online game. This not only satisfies players’ desire to collect items but also subtly introduces young people to our country’s intangible cultural heritage. It’s great publicity for our company too. Your approach aligns well with why we created this game in the first place—to spread knowledge about China’s history and culture. Our ideas match up nicely.”
Zhang Xin smiled. “And the Nuwa character design is just stunning. You’ve kept her original attributes while seamlessly adding elements from Dunhuang’s flying celestial figures. It really brings out her godly nature!”
With Chi Ye present, Lin Yuran felt inexplicably nervous. Unsure what to say, she managed a polite smile in response to Zhang Xin’s compliments.
Chi Ye sat quietly without saying a word.
Only Xu Jianwei was there, exchanging flattery with Zhang Xin.
Zhang Xin praised them a bit more before getting down to business. He handed each of Lin Yuran and Xu Jianwei a copy of the ‘Collaboration Agreement’ and explained how it worked.
“What do you think about this plan? If there’s anything you want to change, feel free to say so,” Zhang Xin said.
Lin Yuran only cared about designing; she didn’t want to worry about these details. She skimmed through the agreement quickly but said nothing – though she was happy with the part about splitting profits.
Xu Jianwei read over the whole document carefully and smiled in satisfaction. “Big companies sure know how to handle things. We’re very pleased.”
“That’s good.” Zhang Xin grinned back. Then he tilted her head slightly toward Chi Ye. “But we have one small request.”
“Please go ahead,” Xu Jianwei said.
“We’d like for Designer Lin to come work at our office during the collaboration period,” Zhang Xin explained.
“What?” Lin Yuran exploded immediately.
The great thing about design work was that you could usually set your own hours. But now Grandma and Mom needed her all the time. There was no way she could sit in an office from nine to five every day. Before, she’d always taken her projects home or to the hospital. Most of her clients just wanted their designs on time. They didn’t care where they were made.
Besides, she was starting school at the end of August. She couldn’t sit in an office all day.
“Sorry, I don’t think working regular hours would work for me,” Lin Yuran said firmly.
Zhang Xin looked at Chi Ye, as if seeking instructions.
Seated in his chair, Chi Ye tapped long fingers on the table without sparing her a glance.
“This request is indeed unusual,” Zhang Xin admitted awkwardly. “But the Wuji Tournament holds special significance for our President Chi. He takes this collaboration very seriously. To make communication easier and avoid wasting time, it’d be best if you worked from our company offices. After all, Mr. Chi’s time is extremely valuable.”
Hearing this, Lin Yuran realized they expected her to interact directly with Chi Ye going forward. For some reason, she felt resistant to that idea.
“Isn’t everyone’s time valuable?”
Zhang Xin stumbled over these words, then forced a smile. “If there’s something about this arrangement that troubles Designer Lin, please tell us. We’ll do our best to find a solution.”
Lin Yuran didn’t want to hide anything either, but saying she had many personal matters to attend to might make them think she wasn’t committed to the partnership. After careful consideration, she could only mention her plans to study.
“I’m starting classes at Tsinghua University’s School of Art next month. If collaborating with your company means I have to neglect my studies, I’m afraid that won’t work out.”
“Here’s what we’ll do,” Chi Ye suddenly spoke up. “There’s still some time before you start school. Until then, you can work at our office without needing to punch a clock. If there are special circumstances, you can leave your workstation anytime, just as long as you’re available during regular hours.”
This concession left Lin Yuran momentarily speechless.
Zhang Xin added, “If you come to work in our office, we’ll give you a thousand yuan monthly transportation allowance and provide lunch and dinner.”
Lin Yuran silently calculated:
A thousand yuan for transportation each month. If she handled her own travel, that would be pure profit. With free meals included, it saved another big chunk of money. Overall, she could save nearly three thousand yuan per month this way.
“That works for me,” Lin Yuran agreed firmly.
Zhang Xin smiled. “Great! Let’s sign the contract then.”
Both parties swiftly signed their names on the document.
Zhang Xin asked, “So when is Designer Lin available to start working?”
“Time is precious, so let’s make it tomorrow,” Lin Yuran replied.
“Works for us,” said Zhang Xin.
With everything settled, Lin Yuran and Xu Jianwei stood up to say goodbye.
As they were leaving, Xu Jianwei patted Lin Yuran’s shoulder and chuckled, “I’m entrusting Beijian’s treasure trove designer to you guys now. Please treat her well, dear sugar daddy.” As she spoke, she shot a meaningful glance at Chi Ye.
Chi Ye raised his eyebrows slightly but said nothing.
Zhang Xin smiled. “Absolutely! Let’s work together well.”
leaving RanYe Hall, Xu Jianwei looked at Lin Yuran and burst out laughing. After a while, she said, “Ranran, I don’t believe Chi Ye didn’t recognize you. Why did they seem so deliberate just now?”
She paused for a second before saying firmly, “They were deliberately keeping you at their company.”
Xu Jianwei punched her left palm with her right fist, looking like she had suddenly realized something. “Could it be that Chi Ye still hasn’t forgotten about his old feelings for you and wants to use this collaboration to win you back?”
