The Wind Heard Her Confession - Chapter 7: A Blinding Crush part 1
After returning from the coffee shop, Lin Yuran couldn’t get back into her work groove.
Midway through, Chi Ye emerged from his office, passed by her desk, and took the elevator downstairs. A moment later, he returned and once again walked past her. He didn’t say a word to her.
Lin Yuran’s slightly suspended heart settled back down. She had been overthinking things just now.
She stared at the computer screen, chin propped up in one hand, and index finger occasionally tapping her cheek. She knew she wouldn’t be able to recover her previous work state anytime soon.
Glancing at the time on her computer, it was lunchtime. She was feeling a bit hungry anyway, so she turned off her monitor, planning to head to the restaurant on B1 for lunch.
As she waited for the elevator, she heard footsteps approaching from behind.
No need to guess. It was definitely Chi Ye; no one else was on this floor. Lin Yuran wondered if she should greet him.
Should I? From various standpoints, it seems like I should.
But how do I do it? What do I even say?
While she pondered this for half a minute, the steady footsteps came to a halt beside her.
Turning slightly, Lin Yuran smiled and said softly, “President Chi.”
Chi Ye visibly flinched for a moment before slipping his hands into his pockets and nodding briefly toward her.
The elevator stopped at their floor, and the two stepped in one after the other. Lin Yuran pressed B1 on the keypad, her finger lingering over the buttons as she glanced sideways at Chi Ye.
Chi Ye’s eyes flicked briefly over the B1 button before moving away. Lin Yuran understood his message and silently withdrew her hand.
The silence in the elevator was suffocating.
This eerie atmosphere made Lin Yuran feel like she wasn’t even hungry anymore.
Thankfully, the elevator moved quickly, with no one else getting on along the way. The torture didn’t last long; half a minute later, they reached B1.
It was her first time at the cafeteria, and Lin Yuran wasn’t sure where to go. After stepping off the elevator, she deliberately fell back two steps, walking behind Chi Ye.
As they approached the cafeteria, Lin Yuran was caught off guard by a man’s cheerful voice from inside.
“What a surprise! Chi Ye, I can’t believe I’m seeing you eat here!”
Lin Yuran turned towards the sound. A man named Qin Lang was making his way over to them.
Noticing Lin Yuran trailing behind Chi Ye, Qin Lang laughed. “Aiyo! So the famous Designer Lin really did join our company?”
She sensed something odd about his words.
Lin Yuran forced a polite smile. “Mm-hmm.”
Qin Lang grinned, enthusiastically inviting Lin Yuran. “Perfect! Let’s all eat together.”
“Our company cafeteria has a wide variety of dishes. What kind of food do you like?” he asked.
Lin Yuran was still recovering from the awkward atmosphere in the elevator. Even half a minute felt so uncomfortable. How could I enjoy eating with Chi Ye?
Just then, she spotted the milk tea stand at the entrance. “You two go ahead,” she said hastily. “I’m not really hungry. I just want to grab a cup of milk tea.”
She quickly walked up to the stand, picked out a random cup of milk tea, and turned back.
Qin Lang called after her, “Sure thing. We’ll have plenty of time to eat together later. Drop by my desk if you’re free sometime.”
Speechless at this man’s easy familiarity, Lin Yuran looked over her shoulder and replied politely, “Sounds good.”
Only when she sat down in the elevator did Lin Yuran let out a sigh of relief.
Back at her workstation, she gulped down the entire cup of milk tea in one go. It wouldn’t fill her up, but she was used to irregular meal times and knew it would hold her until dinner.
Putting aside any further thoughts, Lin Yuran powered on her computer and resumed her work.
Time blurred. She couldn’t tell if an hour or just thirty minutes had passed when the girl who’d greeted her earlier returned.
She carried a large bag of items, followed by two men in work uniforms who were carrying a cabinet.
The girl directed the men to place the cabinet at Lin Yuran’s workstation. As she put things inside it, she smiled and said to Lin Yuran, “I didn’t have time this morning. You’ve been working hard on your designs, so take some snacks.”
After filling the snack cabinet, the girl handed Lin Yuran a box of sushi. “This is for your afternoon tea.”
Lin Yuran took the sushi with surprise. “Wow! Your company really treats its employees well!”
The girl smiled. “I forgot to introduce myself earlier. I’m Li Xiang, President Chi’s secretary. If you need anything in the future, feel free to contact me directly. From your phone here, just press 2 to reach me.”
Lin Yuran gave her an okay sign.
“Well then, I won’t bother you anymore,” Secretary Li said politely as she left.
After Secretary Li departed, Lin Yuran got up and went to the snack cabinet.
It had been years since she last ate snacks. For most of that time, her life was so tough she barely had enough money to buy food. She couldn’t afford luxuries like snacks.
Staring at the cabinet crammed with snacks, Lin Yuran suddenly felt spoiled.
Still, she decided to eat the sushi first. As her gaze was about to leave the snack cabinet, it accidentally slid down one last time, catching sight of a paper box with an especially cute design.
Lin Yuran reached out and took that box off the shelf. Opening the packaging, she found inside a box of her favorite candy – Rainbow Starburst Lollipops.
She remembered buying these lollipops herself before she met Chi Ye. After they became friends, she stopped buying them on her own.
