- The Woman I Was Flirting With Turned Out To Be A Chaebol Heiress
- Chapter 4 - The Little Fish Got Away
Although she still had a nightmare last night, Li Nianyi felt that her body didn’t seem as tired as usual. Maybe it was the comfort of the bed that made the difference.
When she looked down and saw the hem of the black silk shirt she was wearing, she suddenly remembered the dream she had earlier one featuring herself and Jiang Ji. As the scenes of the dream resurfaced, Li Nianyi felt her cheeks heat up.
Sleeping in a bed full of Jiang Ji’s scent, wearing her clothes… even having a spring dream involving her didn’t seem all that inappropriate, right?
But the next second, her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.
A flat, emotionless voice came from outside:
“Nian Nian, are you awake? Can I come in?”
Hearing Jiang Ji’s voice snapped Li Nianyi out of her dreamy state. Just thinking about Jiang Ji’s usual cold demeanor, there was no way she could be as skillful and seductive as she was in that dream.
“I’m awake, come on in.”
Li Nianyi lifted the blanket and got out of bed, stretching as she did.
“Nian Nian, I just made breakfast. Do you want to eat in the room, or join me in the living ro”
Jiang Ji opened the door mid-sentence, but the moment she saw the woman inside bare legged and only wearing her shirt she instantly turned her eyes away like she’d been electrocuted.
This wicked woman!
Jiang Ji wanted to scold her some more, but she found her mind had already been filled with the image of what she had just seen.
Even though she was only wearing a single shirt, she hadn’t even bothered to button it properly. The loose collar half-revealed her collarbone. The contrast between the black shirt and her pale skin created a strong visual impact, making it impossible for Jiang Ji to look again.
“Why didn’t you get dressed before letting me in?”
“But you didn’t ask.”
“You! Forget it. There’s no point talking to you. Hurry and get dressed.”
Jiang Ji turned around, ready to flee like a nimble little fish darting back into its familiar waters. But Li Nianyi didn’t let her get away so easily and grabbed her sleeve.
The poor little fish was forced to suffocate at the edge of the shore.
“Boss Jiang, your ears are red. Are you blushing? Just because you saw me a little undressed?”
Li Nianyi, like a child who had just discovered a new toy, found everything about this woman amusing.
“We’re both women. What’s there to be shy about? Unless…”
She mischievously drew out her words, then suddenly leaned closer to whisper in Jiang Ji’s ear:
“Unless you like women?”
That sentence was like flipping a switch. Jiang Ji instantly yanked her sleeve out of Li Nianyi’s grip and nervously avoided the topic though even she didn’t quite understand why she felt guilty.
“I’m going to get the rice! You go wash up and change!”
The little fish had slipped away.
But the scent lingering on her fingertips remained.
And now, the smell of breakfast was wafting in too.
Smelling the food made Li Nianyi realize she was quite hungry.
To score another free meal from Jiang Ji, she decided not to tease her at least for now.
Although she had a feeling Jiang Ji was probably a good cook, she was still stunned when she sat down at the dining table.
This wasn’t just “pretty good” this was amazing!
“Boss Jiang, I didn’t expect you to not only be good at mixing drinks but also at cooking!”
This time, she wasn’t teasing she genuinely admired Jiang Ji’s skills. Slightly embarrassed by the praise, Jiang Ji’s lips nonetheless curved into a small smile.
“You haven’t even tasted it yet. How do you know it’s good?”
Li Nianyi glanced down at the steaming bowl of creamy white ham and mushroom soup and the golden, crispy cheese-and-egg toast in front of her. Then she glanced at Jiang Ji across the table, who still hadn’t taken off her apron.
“It smells this good. How could it possibly taste bad?”
She took a bite of the toast and found bacon hidden inside too!
So delicious!!
Being able to eat food this tasty what a blessing!
If she could eat Jiang Ji’s cooking every day, she wouldn’t mind living in a mansion and riding in luxury cars.
“I wasn’t sure about your tastes, so I just made something simple, the way I usually do… As long as you like it.”
“Like it? I love it! Jiang Ji, you’re amazing!”
Jiang Ji’s gentle smile deepened at Li Nianyi’s words. When she caught her reflection in the spoon, she paused in surprise.
So she could smile like that too?
“But it’s quite unexpected. I thought you’d be the kind of person who never has to lift a finger.”
In Li Nianyi’s mind, anyone living in a luxury high-rise must have a maid to cook. Yet here Jiang Ji was, doing everything herself.
“I’ve been used to being alone for a long time. Having strangers in the house makes me uncomfortable, so I prefer to do what I can myself.”
“Is that so… But I’m a stranger too, right? Why are you okay with me?”
Jiang Ji was speechless.
Although bringing Li Nianyi home had its reasons, thinking back on it… she really hadn’t minded Li Nianyi entering her personal space.
“You’re not a stranger anymore.”
Li Nianyi paused mid-sip. That sentence was unexpectedly pleasant to hear.
“Looks like I’m special to you too.”
“‘Too’?”
“Hehe~”
That’s strange. Wasn’t the soup supposed to be savory?
Why did it taste… a little sweet?
After the meal, Li Nianyi offered to wash the dishes to thank her for the amazing breakfast.
But in the end, Jiang Ji didn’t even let her touch the sink.
With gloves on, Jiang Ji became clumsy and awkward. The loose sleeves of her loungewear kept slipping down, and Li Nianyi stood beside her, helping to roll them back up.
She could feel the woman’s muscles tense up with each touch.
“I meant to say yesterday, your muscles are really well-defined.”
Li Nianyi recalled Jiang Ji’s arms while mixing drinks, the way the muscle lines showed when she used strength.
“I wanted to build muscle too, but between school and work, I never had time.”
Not to mention, Li Nianyi didn’t have the spare cash for a gym membership.
The woman in question froze momentarily.
“Yeah… It’s for work.”
Li Nianyi assumed she meant bartending, and suddenly jumped to another topic:
“Oh right! Speaking of work, I’ve been wondering are you a full-time bar manager now? Or are you also a student? You seem about the same age as me.”
“You think we’re the same age?”
Jiang Ji looked surprised.
“Aren’t we?”
“I’m twenty-seven.”
“Whoa…”
Li Nianyi recalled how she had been calling her a “little girl” in her head all day yesterday… Turns out she was four years older…
Wait.
That can’t be right.
If she’s a 27 year old big sister, why does she still blush when I tease her?
Aren’t big sisters supposed to be mature, composed, and experienced?
“Jiang-jie, are you sure you’re not lying to me?”
The sudden switch to calling her “Jie” (older sister) caught Jiang Ji off guard. She paused, then replied firmly:
“Why would I lie about something like that?”
At least when it came to age, she wasn’t lying. Nothing to feel guilty about.
“So, Jiang- jie… does that mean you’ve never been in a relationship?”
Jiang Ji nodded honestly.
Love had never seemed necessary to her. Besides, she’d never met anyone who made her want to fall in love.
“That’s kind of sad, isn’t it? Still a blank slate… and you just had to meet a bad woman like me.”
She hadn’t before. But now?
Li Nianyi took advantage of the fact that Jiang Ji’s hands were busy with gloves and foam, and boldly hooked a finger around the delicate necklace on Jiang Ji’s neck. With a little tug, she pulled her into an intimate distance, crossing the safety line.
Jiang Ji’s brain went into full alert.
She should push her away, but her hands were covered in soap bubbles. So she froze, letting the wicked woman do as she pleased.
She could feel the other woman’s scent slowly invading her senses, her heart clenched tight, then pounded heavily. Strange emotions stirred in her chest.
What was that?
Jiang Ji racked her brain, but couldn’t find the answer.
Suddenly, the other woman let go.
Jiang Ji felt like she’d fallen from the sky.
Looking at the teasing smirk on her face, Jiang Ji finally snapped back to reality.
Words someone once said to her started echoing in her ears. It stung.
With a sigh, they once said:
“But Nian Nian… you’re not a bad person.”
I am.
“What did you say?”
That murmur vanished into the air before Li Nianyi could catch it.
“Nothing… cough Are you heading somewhere later? I’ll drive you.”
“Jiang-jie, has anyone ever told you that you’re really bad at changing the subject?”
Jiang Ji: …
Luckily, Li Nianyi wasn’t one to dwell on trivial things.
She said, “I need to head back to campus later. There’s a visiting professor from Waseda coming this afternoon to give a lecture on AI and intimacy, which matches my current research. I can’t skip it.”
School was a mess. After what happened to Suzuki, she had more lab responsibilities. The police might call her at any time… and her part-time job situation was still unresolved. Although she had some savings, she couldn’t just keep spending without income.
Whether the heavens finally took pity on her or her luck had simply bottomed out and was now rebounding, Li Nianyi’s biggest worry suddenly had a turnaround.
Her phone buzzed with multiple notifications, cutting off her complaints. She read the messages carefully and her eyes widened in shock.
“Jiang Ji… I really hit the jackpot this time…”
