Chapter 2: Defective Product
The next day, the morning light seeped through the gaps onto the large, comfortable bed as time passed. The faint light fell on Shen Nian’s eyelids. The sunlight was a bit piercing, and he wanted to turn away from it, but his waist was held tightly, and he couldn’t break free no matter how he struggled.
Finally, he could only open his eyes and look at the large hand resting on his body. He stopped trying to push it away and instead stared at that hand.
Qi Jinnan’s fingers were long and strong, with faintly visible blue veins slightly protruding under the cool white skin, like extending branches full of vigorous life.
These hands were so beautiful. When playing the piano, they seemed to dance over each note with radiant fingertips. When turning the pages of a book, they showed an elegant and composed manner. Yet it was also these hands that often did things Shen Nian couldn’t resist.
He sighed lightly and carefully gripped Qi Jinnan’s wrist, about to move it away. At that moment, a deep, affectionate voice sounded from behind him, “Awake?”
Shen Nian turned back blankly, looking up to meet those light purple eyes.
Qi Jinnan’s eyes were the most beautiful he had ever seen. Although he had seen many good-looking superior beastmen in the laboratory, none of their eyes could compare to Qi Jinnan’s. The light purple pupils gleamed faintly in the scattered light, like the night glow of falling planets in light-years of the universe, too dazzling to look away from.
Seeing his lover by his side first thing in the morning, his heart felt as if it was filled with honey, sweet and content.
“Mm.” Shen Nian’s rabbit ears twitched lightly, his beautiful big eyes bright as he looked at Qi Jinnan.
Qi Jinnan reached out to pinch the soft white rabbit ears, a pleased curve to his lips.
He withdrew his hand, got up to put on his slippers, and started changing clothes. As he changed, he said, “I’m going to work soon. Remember to get along well with the piano teacher, don’t argue with the teacher anymore, and don’t mess with your little cakes, okay?”
Shen Nian blinked his eyes and nodded obediently, “Okay…”
“Get up now and make breakfast.” Qi Jinnan fastened the last button. His figure was already typically broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted, and now wearing this fitted gray pinstriped suit made him look dignified and steady.
“Mm!”
Shen Nian felt he could never tire of looking at Qi Jinnan. His chiseled face was even more handsome than those big-name celebrities. The phoenix eyes under his deep eye sockets, when filled with a smile, were surely the most affectionate sight. He had seen it; his sir’s smile was the most beautiful.
Shen Nian saw Qi Jinnan leave the room after getting ready, so he also got up to start his morning routine.
He looked at the clothes crumpled on the floor with some distress, picked them up, and put them in the laundry basket to wash later.
Just as he picked up his toothbrush and squeezed toothpaste on it, he noticed mottled red marks faintly visible on the inside of his wrist. Besides the red marks, there were also small, hidden needle holes on his wrist.
Seeing these needle holes, he immediately recalled something, and the drowsiness from just waking up dissipated. He was so frightened that his whole body trembled, and he even dropped the toothbrush holder on the ground.
He didn’t even brush his teeth, running downstairs with a ‘thump thump thump’, just in time to see Qi Jinnan standing at the entrance.
“Sir, sir…” He panted somewhat urgently, his eyes red as he looked at the man not far away.
Qi Jinnan turned to look at him, “What’s wrong?”
Shen Nian fidgeted with his fingers, and hesitated for a moment before slowly saying, “Sir, can I not have piano lessons today…”
Qi Jinnan raised his eyebrows, looking at him coldly, “Reason.”
“It’s… it’s… I can’t learn, I’m scared…” Shen Nian pressed his lips together, tears welling up in his eyes. He didn’t know how to explain that the piano teacher would prick him with needles.
Qi Jinnan frowned, watching the beastman rabbit in front of him mumbling and muttering, his little rabbit ears occasionally drooping backward. He felt a bit helpless and inexplicably irritated.
“Scared of what?”
After a moment, Shen Nian finally organized his words, “Because… I-I’m afraid of that teacher, he’s a bit fierce.”
“A strict teacher is good for you. At your current learning speed, when will I ever see results? Shen Nian, this is an opportunity I’m giving you. Your casual ‘I don’t want to learn’ is very disappointing to me. It even makes me feel that bringing you out of that beastman laboratory was a wrong decision.”
Qi Jinnan spoke these words half-threateningly, his tone cold and calm. As a long-time person in power, he knew too well how to manipulate people’s hearts.
Sure enough, as soon as these words were said, Shen Nian didn’t dare to mention not attending piano lessons again. His two little rabbit ears curled up in distress like cream Swiss rolls.
He was afraid of disappointing the sir, afraid that the sir would think bringing him home was a mistake, and might even abandon him. In this world, apart from the kind lab assistant grandmother, only the sir had been good to him.
If the sir abandoned him, he would have to return to the laboratory to take many medicines and receive many injections. Moreover, he couldn’t leave the sir; he wanted to be with the sir forever.
“Sir… Nian Nian isn’t a mistake. I’m very good, I’ll be obedient.” Shen Nian hurriedly stepped forward to grab Qi Jinnan’s hand, his watery big eyes revealing a hint of panic.
“That’s good. Practice the piano well.” Qi Jinnan removed Shen Nian’s hand and turned to leave the villa.
Shen Nian looked at the tightly closed door and lowered his head dejectedly.
Thinking about having to deal with the piano teacher later, his mind became even more chaotic. After all, the feeling of needles piercing through flesh and skin was too painful. If pricked deeply, one could faintly hear the terrifying sound of the needle stirring flesh and bone.
Although he had suffered a lot from this before when he was in the beastman laboratory.
Especially for a defective beastman product like him.
In his previous classes, the teacher had taught them that beastmen were toys for human amusement, the lowest in the entire social hierarchy, and defective beastman products were the very lowest. They were expensive commodities, but also the most base commodities.
Whether their status was noble depended on the buyer, not themselves, because everyone believed that beastmen could be recreated, so there was no need to cherish them too much.
But even as beastmen, they could feel pain and cry. However, in his memory, almost all buyers treated beastmen roughly. Therefore, he was always admiring and looking up to someone as gentle and strong as the sir.
After composing himself, Shen Nian hurried upstairs to wash up before the piano teacher arrived. Just as he finished washing up and was about to eat, the front door suddenly opened…
