Episode 9: A Beginner’s Guide to Adventuring Even a Slime Can Understand
I wondered, what is a “Slime” written on the rough paper surface?
Somehow, I thought it might be something so simple that even anyone, or even an idiot, could understand it?
A half-transparent, round, squishy creature floated up in my mind—maybe that’s what a Slime looks like.
I must’ve seen a Slime somewhere before.
Leaving the Slime aside for now, I read the adventurer’s guide.
It was a guide created by the Central Adventurers’ Guild in the capital of the Miliva Kingdom. It seemed it was handed out to those who registered as adventurers. But this one was quite old and worn.
Parts of it were torn and discolored. But handwritten notes and information had been added to it.
Most likely, John got it when he became an adventurer. And he had reread it from time to time and added things he noticed.
From what I read roughly, adventurers can register from the age of fifteen.
Children younger than that seem to be allowed to help out adventurers to a certain extent.
Somehow, an image of me gathering herbs with someone in the forest floated into my mind.
Maybe I helped an adventurer gather herbs before.
I probably saw a Slime in the forest too.
I couldn’t clearly remember the adventurer’s face—it was hazy like covered in fog.
Was it that guy who punched me and threw me in the trash…?
If that’s true, then why would he do such a thing?
Or was it someone else who did it?
I just can’t clearly remember.
Setting aside those hazy feelings for now, I finished reading the guide.
I keep having to set things aside. But until I can remember clearly, it can’t be helped.
Adventurer ranks start from the beginner rank G, and then go up F → E → D → C → B → A → S. They gradually rank up by completing requests from the Adventurers’ Guild and building a record of accomplishments.
Official registration is from fifteen years old… so I have to wait five more years…
Right in front of me, John Doe is showing his cold dead body. He is wearing a C-rank adventurer tag around his neck.
His body is sturdy, and his face looks stern. But even if you build up a record from beginner and rank up… when it’s time to die, you die, huh…
What a brutal world this is…
Hmm? I felt like I was viewing it all like someone else’s business. But this brutal world… it’s the one I was born and raised in, right…? Or is it not?
Maybe this thing called a “Wanderer” has something to do with it…
My stomach growled loudly. So I swallowed a piece of dried meat and bread with water that came out from the palm of my hand.
I started to feel sleepy. So I placed my right hand behind my head, and my left hand on the pit of my stomach.
I focused strongly and chanted the “Water Healing” I had read through appraisal.
Eventually, I fell asleep.
