Chapter 15 He’s So Scary. My back couldn’t help but press against the headboard.
The Quzhou cuisine Yang Shuheng had chosen was indeed delicious. Those who loved spicy food enjoyed it with great pleasure.
There were seven people at the table, and Guan Yu was surprisingly the one who could handle the spiciest food. Gu Shiying had to sit behind him, and the two of them had a profound exchange about spiciness.
The spiciness was so intense that Gu Shiying cried. Not only were his eyes red from the spiciness, but his lips were also red and swollen. He kept sipping iced drinks to soothe the spiciness.
Fu Huan watched him finish his second bottle of iced drink and silently poured him some water.
He asked Gu Shiying skeptically, “Are you sure you can handle spicy food?”
“Of course I can,” Gu Shiying pointed to the pile of leftover bones on his plate. “This is all the empire I built.”
Fu Huan looked at his lips, red and swollen from the spiciness, and said nothing.
There were seven people at the table. Aside from Liu Wenqing, who tried to maintain a ladylike demeanor in front of Fu Huan, whom she had a crush on, everyone else was enjoying their meal.
Zhang Zhi even competed with Guan Yu for the most fragrant stir-fried local pork with chili peppers.
“We’ll definitely come back to this restaurant next time! It’s so delicious!”
Yang Shuheng enjoyed the meal with everyone else, and his mood had largely improved. He also began to show some concern for others, especially the only girl among them.
“Liu Wenqing, you don’t like spicy food, right? Do you want dessert? I see they have red bean sorbet.”
Hearing this, Gu Shiying remembered his “secret crush” on Liu Wenqing. Although he wasn’t very observant, Liu Wenqing had indeed not touched her food much tonight. He also knew from Zhang Zhi that Liu Wenqing liked sweets, but he was embarrassed to ask for something from a girl.
Gu Shiying said considerately, “Miss Liu gets one, and I want one too.”
Guan Yu: “I want one too.”
Yang Shuheng: “Then let’s all have one.”
Only Fu Huan glanced at Gu Shiying indifferently and said, “Don’t count mine.”
Liang Qi: “I’m not eating either, you guys have yours.”
Gu Shiying wasn’t particularly fond of sweets and usually avoided them, but today was an exception. He had his own persona to maintain.
Except for the two of them, everyone else enjoyed the icy cold red bean ice cream.
Gu Shiying tasted it and found it truly delicious. Not too sweet, and it helped to alleviate the spiciness, making it feel much better.
Spicy and icy, a truly delightful combination.
This meal washed away all the fatigue and negativity of the day.
There were classes tomorrow, and Yang Shuheng offered to pay, but in the end, Fu Huan settled the bill early.
Fu Huan appeared uninterested and aloof, but he was still considerate of others.
After they walked two hundred meters from the restaurant, Yang Shuheng remembered he had forgotten to pay.
Liang Qi patted him, “Our Brother Huan already paid.”
Yang Shuheng, “I agreed to treat.”
Fu Huan glanced at Gu Shiying, who was walking with Liu Wenjing, and said, “It’s not much. You can treat next time.”
Yang Shuheng was moved by his roommates and had an idea: he could buy gifts for those who had cared for him during his most difficult times.
Gu Shiying had deliberately walked with Liu Wenjing.
He had also noticed the way Liu Wenjing and Zhang Zhi interacted: she treated Zhang Zhi as a friend, while Zhang Zhi carried on with a deep, secret crush.
What a coward.
She told him every day how to pursue someone, but after all this time, he was still just friends with them, with no progress at all.
Passing by the school supermarket, Fu Huan headed in, and Liu Wenjing followed. Gu Shiying, wanting to complete his persona, inevitably followed suit. Seeing his secret crush and best friend both gone, Zhang Zhi inexplicably followed suit.
In the end, only Liang Qi and the other two were left, and they followed in.
After Yang Shuheng had a blast in the supermarket’s air conditioning, he asked Guan Yu, “Why did we come in?”
Guan Yu: “I don’t know. I saw them coming in, so I came in too.”
Gu Shiying certainly hadn’t come on his own accord, nor did he have anything he wanted to buy. Seeing the freezer nearby, he was still a little lingering over tonight’s red bean smoothie, so he grabbed a red bean popsicle and asked the others if they wanted one too.
Zhang Zhi: “I’m not eating anymore. I’m so full.”
Gu Shiying then asked Liu Wenjing, who had wanted to follow Fu Huan in, “Beautiful lady, how about you?”
Liu Wenjing smiled: “Thank you, I’m not eating anymore either.”
Yang Shuheng and the others also refused to eat, so Gu Shiying finally nibbled on one himself.
Fu Huan came in to buy cigarettes and saw Gu Shiying’s smile at Liu Wenjing, but he still paid for Gu Shiying’s popsicle as well.
Gu Shiying insisted, “I’ll transfer it to you.”
“Whatever.” Fu Huan accepted the payment in a split second, his fingers tapping softly on his phone screen.
On the way back, the seven of them split up and walked in different directions.
Fu Huan and Liang Qi disappeared while walking. Gu Shiying, Yang Shuheng, and Guan Yu went straight back to the dorms, while Zhang Zhi found an excuse to walk Liu Wenjing back to the girls’ dormitory.
Everyone was exhausted after a day’s work; some showered, some sat in a daze, and some played with their phones.
Gu Shiying felt sleepy after his shower and fell asleep while playing with his phone in bed.
At one in the middle of the night, Gu Shiying was awakened by a sharp pain in his stomach.
Without even opening his eyes, he hurried out of bed to the bathroom by the dim light of his phone screen. Less than half an hour after his first visit, he was about to go to bed again when his stomach started to ache again. This cycle continued, and he went several times throughout the night, nearly collapsing.
He barely slept in the second half of the night, frequently visiting the bathroom and vomiting twice.
He poured himself some water, but it was cold. After a sip, the nausea returned, and he ran to the bathroom to vomit twice.
At three in the morning, he went to the bathroom again. This time, he didn’t have his phone with him, and he lost his footing on the steps, nearly falling. Fortunately, he found Fu Huan’s desk and was fine. However, he did manage to knock over the lamp on Fu Huan’s desk, and before he could catch it, it made a loud noise.
When Gu Shiying emerged from the bathroom again, Fu Huan was just getting out of bed.
Fu Huan lowered his voice, “What’s wrong with you? I just heard you keep going to the bathroom.”
Gu Shiying sank weakly into his chair and said, “Diarrhea. Maybe I ate something wrong tonight.”
Fu Huan: “You’re amazing at mixing cold, hot, spicy, and icy food together.”
Gu Shiying knew Fu Huan was being sarcastic, but he still had to argue: “I used to eat this way and it was fine.”
Fu Huan turned on the desk lamp, turning it to the dimmest, and lowered his head to put on his shoes.
“You’ve been eating lightly lately because of your cold. Suddenly eating something so heavy is not going to work. You might have acute gastroenteritis.” He retrieved his keys from the drawer. “Change your clothes. I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Gu Shiying was in pajamas. “What?”
Fu Huan: “Go to the hospital. Are you planning to die in your dorm?”
“No,” Gu Shiying replied weakly. He was truly on the verge of collapse.
Fu Huan saw that he looked completely dazed when he left, and even went to his bed to retrieve his phone and coat, which he had left behind. Fu Huan’s dark eyes darkened as he asked, “Can you still walk?”
“Yes,” Gu Shiying said, feeling even weaker.
Fu Huan had no habit of lecturing others, so he promptly took Gu Shiying to the nearest hospital. Gu Shiying didn’t want to talk at all, not even asking why the car he drove was different this time.
They went straight to the emergency department, which was surprisingly packed even at night, with no room to sit.
Fu Huan found a wheelchair for him while they were waiting in line.
Fu Huan: “Sit here.”
Gu Shiying’s lips paled as he said stubbornly, “Isn’t that ridiculous? I can actually stand…”
“Does your stomach still hurt?” Fu Huan pushed him onto the chair with a force that Gu Shiying couldn’t resist now.
Gu Shiying sat down obediently: “It hurts.”
Fu Huan: “Then sit.”
“Okay.” Gu Shiying didn’t dare to say a word. Fu Huan was a bit assertive now, but he knew he was doing it for his own good.
He was truly miserable, not wanting to talk much. His body felt limp. He couldn’t lean against the chair, so he tried to find a place to lean against it, but the walls were either occupied by people or filled with equipment.
“Lean on me,” Fu Huan stood behind him, pushing Gu Shiying against him, letting him rest against his abdomen.
Gu Shiying leaned his ear against Fu Huan’s abdomen, feeling strange but unwilling to move. His entire body was filled with discomfort.
After a while, Gu Shiying tried to distract himself by saying, “Your abdomen is still quite hard.”
Fu Huan: “…”
The nurse came over, called their number, and handed Gu Shiying a thermometer.
“Take it first. Give it to the doctor when your number is called.”
“Okay.”
Gu Shiying had no choice but to hold the thermometer. He touched his forehead, unsure if he had a fever.
Finally, his number was called.
He had a low-grade fever, diarrhea, and vomiting. The diagnosis was acute gastroenteritis.
The doctor ordered an IV drip and arranged a makeshift bed for him.
Gu Shiying lay in bed, hooked up to the IV, while Fu Huan ran around for him, even fetching him a paper cup of hot water.
Perhaps exhausted and with a slight fever, Gu Shiying fell asleep while on the IV.
When he woke up, the hospital windows were flooded with sunlight. There was a needle in the back of his hand, but the IV was no longer running.
Gu Shiying: “Did I sleep for a long time?”
Fu Huan: “Not bad, just three hours.”
Gu Shiying: “I should be fine now. My stomach doesn’t hurt anymore, and my fever shouldn’t be.”
Fu Huan reached out and touched his forehead: “Indeed.”
Gu Shiying: “Don’t…” touch.
It was too late.
[Gu Shiying doesn’t know this, but my second brother is actually harder than his abs.]
Gu Shiying: ???
What?
It took him two seconds to realize what was happening. Fu Huan, that pervert! He’d just praised his abdomen at four in the morning.
He truly regretted his careless words. If he said one more, he’d have the doctor sew his mouth shut.
What the hell was going through Fu Huan’s mind? This idea had definitely not just come to him. How could he have allowed it to linger in his mind for so long?
Starting tomorrow, he would not only wear his coat, but also his hat and gloves.
Seeing Gu Shiying staring blankly at him, Fu Huan waved his hand in front of him and leaned forward. “Still awake?”
Gu Shiying’s gaze swept over his lower abdomen, and her back involuntarily pressed against the headboard, trying to press herself into the wall.
He was so scary!
