Chapter 25 I don’t want to know! Gu Shiying, I want to pursue you…
Saturday, rainy.
Fu Huan had an appointment with the psychologist at 9:00 AM, and the three of them were up early. Even Guan Yu, who was still asleep, didn’t notice the new child in their dorm.
Gu Shiying and Fu Huan tacitly agreed not to mention the matter, and Guoguo remained silent, arriving and leaving quietly.
On the way, they found a breakfast shop and fed Guoguo.
Children who aren’t noisy, aren’t picky eaters are good; they’ll eat whatever you give them.
It suddenly started raining as they were leaving, and there was only one umbrella in the car.
Gu Shiying held Guoguo, while Fu Huan held the umbrella, tilting one end toward them. The drizzle wet Fu Huan’s left shoulder, but he was content to let it soak.
Back in the car, Gu Shiying sat in the back seat, holding Guoguo, checking to see if the child was wet. He would be guilty if she got sick.
After a while, he suddenly asked Fu Huan, “By the way, did you bring Guoguo’s medical records?”
Fu Huan: “Yes.”
Gu Shiying felt relieved.
Suddenly, something felt off. His conversation with Fu Huan had just sounded like an old married couple. Weren’t they now like a couple with a child going to the hospital?
Sh1t, think hard. Stop adding drama to your and Fu Huan’s lives.
The psychologist Fu Huan had scheduled an appointment with ran a private clinic, but not the small one Gu Shiying had imagined. Instead, it occupied an entire floor in a high-rise building in Beijing, where every inch of land is valuable.
Gu Shiying was a little nervous. He told Fu Huan what he was thinking at the moment: “I thought he was a doctor from a tertiary hospital.”
Private hospitals are often admired abroad, but in China, they’re often associated with high costs and inferior technology.
Fu Huan explained, “Dr. Jiang used to work at a tertiary hospital, but later opened his own private clinic.”
Gu Shiying: “He must be quite impressive to be able to go it alone.”
Fu Huan: “You’ll understand when you meet him later.”
The nurse at the front desk saw them looking at Fu Huan: “Fu…”
Fu Huan, standing behind Gu Shiying, shook his head, and the nurse then said, “Do you two have an appointment?”
Fu Huan: “Yes.”
The nurse smiled faintly: “Then please follow me.”
She inquired about their appointment status and, without waiting, led them to a warm and spacious room. A desk bore Dr. Jiang’s nameplate and some simple, stylishly designed ornaments.
As soon as they sat down, refreshments were brought in. Even Guoguo relaxed a little, as if bathed in sunshine.
Gu Shiying didn’t touch the refreshments, but Fu Huan casually took a sip of the black coffee that was brought in.
A moment later, a man in his thirties, wearing glasses, walked in. He was well-dressed, dressed neatly in a black shirt and black trousers. He was also quite tall, almost as tall as Fu Huan.
Dr. Jiang walked up to Fu Huan and asked, “Are you here?”
“Yes.” Fu Huan stood next to him, and Gu Shiying noticed that Fu Huan was taller.
Dr. Jiang had a friendly smile, and his height wasn’t intimidating.
He smiled and asked Gu Shiying, “What’s your name, little student?”
Gu Shiying: “Hello, Dr. Jiang. My name is Gu Shiying, and this is Guoguo.”
“Hello, Fu Huan told me about Guoguo.” Dr. Jiang knelt in front of Guoguo and raised his hand to produce a toy. “Guoguo, here’s a little gift for you.”
Dr. Jiang’s interaction with Guoguo was essentially a preliminary diagnosis, assessing his reflexes, his awareness of the outside world, and whether he truly had autism.
Guoguo was responsive and gave Dr. Jiang a good response, but he seemed to periodically glance back at Gu Shiying and Fu Huan, subconsciously demonstrating his dependence on them.
Dr. Jiang continued, “He’s sensitive to the outside world. He can stay with me for a while. However, since you’re not his parents, it would be best if they come with him next time.”
Gu Shiying explained, “His grandmother is the only one left at home. Her leg injury prevents her from walking, so she should be able to come next time.”
Dr. Jiang nodded. “I think he’s receptive to the outside world. Try taking him out more often to interact with children his age. His condition is post-stress trauma, and more social activities and family activities will help alleviate his memory. It shouldn’t be a big problem. I’m confident he can recover to the level of a normal child.”
His words reassured Gu Shiying, “That’s great.”
Dr. Jiang looked at Fu Huan again. “Today is the initial contact and diagnosis. I’ll first develop a treatment plan based on his condition.”
Gu Shiying understood. After all, they weren’t Guoguo’s parents, so a guardian would still be necessary, but that was enough.
The initial consultation was over.
Just as Gu Shiying thought they should leave, Dr. Jiang stopped Fu Huan.
“Fu Huan, wait a minute. I want to talk to you.”
Gu Shiying looked at Fu Huan. “Guoguo and I will wait outside.”
Dr. Jiang arranged for Gu Shiying and Guoguo to wait in the lounge.
Gu Shiying wasn’t sure what Dr. Jiang and Fu Huan would say, but he felt their relationship wasn’t as simple as he’d imagined; it seemed they were quite familiar.
Since they were able to provide free treatment to Guoguo, they must have known each other, right?
Unable to figure out their relationship, Gu Shiying took Guoguo to the bathroom before returning to the lounge.
The lounge had a relaxing layout, with a children’s toy area. Guoguo took a liking to building blocks, so Gu Shiying put him there to play. He then used his phone to research autism. Halfway through, he heard someone arguing outside. The noise was getting louder and louder, almost disturbing.
Gu Shiying had no idea when Fu Huan would emerge, so he left the lounge door open. He wanted to block out the noise outside and prevent Guoguo from getting alarmed.
As he reached the door, he saw a middle-aged woman with tangled hair raise her hand and slap the nurse on the shoulder.
Smack!
“I’ve spent so much money on your services, and my son isn’t reacting at all!”
“You call them famous doctors? They’re all scams!”
“Give me back!”
“Have your Dr. Jiang come out and see me. My son cut his wrists again today and was hospitalized. It wasn’t as serious before he came, but it’s gotten worse since he came here for counseling. You’re a complete scam. Everyone, listen up! Dr. Jiang is a complete quack. He’s only killing people. He has no medical ethics, and he charges exorbitant fees. Run away now, you new here!”
The middle-aged woman cursed as she headed towards Dr. Jiang’s office. Fu Huan was still inside.
Gu Shiying glanced at Guoguo, who was immersed in building blocks, and closed the door.
The nurse who had been struck was visibly hurt, but she stepped forward to stop the man, determined by her professional ethics.
“Ms. Tang, Dr. Jiang is currently seeing patients. Could you please calm down? He’ll be out soon.”
“I don’t care if he’s seeing patients or not. I want an explanation right now! My son is still in the hospital, his life in jeopardy. Pay me!”
Gu Shiying had been hearing her insist that paying money wasn’t the same as paying his life. This woman was quite determined, but taking her anger out on others was wrong. The nurse had received a slap for no reason.
The middle-aged woman knew exactly where Dr. Jiang’s office was and headed straight for it.
The doctors and nurses in the clinic were busy with their own tasks, and no one was quick to react and stop the woman.
Gu Shiying spoke to the nurse, “Call security!”
The nurse, her eyes red, said, “I just went downstairs to help move something, and I haven’t come back up yet.”
Gu Shiying saw Ms. Tang about to rush to the clinic and swing her iron-clad palm at the nurse again. He raised his hand to stop her, pinning her hand.
“Auntie, my friends are still in there. Please don’t disturb them.”
“None of your business! Get out of my way!”
“Let go, or I’ll sue you for sexual harassment!”
Gu Shiying had never seen such an unreasonable person, so he let go of her hand, and the nurse was out of reach.
Although he had let go of the aggressive Ms. Tang, Gu Shiying could still hear her inner voice.
“I know what my son is like, and it’s impossible to cure him. Every psychologist who treats my son will become our family’s ATM, extorting as much as they can. Just as Ms. Tang was about to charge forward, the man she was threatening didn’t tactfully step aside as she’d hoped.
Gu Shiying continued to stand in front of her: “Are you here to extort money? Your son is incurable. You know the reason best.”
He could only hear the other man’s inner voice, the most intense of his desires. The details of how Ms. Tang manipulated her son’s condition were absent from his thoughts.
Ms. Tang’s inner plans were suddenly exposed by Gu Shiying, and she was stunned: “What nonsense are you talking about? Are you saying I’m making fun of my son’s illness?”
Gu Shiying distanced himself from her: “I don’t know, but your behavior now looks very much like blackmailing Dr. Jiang.”
Ms. Tang, struck at her heartstrings, feigned composure and sneered: “Ha, he charged me so much for medical treatment, consultations, and registration fees, and my son’s symptoms haven’t improved, but worsened. And I’m extorting him? Young man, if you don’t understand, get out of here!”
She waved at Gu Shiying, seemingly entering a state of rage again. Gu Shiying was almost slashed in the face by her long nails. It was quite scary.
At that moment, the door behind him suddenly opened, revealing two tall men standing on either side.
One was Dr. Jiang, and the other was a young man who looked calm but exuded a murderous aura.
Ms. Tang, who stood nearly 5 feet 4 inches tall, felt her aura weaken, and she took a step back in fear.
Dr. Jiang was known for his good temper, but now he withdrew his gentle demeanor. “Ms. Tang, if you have anything to say, please sit down and talk.”
Ms. Tang’s arrogant and rude demeanor weakened, and her words became unsteady.
“Jiang, Dr. Jiang, my son has cut his wrists again. Your treatment is ineffective. You have to compensate me!”
Dr. Jiang hadn’t wanted to discuss his patient’s condition in front of others, but he had heard Gu Shiying’s retort to Ms. Tang.
If it weren’t for Gu Shiying’s words, he might have believed Ms. Tang today and might have been blackmailed.
Dr. Jiang, who opened his own private clinic, was certainly not someone to be trifled with.
“Did you give your son your medicine on time? I remember Xiao Wu told me last week that he’d finished his medication last week, but you didn’t come to get this week’s worth. This means he’s been missing medicine for a week now. His condition is already serious, and your disobedience is putting us in a difficult position.”
At this moment, Fu Huan walked from behind Dr. Jiang to Gu Shiying’s side and whispered, “Let’s go.”
Dr. Jiang will handle the hospital’s affairs, so there’s no need for them to get involved.
Gu Shiying: “Yeah.” Guoguo was still in the lounge.
Fu Huan frowned and looked at him unhappily. “Did you almost get scratched just now? Don’t be so nosy next time.”
Gu Shiying retorted, “How am I nosy? Didn’t you see that nurse was beaten to tears? It would be unreasonable not to help. Besides, Guoguo’s treatment is free, so it’s not a big deal.”
Fu Huan sighed helplessly and gave him a thumbs-up. “Next time, don’t rush out when I’m not around. You never know who you might run into. You need to consider the consequences.” ”
Gu Shiying: “Why are you still lecturing me?”
“Shouldn’t you be lecturing? Wherever there’s danger, there you are, Mr. Gu.” Fu Huan didn’t mean to be rude, but seeing Gu Shiying putting himself in danger through his kindness, his tone became even more serious.
Gu Shiying felt as if he always ran into this kind of negative person, but there was nothing he could do.
“It was just a coincidence.”
“Next time, remember to call me. At least I’m better at fighting than you, so you can avoid the losses.”
“We’ll talk about it next time.”
Gu Shiying didn’t dare agree. What did Fu Huan think of him? Wouldn’t helping him a few more times mean he’d be coerced into marrying him one day? He didn’t want that!
He still owed three meals, so he might as well take advantage of this opportunity to grab one.
Gu Shiying: “I’ll treat you to lunch.”
Fu Huan was silent for a second. “I’ll take you and Guoguo home later. I have something to do at noon, so I can’t have lunch with you.” ”
Gu Shiying asked naturally, “What’s up?” Then he wanted to slap himself. “You’re so quick to speak.”
Fu Huan: “My mom asked me to come home for dinner.”
“Your family’s local?” Gu Shiying realized then that Fu Huan was actually from Beijing. Fu Huan was so low-key, he’d always assumed he was from out of town.
“Yeah.” Fu Huan didn’t say much about his family.
Fu Huan walked Guoguo back to Grandma Lin’s house. They explained what Dr. Jiang had mentioned about the need for a parent to accompany the child. Afterward, Gu Shiying asked Grandma how much chili sauce she could produce per week. He and his classmates offered to help promote it. Grandma Lin agreed, offering to give them a share.
On the way back, Gu Shiying began editing a promotional message for Grandma Lin’s chili sauce on his WeChat Moments.
He had just written the line “lips and teeth lingering with fragrance” when Fu Huan suddenly called out, “Gu Shiying.”
Gu Shiying: “What?”
Fu Huan pulled out a blue-patterned box from somewhere and handed it to him. “This is for you.” ”
Gu Shiying was stunned. He chose to refuse the gift: “I won’t accept it if I haven’t done anything for it. Why are you giving me a gift?”
Fu Huan’s face fell. He grabbed his hand and pressed the gift into his palm: “It’s a gift for becoming a disciple. I must accept it.”
What a plausible excuse! If Gu Shiying hadn’t heard the burning voice of his heart piercing his wrist.
[Gu Shiying, I want to pursue you, okay?]
Fu Huan quickly released Gu Shiying’s hand, but Gu Shiying still held the gift.
He glanced at the gift again and again: “…”
Damn it, Fu Huan, I don’t want to know!
