Chapter 34 Under the Fireworks Gu Shiying, I hope you like me. …
Sea breeze, windmills, beach—this is the kind of treatment you only get on a graduation trip.
Gu Shiying wanted to step onto the sand, but he was wearing sneakers.
The beach was sparsely populated, so he looked at Fu Huan: “Can I take my shoes off?”
Fu Huan: “Sure.”
Gu Shiying didn’t want to play alone; that would make him seem childish.
He wasn’t picky at all and sat down on the sand to take off his shoes: “You take yours off too. I can’t play by myself.”
Fu Huan took off his shoes and socks, placing his shoes next to Gu Shiying’s.
He walked alongside Gu Shiying on the sand.
Gu Shiying hadn’t been to the beach since he was very young; his memories were very vague. He only remembered the feel of his feet on the soft sand.
He walked on the sand until the waves washed over him, the seawater lapping at his feet, making Gu Shiying shrink back slightly.
Gu Shiying: “Wow, this water is so cold!”
Fu Huan: “It’s not really summer yet, the weather isn’t very hot. Don’t stay in the water too long, you’ll catch a cold.”
Gu Shiying: “Don’t worry, I’m in great shape.”
Fu Huan smiled: “Really?”
Gu Shiying: “Your smile sounds a bit skeptical.”
Fu Huan: “No, you’re in great shape.”
Gu Shiying pressed him, pointing to the sea: “Then say to the sea, ‘Gu Shiying is a muscular man.'”
Fu Huan: “You wouldn’t look good as a muscular man.”
Gu Shiying thought that was perfect; he’d heard that gay tops didn’t like muscular men.
He kicked at the spray that hit his feet: “And you know what my aesthetic standards are?”
Fu Huan: “Abs, some lean muscle, but not a protein powder muscular man, that’s about my standard.”
Gu Shiying squatted down and looked at him sideways: “You’re so narcissistic.”
Fu Huan: “Isn’t it?” He was certain.
Gu Shiying laughed and splashed seawater at him: “Detective Fu, I do envy your physique, but that doesn’t stop me from letting you call Gu Shiying a hunk.”
Fu Huan stepped forward, put his hands to his lips, and shouted towards the sea: “Gu Shiying is a hunk!”
Gu Shiying really didn’t expect Fu Huan to have no idol baggage at all; he felt he didn’t know Fu Huan well enough.
He was about to burst out laughing.
Gu Shiying never expected that Fu Huan, who usually seemed so aloof, would actually shout like that at the sea.
Fu Huan turned back and asked him, “Satisfied?”
Gu Shiying nodded: “Very satisfied. Then I’ll shout one for you too. What do you want to shout?”
Fu Huan suddenly looked at Gu Shiying and fell silent. Gu Shiying thought, “Oh no! I was too excited just now. What if Fu Huan asked me to shout ‘I like you’?”
“May everything go smoothly for us, and may we live to be a hundred!”
Gu Shiying was stunned, staring blankly at Fu Huan, as if he had been too narrow-minded.
Fu Huan chuckled, “What’s wrong? Not fashionable enough to say?”
Gu Shiying: “No, I just like your blessing. I didn’t expect it.”
Fu Huan, unusually urging him, said, “Say it already.”
Gu Shiying stood up: “I’ll say it! I’ll say it! Wishing us all the best, long lives, and everything getting better and better!”
There were so many things to do on the beach.
Gu Shiying took dozens of photos at low tide. After finishing, he wanted to collect some seashells to take home, but the tide was coming in, and it was starting to get dark.
This wasn’t a popular tourist spot, so there weren’t many tourists. Once it got dark, only the streetlights were still on; everything else was quite dark.
He said regretfully, “Ah, we can’t collect seashells.”
Fu Huan anticipated his disappointment: “We can come back tomorrow morning to watch the sunrise.”
“Okay, okay,” Gu Shiying said, realizing something was off, “Watching the sunrise? Then we’re not going back to school tonight?”
Fu Huan told him matter-of-factly, “It’s a three-hour drive back, I’ll be tired, I don’t want to drive.”
Gu Shiying knew exactly what he was thinking: “Then where are we staying tonight?”
Fu Huan: “I’ve already booked a room, a guesthouse nearby.”
Gu Shiying was impressed by his speed: “When did you book it?”
Fu Huan: “On the way here.”
“You booked it pretty quickly.” Gu Shiying tugged at his clothes, sweating profusely from playing around. He could tolerate it in winter, but in this weather, he’d smell of sweat. “We didn’t bring any clothes.”
Fu Huan: “Don’t worry, I bought some.”
Gu Shiying remembered: “You already knew you wouldn’t be going back tonight before you went to the clothing store?”
Fu Huan didn’t want to say that he’d decided to stay out so quickly; he just wanted to be with Gu Shiying.
“Hmm. There’s a whole street of barbecue restaurants near our guesthouse.”
Gu Shiying: “You changed the subject a bit abruptly.”
Fu Huan didn’t mind that he noticed his change of topic: “There’s a really delicious barbecue place, and they also have incredibly authentic oyster omelets, so soft and fragrant.”
Gu Shiying was successfully tempted: “Okay, then I’ll reluctantly stay for one night.”
Fu Huan reached out and gently ruffled his hair: “You’re getting all haughty now. Get in the car, young master.”
Gu Shiying glanced at him sideways: “Don’t mess up my hair.”
Fu Huan didn’t detect his displeasure: “The sea breeze messed it up, I’ll smooth it out for you.”
Gu Shiying: “Just kidding.”
Five minutes later, Fu Huan drove to the nearby guesthouse area. This area was much livelier than the windmill area, with many guesthouses. It seemed to be a converted fishing village, with a pier that was clearly visible near the sea.
The village was built along the sea, perched on a mountain. The road they came from was actually above the village, while the village itself was below the road. Cars could drive right up to the guesthouse entrances. However, upon arriving at the guesthouse, Gu Shiying received some bad news.
The landlady apologized, “I’m so sorry, my husband made a mistake with the room type today. He gave you a double room. Do you mind?”
Gu Shiying: “Don’t you have any double rooms?”
He wouldn’t mind sharing a room with Fu Huan, but sharing a bed was a problem. They usually shared a bedroom, not a bed!
The landlady apologized again, “Really, we don’t have any. I’m so sorry. Can I reduce the price for you?”
Fu Huan: “How about we change guesthouses?”
The landlady said, “It might be a bit late to change now. We have a fireworks event at the beach these days, and many tourists have come. The rooms in the surrounding area are probably all booked.”
Gu Shiying: “Then we’ll stay here?”
Fu Huan actually wanted to change rooms even more than Gu Shiying; he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to control himself.
Ever since realizing his feelings for Gu Shiying grew stronger each day, he rented an apartment. Every weekend, if his two roommates weren’t around, he’d stay out, afraid he wouldn’t be able to control his urge to be close to Gu Shiying.
Today, he’d considered sharing a room, not sleeping in the same bed, but he hadn’t expected the landlord to make such a mistake with the room type.
Fu Huan: “As long as you don’t mind.”
Gu Shiying could only retort, “We’re both grown men, what’s wrong with sharing a bed? It’s just one night.”
It was quite painful not being able to openly acknowledge Fu Huan’s feelings for him.
And so, they ended up sharing a double room.
Gu Shiying feigned nonchalance: “Shall we go eat first?”
Fu Huan: “The fireworks on the beach start at seven, that’s half an hour away.”
Gu Shiying: “How about we watch the fireworks first and then eat?”
When they arrived, the whole village was brightly lit, creating a beautiful scene; he could take more footage.
Fu Huan sat on the sofa, his heart pounding with anxiety. Where Gu Shiying couldn’t see, his hands were practically digging into the cheap leather crevices. It wasn’t fear of sharing a roof with Gu Shiying; he was excited, almost losing control.
He stood up again after just sitting down. “Let’s go out now, you can take more night scene footage.”
Gu Shiying raised an eyebrow. “You seem to know me quite well?”
Fu Huan smiled. He had observed Gu Shiying for a long time; how could he not know him?
While looking for a parking space, he noticed Gu Shiying’s particular interest in the area, his eyes shining as he gazed out the car window. In that instant, he thought, no matter how long it took Gu Shiying to fall for him, he was willing to wait, even a lifetime.
“Let’s go, the sooner we get, the better the front seats.”
“Okay.” Gu Shiying agreed readily, even walking towards the door ahead of Fu Huan. With his back to Fu Huan, he couldn’t help but take a deep breath.
The room wasn’t very big, and the two of them standing there felt awkward. Even with his slow-wittedness, he could see the affection and doting in Fu Huan’s eyes.
Fu Huan had no idea how blatant his gaze was.
Could they really sleep in the same bed tonight? And this bed wasn’t even 1.8 meters wide, but only 1.5 meters! How could two people sleep without turning over? If they turned over, they’d be face-to-face. Maybe he should stay up all night; after all, he needed to watch the sunrise early tomorrow morning.
It wasn’t even time for the fireworks display yet, but the beach was already packed with people. The beach wasn’t big, and with everyone gathered in one place, it felt incredibly crowded.
Gu Shiying and Fu Huan avoided the crowd, finding a less crowded spot, but they were only slightly separated from the others. People in front of them would bump into them if they stepped back; there were just too many people.
At seven o’clock sharp, fireworks rose over the sea—something Gu Shiying had never seen before.
He used his phone to record the moment the fireworks rose, exploded, and blossomed.
Fu Huan stood behind him, also recording on his phone, capturing Gu Shiying’s smile, more dazzling than fireworks.
Gu Shiying gazed up at the fireworks that twinkled like stars in the night sky: “So beautiful!”
Fu Huan agreed, his gaze fixed on Gu Shiying’s profile, made even brighter by the fireworks, only glancing briefly at the night sky that illuminated the two of them.
He said, “It really is beautiful.”
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Suddenly, a huge firework went off, and the girl in front jumped up excitedly: “Honey, look, it’s so beautiful! Carry me on your back!”
The woman’s sudden request prompted the man to immediately crouch down and carry her.
Their sudden movement caused Gu Shiying to stumble backward. There was a sandpit someone had dug, and Gu Shiying fell backward, but Fu Huan caught him just in time.
As his burning fingers gripped his, Gu Shiying’s heart skipped a beat.
[Gu Shiying, I hope you like me.] 】
