Chapter 35 Sharing a Bed Gu Shiying wanted to strangle his past self from a second ago. …
Gu Shiying straightened up and took a step to the side. Fu Huan naturally placed his hands back on his trouser legs, slowly clenching them into fists.
He was restraining himself.
Once a switch is flipped, it’s like a flood that can’t be turned off.
He had held Gu Shiying’s wrist, supported his arm, grabbed his shoulder, and wrapped his arm around his waist. Although the contact was brief, he savored each touch, felt reluctant to let go, and thought about it day and night, his desire constantly intensifying.
Just a moment ago, he had generously thought that simply being with Gu Shiying was enough, letting him gradually fall in love with him. But now he didn’t want to take it gradually. He wanted to possess Gu Shiying, wanted to hold him tightly, wanted to be like those couples earlier, wanted his attention, and wanted Gu Shiying to affectionately call him by a nickname that was uniquely his own.
The fireworks were beautiful, but fleeting.
Gu Shiying captured the brief moment on her phone, filling an entire page with footage. Satisfied, she and Fu Huan went for a late-night snack.
It was crowded today, the shops were packed with tourists. Luckily, the shop Fu Huan took Gu Shiying to was relatively secluded, less crowded than those near the sea, and there were still seats available when they arrived. They ate for over an hour before returning to their guesthouse.
After eating barbecue, they came back smelling of charcoal smoke. They went straight to shower, and Fu Huan only went in after Gu Shiying finished.
Gu Shiying, wearing the pajamas Fu Huan had bought her that day, nestled on the orange double fabric sofa, drying her hair. The room had a small balcony; with the door open, she could feel the night waves and sea breeze.
In this atmosphere, Gu Shiying finished drying her hair and looked at the footage she had shot that day. The pajamas were so silky and comfortable that she started to feel sleepy after only a few videos, propping her chin up with her hand and almost lying down on the sofa.
Eek.
The rusty bathroom hinges opening jolted Gu Shiying awake, dispelling half of his drowsiness.
No, he couldn’t sleep. He had to share a 1.5-meter bed with Fu Huan; he’d have to stay up all night.
Fu Huan came out, drying his hair. “Sleepy?”
Gu Shiying’s mind was still a mess. “Ah, yeah, that’s right.”
Fu Huan: “Then you should sleep.”
Gu Shiying: “Aren’t you going to sleep?”
Fu Huan walked towards the sofa area. His strides were long; he reached the sofa in two steps. Gu Shiying was enveloped by the same scent of the guesthouse shower gel, and he involuntarily pressed his legs together, leaning back against the sofa.
Fu Huan said, “You sleep in the bed, I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
Gu Shiying: “Aren’t you going to sleep in the bed?”
Fu Huan sat down next to him, turning his head to look at him. “Gu Shiying, don’t forget, I’m gay. Don’t you feel guilty?”
Unexpectedly, Fu Huan directly exposed a fact that Gu Shiying was deliberately ignoring. He wasn’t unaware; he knew all too well.
Gu Shiying: “Oh, the bed’s pretty big.”
Fu Huan: “Don’t lie through your teeth.”
Gu Shiying: “Isn’t it better than the beds at school?”
Fu Huan: “It’s not enough for two people.”
Gu Shiying: “The sofa’s short, how about I sleep on the sofa and you sleep on the bed?”
Fu Huan: “No need, you go to the bed.”
“We’re brothers, there’s no need to be so formal.” He was almost speechless, mainly because saying this would make Fu Huan even more certain of giving up on him.
Fu Huan’s smile gradually faded: “Gu Shiying, stop nagging.”
Gu Shiying pretended not to refuse: “Ha, you’re being too cautious.”
He went into the bathroom, used the toilet, came out, crawled into bed, and threw the pillow next to him to Fu Huan.
Fu Huan stretched out his long arm, grabbed the pillow, and pressed it against the side of the sofa. “Go to sleep. We need to get up early to see the sunrise tomorrow.”
After pulling the covers over himself, he lifted his head out again. “Won’t you catch a cold without a blanket? Why don’t you go to bed?”
Fu Huan: “No need, I’m not cold.”
Even if Gu Shiying hadn’t mentioned it, he hadn’t felt cold sleeping tonight. He had just seen Gu Shiying wearing the pajamas he’d bought on the spur of the moment, his fingertips trembling while showering, and sitting with him on the sofa, feeling warm all over. How could he be cold?
Moonlight streamed in through the balcony door, and Fu Huan, lying on his side on the sofa, could clearly see Gu Shiying’s head buried in the pillow.
At school, everyone would hang curtains at the start of the semester to protect their privacy, so Fu Huan rarely observed Gu Shiying from this eye-level angle. However, he also knew that Gu Shiying didn’t actually wrap himself up so tightly in the blanket when he slept.
Gu Shiying always slept in a starfish position, often with his legs sticking out over the railing.
But he was now wrapped up like a silkworm cocoon.
Was the air conditioning too low? Was it that cold?
He didn’t feel anything.
It shouldn’t be. He’d set the air conditioning to 26 degrees Celsius. When he turned off the lights, he’d glanced at the remote; it was still in its original spot, untouched by Gu Shiying.
But surely Gu Shiying wouldn’t discover he liked him?
Yet he’d just been calling him “brother” all that time, looking so adorably righteous.
Fu Huan felt a surge of excitement at that tiny possibility, but then, a profound sense of loss washed over him in the darkness.
He knew that Gu Shiying, who could call him “brother,” could never possibly have romantic feelings for him.
Gu Shiying was indeed incredibly sleepy, but knowing Fu Huan’s feelings for her, she could only wrap herself up tighter.
So sleepy.
It was actually a bit noisy outside; tourists had just returned from their trip, and they could hear their conversation as they passed by their room.
Gu Shiying, half-asleep, drifted back to sleep after the noise subsided.
But he had barely fallen asleep when a loud thud startled him awake, making him jump out of bed.
The sound was like an explosion right next to his ear!
“What happened? What’s wrong?”
Gu Shiying frantically pressed the button on the bedside table, illuminating the room.
He saw Fu Huan still lying on the sofa, but his body was contorted, his posture slightly twisted, the two sofa cushions pressed against him in a V-shape.
Gu Shiying couldn’t help but chuckle, then felt it was a bit inappropriate. He threw off the covers and jumped out of bed to help the slightly dazed Fu Huan.
He used Fu Huan’s sleeve for leverage to help him sit up, but Fu Huan didn’t dare to touch the rickety sofa.
Gu Shiying woke up: “Are you alright? How could this sofa collapse? The quality is terrible!”
Fu Huan laughed speechlessly: “It really is terrible. No wonder they were the only place I had available when I booked today; the quality is just too bad.”
The two of them had gained some understanding of this family-run guesthouse.
Gu Shiying said angrily: “I’m definitely not going into a family-run guesthouse again next time.”
Fu Huan was also helpless: “Okay, I’ll remember to check the ratings next time.”
Gu Shiying: “…” Wait, who would stay out with you again next time? Don’t even think about it.
However, after complaining about the guesthouse, they returned to the most troubling problem of the night.
The sofa was unsuitable, so Fu Huan had to sleep on the bed.
Gu Shiying returned to the bed and patted it: “Sleep here.”
“That’s the only way.” This time, Fu Huan couldn’t hesitate. He put the pillow back in its original position, sat down gently on the bed, and lay down stiffly like a wooden statue.
Gu Shiying didn’t curl up in the blanket like before; he had to share the other half with Fu Huan.
Neither of them moved the blanket much.
Gu Shiying’s voice was stiff: “I’m going to sleep. Goodnight.”
Fu Huan lay flat on his stomach, his throat slightly tight: “Goodnight.”
It was very quiet now, and there were no more noises outside.
Gu Shiying’s sleepiness was mostly gone, and he couldn’t sleep comfortably.
He had never slept so close to Fu Huan before!
Usually, there was occasional physical contact, but it would quickly separate. But now, lying on a 1.5-meter bed, they were separated only by a blanket.
The silence of the night was so profound that even their breathing seemed amplified.
After waiting for ten minutes, Gu Shiying grabbed a corner of the blanket and pulled it over his chest.
Fu Huan should be asleep by now, right?
He wasn’t turning over, and his breathing was steady.
Great, he could finally relax and sleep.
Gu Shiying was already sleepy, and as he relaxed, sleepiness washed over him again.
Soon after, Gu Shiying fell asleep, unconsciously turning to face Fu Huan.
Fu Huan, wide awake, used the balcony light to trace Gu Shiying’s silhouette with his burning gaze.
If Gu Shiying had woken up at this moment, he would have found that the Fu Huan before him was someone he had never seen before. His eyes were red with suppressed emotion, filled not only with longing but also with a drowningly deep affection.
That night, Fu Huan didn’t even manage a wink of sleep, because in the middle of the night, Gu Shiying reverted to his usual sleeping boldness, using Gu Shiying’s lap as a blanket.
He stared at the ceiling with pleasure, his mind racing with the idea of pulling Gu Shiying into his arms.
Fu Huan didn’t dare move, nor did he want to, until he remembered he had to drive home in the afternoon and didn’t want to drive while fatigued, at which point he finally dozed off for a while.
Gu Shiying, however, was completely oblivious to his surroundings. He opened his eyes to a sliver of morning light streaming through the window.
He tended to toss and turn in his sleep, sometimes sprawled out, sometimes lying on his side, and often had the blanket tucked between his legs.
No, it was definitely a blanket under his legs, but why was it so hard?
He had initially pretended to be asleep in his dorm and didn’t want to open his eyes, but after a couple of seconds, his memory returned. He hadn’t slept in his dorm last night; he had slept in a guesthouse, and even shared a bed with Fu Huan.
Damn, what was that under his legs…?
That’s right, it was Fu Huan’s thigh.
Gu Shiying quickly moved his thigh away, pretending nothing had happened.
Wait, had he forgotten something?!
He was supposed to be watching the sunrise, so what time was it now?
He sat up abruptly, scratching his head in confusion, then went to the bedside table for his phone.
Last night he was in a state of disarray and hadn’t even thought to set an alarm!
Fu Huan woke up when Gu Shiying moved his legs.
Gu Shiying asked him, “You didn’t set an alarm either?”
Fu Huan blinked innocently, “I forgot.”
It wasn’t that he forgot to set an alarm, but rather that he thought that if Gu Shiying woke up on his own, they could watch the sunrise together. If he didn’t wake up before sunrise, perhaps they would have another chance to come here in the future.
Gu Shiying rarely saw Fu Huan just after waking up. He himself was usually still half asleep when he first woke up, but Fu Huan was practically inhuman. Even in the dead of winter, he would get up early for a morning run, and every time he woke up, Fu Huan had already finished his run and showered.
Fu Huan’s messy hair and winking at him were kind of cute.
Gu Shiying looked away, “Anyway, you’re awake, I’ll go wash up.”
When he quickly washed up and came out, he found Fu Huan still sitting on the bed.
Gu Shiying: “Aren’t you getting up?”
Fu Huan: “No, my legs are numb.”
Gu Shiying: “It can’t be because I’ve been lying down all night, right?”
Fu Huan looked at him: “Hmm.”
Gu Shiying blurted out again: “Shall I rub them for you?”
Fu Huan agreed even faster: “Sure.”
Gu Shiying wanted to strangle his past self.
