This Time, I Am A Mob's Potions Teacher Who Has Become Engaged To The Mastermind Of The Otome Game - 2
It all started… with a broken heart.
It’s embarrassing to admit, but when I went back home and found out the person I’d liked for years had gotten married, I drowned my sorrows in alcohol. On the way back to my room, I tripped, hit my head, and—just like that—my memories of a previous life came rushing back.
Memories of a world different from this one—a world without magic, where science reigned.
I’d been a teacher in that world too. Maybe I’m just destined to be an educator, no matter what life I live.
Sadly, the end of that life had also come because of a heartbreak and too much alcohol.
Drunk and depressed, I fell down a flight of stairs and died, just like that.
So I swore never to fall in love or drink again.
As I followed the trail of those memories, I realized something:
This world is the setting of an otome game I played in my previous life.
And I’ve been reincarnated as a painfully ordinary—no, horrifyingly plain—background character. After regaining my memories, I looked in the mirror and actually laughed. I looked exactly like the kind of nondescript NPC you’d forget the moment you saw.
The game I had played in my past life was titled Wizard Lovers: A Fateful Romance with the Mage of Light, or WizLuv for short.
It starts with the heroine, Sara Lufier, a commoner who enters the elite, all-residential Oria Magic Academy as a scholarship student.
There, she meets various romanceable characters, gets caught up in the schemes of Noel—the mastermind who holds a grudge against the kingdom—and even gets tangled in international conspiracies, all while working to save the academy and the kingdom. The ending varies based on her relationship points and choices with each love interest.
As for me, I’ve been reincarnated as Sara’s homeroom teacher—the potion studies instructor.
In the game, this character didn’t even have a face. They were a true mob (background character), only referred to in subtitles as “Potion Studies Teacher.”
Only the dialogue and speech pattern hinted at the character’s gender. They barely had any screen time at all.
After recovering my memories, I looked inside my closet and got chills. Everything inside was the same shape and color—as if I were a walking gag. I thought maybe all the teachers were like that, but nope. Turns out I’m the only one dressing like a clone of myself.
So I tried changing my hairstyle. Just a little.
No one recognized me.
The suppressive power of “mob identity” is terrifying.
Sara, by the way, awakens a power of light said to occur only once every thousand years, becoming the kingdom’s savior. It’s a pretty cliché story, really—she grows stronger and more confident through her trials.
I played that game a lot—to the point where I could recite the lines by heart.
At first, I was thrilled to have been reincarnated into a world I loved so much. But that excitement faded very quickly.
Because the bad endings in this game are… brutal.
Once I thought about my beloved students suffering through those awful endings, I couldn’t just sit back and enjoy it. Not anymore.
Seeing them through a teacher’s eyes, they’re no longer just characters. They’re young people, still growing. I had to help them. I vowed to nudge the story off the rails, behind the scenes, and make sure it reached a happy ending.
It’s a school story, after all. What better way to finish than with a beautiful graduation scene, full of sunlight and youth?
Especially my favorite—the “Ice Prince,” Prince Alois.
Alois Everard Nox, the second prince of the kingdom, is one of the romanceable characters. He’s also in my class, just like Sara. I picked his route more times than I can count.
I want him to be happy… That’s the real reason.
And so, I came up with a plan: I’d keep a close eye on Noel—the game’s final boss—and make sure he didn’t bring harm to any of the students.
Noel is the illegitimate son of the king and a dancer. To hide his existence, he was taken in by a marquis family and raised as their heir. However, the marquis and his wife looked down on Noel due to his mother’s bloodline and treated him coldly throughout his childhood.
“I thought dying would be easier, but they wouldn’t even let me do that. They stripped me of my emotions, my words, my thoughts… everything.”
That’s how he described his past in the game.
The one who reached out to him was his teacher—Professor Roaek, the potion studies instructor.
She was the only one who kept talking to him, even when he believed no one would listen. Through her steady kindness, she opened his heart. He came to adore her—like a mother, the game said.
And yet the royal family stole her from him.
Afraid that a commoner might influence someone with even a sliver of claim to the throne, they cursed Professor Roaek.
“She could’ve been saved… if not for that decrepit old man who sits on the bl00d-soaked throne.”
It was an ancient curse—one that slowly drained her strength and mind, with no known cure.
Noel eventually found a way to break it, using his connections in the Ministry of Magic.
But then…
“They killed her in front of me. To make an example. To teach me not to resist. Not to be happy.”
Just as he gathered the final materials to save her, the king had her eliminated—to show him that rebellion would not be tolerated.
Devastated by the loss of his beloved mentor, Noel turned against the foster family, the academy, and the kingdom itself. He allied with a foreign power and plotted revenge.
◆
“I can negotiate with fairies. I believe I can help undo the curse. So… please make me your wife. I won’t ask for anything else.”
With my knowledge, I might be able to gather the materials needed and prevent this tragedy.
That’s why I proposed marriage—to stay close to him.
But now that I’m actually here, facing him, I’m worried. This impenetrable mastermind may simply reject me outright.
And when those amethyst eyes of his lock on mine, my heart skips a beat despite myself
“A trade, then?”
“Yes. I think it’s quite a favorable deal for you, Professor Fabius.”
“Hm… The terms are so good, I can’t help but wonder if there’s a hidden catch.”
There is—but I feign innocence with all the strength I can muster.
I put on my best “harmless and earnest” face. Honestly, it’s probably the best acting performance of my entire life. I haven’t checked a mirror, but it has to be convincing.
“…”
“…”
Noel fell silent, clearly deep in thought.
The silence felt like it stretched on forever.
Just as I was starting to think I might not get a decision today, he finally spoke:
“Very well. I’ll send a letter to the Bellecour family as early as tomorrow.”
“Eh—ah, okay!”
“But there’s one condition: I’ll be assigning someone to watch you.”
He said that with the most beautiful smile he’d shown all day.
Ah… he definitely thinks, If you try anything funny, I’ll kill you.
In the game, too, he murdered an ally who tried to betray him and rat him out to the protagonists. What was that side character’s name again?
When I got back to my dorm room, I almost started writing my will.
But I didn’t—because I had to walk home with the person he assigned to watch me.
