This Time, I Am A Mob's Potions Teacher Who Has Become Engaged To The Mastermind Of The Otome Game - 5
The Day of the Event
Contrary to my mood, the weather was beautiful—perfect for a field trip.
“Is everyone here?”
“”“We’re all here~!”””
Several carriages carrying the students soared into the sky, pulled by griffins. It only took a moment to reach the clouds. As they took off, the blue sky filled our vision.
It should have been a pleasant sight—but I felt nothing but dread.
Come to think of it, this school year has been a disaster: monsters appearing wherever we go, spies from enemy nations attacking us… It’s been a mess. Just going on a field trip and ending up in a life-or-death battle—there’s seriously something wrong with this place.
“It’s always so big, no matter how many times I come.”
Every year, we bring the first-years to the Royal Botanical Gardens.
They have a wide variety of plants on display, and more importantly, the plants are in excellent condition, making it ideal for study.
I used to think we were safe here since it’s inside the royal palace and protected by the Royal Guard — but that changes when the conflict comes from within. Then even here isn’t safe.
The event is getting closer and closer, and I feel like I’m going to get an ulcer.
Just in case, I reviewed my offensive and defensive spells last night. But it’s been ages since I used any of them in actual combat.
Of course, not using them would be ideal—but if I don’t, some students will end up hurt. In the game, this event led to serious injuries. I definitely want to avoid that.
“What’s this black flower?”
“It’s called a Fritillaria, and it blooms in the southern regions.”
Isabelle Seraphine, the “villainess,” is enthusiastically working on her assignment.
With her silver hair styled in drill-like curls, she gives off that classic haughty villainess vibe. But in reality, she’s a very sweet girl. She studies hard and always looks out for the other students.
She also loves flowers, so she’s very knowledgeable. She told me that potion-making is her favorite subject.
A little farther off, Sarah is also examining the flowers with interest.
Sarah has shoulder-length pink hair and sparkling blue eyes like gemstones—she exudes that “heroine” aura, a special presence that makes her stand out.
So far, I haven’t seen any conflict between her and Isabelle.
They’re both my precious students, so I hope they stay on good terms…
Yes, they’re both main characters and incredibly cute. Two adorable girls admiring beautiful flowers—it’s such a peaceful moment.
I desperately want it to stay that way.
This constant state of limbo, not knowing when the event will strike—it’s torture.
“Professor Bellecourt, you don’t look well. Are you alright?”
“Y-yes. I just got a bit motion sick from the carriage.”
Noel peered into my face. Seeing his handsome features suddenly up close made my heart skip a beat.
It was a lame lie, clearly obvious, and he raised one eyebrow.
“I’ve never heard of anyone getting motion sickness from a griffin-drawn carriage.”
“Well, the floating sensation is kind of unusual. I don’t do well with that.”
That’s true—I’ve never heard of it either. Since the carriage floats in the sky, you don’t get the bumpiness of the road, making it stress-free.
Clearly, he didn’t buy my excuse, and he gave me another suspicious look.
Noel really seems determined to keep me under surveillance. You’re a chaperone, so keep your eyes on the students instead, please.
“Whoa! Look at this weird plant!”
Dona Barte, the class clown, was ignoring the group and running around on his own, led by his curiosity. He’s just a background character, but I recognize his tawny hair and golden eyes from the game.
Because he’s the first victim.
Dona gets caught in the monster attack aimed at Alois, suffers severe injuries, and ends up dropping out of school. I absolutely have to stop that from happening.
But every little thing he does feels like it’s activating the flag for that event. It’s heartbreaking, really. If you keep goofing around like that, you’ll run right into the monster, you know!
“Barte, stay with your group and observe with them.”
“Shut up, you plain glasses-wearing hag. As long as I finish the assignment, it’s fine, right?”
I’m saying this for your own good!!
And did he just insult me?! I’m taking points off, you little brat.
“Plain. Glasses.”
Noel echoed his words, looking straight at me. Was he trying to pick a fight?
Sure, I have brown hair and brown eyes, nothing remarkable. And yes, glasses are part of my default appearance.
I tried changing my look a bit once, but no one recognized me, so I gave up and went back. Got a problem with that? (I’m bitter, okay?)
When I gave him a sharp glare, he just returned his usual dazzling smile. He even dialed up the charm to deflect.
Ugh. I know what he’s thinking, and yet it still affects me. So unfair.
“Are you regretting getting engaged to someone as plain as me?”
“Not at all. I think you’re the perfect partner. You don’t ask for anything, help with my ambitions, and act as a great shield.”
“A shield, huh? Must be tough being so popular.”
Just as we were exchanging these cold, sugarless lines, the time finally came.
A shadow fell over us, and the glass walls of the botanical garden shattered.
I remember what happens next—Dona screams and—
“Waaah?! Is that a monster?!”
Right on cue, as if scripted, the glass shattered and a huge spider-like monster appeared. The timing was so perfect, it was terrifying.
This world really is being controlled by the game’s scenario.
“Stop! Don’t make loud noises—you’ll provoke it!”
As the monster charged at Dona, Noel used magic to levitate him to safety.
Good. Nice job, Noel.
Still, the monster is huge—bigger than any building I can think of.
They’re seriously trying to kill Alois. I won’t forgive anyone who tries to hurt my favorite character.
“Professor Bellecourt, cast a barrier spell!”
“Yes!”
I gathered the students and raised a protective barrier. The monster hit it and bounced off. That should keep us safe for now.
But we’re stuck. We can’t do anything until the monster leaves.
“Professor! Miss Seraphine is still over there… She stayed behind to help me!”
Sarah cried out, her voice almost in tears. Looking over, I saw Isabelle pale and hiding behind a tree. It’s only a matter of time before she’s discovered.
“Professor Fabius, I’m going to get her—please take over here!”
“No, it’s too dangerous!”
He said no, but I wasn’t about to stop.
After casting a barrier to protect the others, I stepped in front of the monster.
“Ugh…”
What do I do?
I stood in its path, but the monster was so huge I couldn’t get to Isabelle. It was watching my every move, ready to pounce the moment I did something.
I couldn’t think of a way to save her. I was about to cry when suddenly—
A loud voice rang out from outside the botanical garden.
