Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood (LILY, ABO) - Chapter 12
“Do we need to do anything?” Butler Chen pushed down his surprise and looked at Yan Mingzhu.
“No need. If their relationship is real, testing them might hurt their feelings. And if it’s fake…” Yan Mingzhu scoffed. “Do they think I’m blind?” She waved her hand dismissively and sat down at the dining table.
Butler Chen stepped aside. Wen Huaxi really was a good child. Yan Mingzhu genuinely liked her.
A girl like that was rare. All he could hope was that Yan Qinglan was not lying to her mother.
“So, how did I do?” Inside Yan Qinglan’s bathroom, Wen Huaxi casually pinned her against the wall and raised an eyebrow.
“Pfft.” Yan Qinglan looked at her, standing there like a proud peacock showing off. That overly dramatic pose she struck was strangely adorable.
“You did well, Huaxi.” Yan Qinglan reached out and grabbed her arm, quickly reversing their positions.
They were pressed into the farthest corner of the small space, and it was extremely cramped.
Wen Huaxi had chosen this spot on purpose. From her previous life, after many visits to the Yan family home, she had learned where best to catch Yan Qinglan off guard. Just a minute of pinning her down was enough to make her feel better after the long day of acting.
Unfortunately, she had once again underestimated their difference in strength. Yan Qinglan easily gained the upper hand and pressed her back instead, clearly enjoying the mix of embarrassment and frustration on Wen Huaxi’s face.
Yan Qinglan gripped her hand gently, like they were dancing, then pinned her arms a little farther apart so she could not resist.
She leaned in close, almost pinning Wen Huaxi fully, her eyelashes brushing across Wen Huaxi’s cheek like tiny whips leaving a sting behind.
“So… what kind of reward does Huaxi want?” Yan Qinglan moved even closer. Wen Huaxi was bent low beneath her.
Her eyes focused on Wen Huaxi’s shoulder, like a disciplined wolf awaiting command. The next second, it seemed she might bite into that pale skin.
“Anything but that. Huaxi knows what I mean. Anything else, and big sister will give it to you.”
Yan Qinglan tilted her head slightly, her breath brushing along Wen Huaxi’s neck and creeping up to her ears, tickling them with warmth.
There was no surveillance here. No need for pretending.
That could only mean one thing. Yan Qinglan had misunderstood and assumed Wen Huaxi liked these intimate gestures.
Wen Huaxi turned her gaze away, her lashes lowering, though her lips still curved slightly. “Then let go of me first, big sister.”
With that one sentence, the atmosphere instantly shattered.
Yan Qinglan calmly released her and turned to wash her hands.
“Do you want anything else?” she asked casually, as if completely unaware of how inappropriate her behavior had just been. She meticulously cleaned each part of her five-piece hand care set one by one.
Wen Huaxi felt her teeth ache just watching.
She said nothing. While Yan Qinglan was drying her hands, she suddenly leaned over and kissed the back of her hand. Then, she rushed to the sink and started rinsing her mouth.
Now it was Yan Qinglan’s turn to freeze.
Her emerald green eyes flickered with disbelief as she stared at Wen Huaxi. Her gaze clearly asked for an explanation.
“Is that what Huaxi wanted?” she asked, her tone soft but tinged with suspicion. “Using my obsession with cleanliness to punish me?”
Wen Huaxi remained at the sink, washing. Whether she continued or not, it put Yan Qinglan in a difficult position.
“So you’re that disgusted by me?” Wen Huaxi smiled brightly, looking at the faint lipstick stain left by her kiss.
“Then do you want to divorce me…”
Before she could finish the word “marriage,” Yan Qinglan covered her mouth.
“How could I ever be disgusted by you, Huaxi?” Yan Qinglan forced herself to stay calm. Her lashes trembled visibly as she explained.
“It makes me sad to hear you say that.” Her patience was wearing thin. She hoped this girl would stop testing her limits.
Wen Huaxi’s lips felt warm under Yan Qinglan’s cool palm. Her entire face began to heat up.
Her breath was trapped beneath the pressure of the hand, and the soft scent on her skin tickled her lips.
Wen Huaxi closed her eyes and, without warning, ran her tongue across Yan Qinglan’s palm.
The hand jerked away instantly, as if electrocuted. Disgust flashed clearly across Yan Qinglan’s face.
Wen Huaxi chuckled.
“Stop pretending, Yan Qinglan. Aren’t you tired? You’re clearly repulsed by me. I get it.”
The air thickened after those words. Yan Qinglan’s whole presence turned cold, but Wen Huaxi seemed more relaxed than before.
She watched as Yan Qinglan went to wash her hands again and shook her head with amusement.
“Have you thought about keeping the lipstick mark?”
“What do you mean?” After Wen Huaxi accused her of pretending, Yan Qinglan had stopped smiling.
Now, her entire aura was icy. Her eyes held no warmth. Even a glance felt like it could kill.
This was the real Yan Qinglan. Cold-blooded like a serpent. Ruthless and dangerous.
“To show your mother,” Wen Huaxi said calmly. Since her rebirth, she actually preferred this version of Yan Qinglan.
In her last life, she had only seen this side of her twice. And neither time had anything to do with her.
To push Yan Qinglan this far today made Wen Huaxi feel strangely proud.
There was something captivating about danger. It lured you in, made you dizzy, and pulled you under.
More importantly, this version of Yan Qinglan was easier to deal with. Unlike the gentle mask she usually wore, where every thought had to be guessed.
Guess right, you live. Guess wrong, you lose. She was like an untouchable god, impossible to predict.
But Wen Huaxi had spent years with her and knew how to read people. She also had a marriage certificate that kept Yan Qinglan in check. That gave her room to push boundaries.
Yan Qinglan stared at the red mark on the back of her hand, thinking for a moment.
Then she chuckled softly.
She stopped washing her hand and picked up a towel, wiping her fingers carefully as if handling something fragile. She deliberately avoided the spot where the lipstick had landed.
Suddenly, the towel flew behind Wen Huaxi and landed with a heavy thud.
She turned around instinctively and saw that the towel had landed halfway in the trash bin, the other half hanging limply outside like a dying bird.
Her hands tightened. Deep down, she was still a little afraid of this version of Yan Qinglan.
“You’re quite something,” Yan Qinglan said with a faint smile.
That brief smile sent a chill through Wen Huaxi’s heart. It was both terrifying and incredibly magnetic.
But in the blink of an eye, Yan Qinglan returned to her usual calm and graceful self.
“You were right, Huaxi. Come on, let’s go join Mom for lunch.”
She even reached out to embrace Wen Huaxi, as if nothing had just happened. It was as though there had never been any conflict between them and that their relationship was held together by love alone, not by a formal agreement.
Wen Huaxi wanted to say a few more words, but Yan Qinglan suddenly pinched her shoulder hard.
“Know when to stop. I believe, Xiaoxi, you understand what that means.”
Yan Qinglan was smiling, but her words were sharp and intimidating, as if they came from a predator ready to strike.
She was threatening her. Wen Huaxi smacked her lips and decided to drop the matter for the moment.
Later, in front of Yan Mingzhu, she would enjoy watching Yan Qinglan grit her teeth in frustration while still being forced to act politely.
The only one’s dining with Yan Mingzhu today were Yan Qinglan and Wen Huaxi.
Yan Yunlan had already returned to the company for work, and Yan Qingqing had recently been completely out of contact.
Wen Huaxi wanted to ask more questions. She strongly suspected that Yan Mingzhu’s illness had something to do with Gu Lian. But since Yan Qinglan had not said anything about it, she did not dare speak recklessly. She was afraid of upsetting Yan Mingzhu.
In her previous life, something like this had happened. One day, perhaps because she was overwhelmed by doubt, Yan Qinglan lost her patience and questioned Yan Mingzhu about Yan Qingqing. Before Mingzhu could say more than a few words, her mental illness suddenly acted up and she fainted.
After that, her health rapidly declined.
Every time Wen Huaxi accompanied Yan Qinglan to visit Yan Mingzhu, she could see the deep dark shadows under Qinglan’s cold and emotionless eyes.
It turned out that Yan Qinglan had a fragile and soft side. She could love her family deeply.
But none of that tenderness was ever meant for Wen Huaxi.
Thinking about this, Wen Huaxi picked up a serving of Yan Mingzhu’s favorite dish and placed it gently on her plate.
“Thank you, Xiaoxi. There’s no need to serve me. You should eat more. I remember that this boiled sliced pork has always been your favorite.”
Yan Mingzhu spoke with genuine warmth and joy. She then looked toward Yan Qinglan and motioned for her to serve food to Wen Huaxi.
Even though she was unwilling, Yan Qinglan still picked up the public chopsticks and began carefully searching through the dishes.
Wen Huaxi was slightly surprised by what Yan Mingzhu had said.
It must have been several months ago when Yan Qinglan first proposed the idea of a marriage agreement. That day, Wen Huaxi had followed her home and casually mentioned that the boiled sliced pork was delicious.
Yan Mingzhu remembered that.
Huaxi’s mother had passed away early. Her older sister had taken on a motherly role, but that could never fill the gap completely.
If she could save Yan Mingzhu in this lifetime, that would be enough.
No matter how Yan Qinglan treated her, Yan Mingzhu still deserved to be called “Mom.”
When she came back to her senses, Wen Huaxi noticed that Yan Qinglan was still busy looking through the dish, carefully trying to find the best pieces of meat for her.
Inside, Wen Huaxi rolled her eyes dramatically.
They were related by bl00d. So why was there such a huge difference between Yan Qinglan and her mother?
Even though she was filled with sarcasm on the inside, Wen Huaxi smiled brightly at Yan Qinglan.
Without hesitation, she reached out with her chopsticks and quickly snatched a piece of meat from Qinglan’s bowl. Then she winked playfully at her.
Yan Qinglan froze on the spot. Her hand trembled slightly without her realizing it.
That playful wink seemed to say, “I just took a piece of meat from your bowl, Sister. You won’t be mad at me, right?”
Yan Qinglan could almost hear her bratty tone in her mind.
She took a deep breath and maintained a flawless expression. She said nothing and acted as though she was being completely tolerant.
Then, before she could react, Wen Huaxi took a meatball from her bowl as well.
It was a meatball that she had already taken a bite from.
That was the final straw for Yan Qinglan.
She no longer cared how surprised Yan Mingzhu looked. She copied Wen Huaxi’s childish behavior and, acting just as immaturely, reached over with her chopsticks and grabbed two shrimp balls. She skewered them together and dropped them into her own bowl.
Wen Huaxi almost burst out laughing.
So much for having obsessive cleanliness. Clearly, when it came to food, she was even more possessive. In front of something delicious, even her so-called hygiene standards meant nothing.
“I think I might have taken a bite of that,” Wen Huaxi said casually after watching Yan Qinglan proudly eat one of the shrimp balls.
Yan Qinglan immediately froze. She could neither swallow nor spit it out.
But she had not seen any bite marks.
Looking at Yan Qinglan’s expression, struggling to keep her composure in front of Yan Mingzhu while her mind was full of hesitation and discomfort, Wen Huaxi felt completely satisfied.
This wicked woman always teased her with flirtatious gestures, acting superior.
Now she was getting what she deserved, and it felt amazing.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Sister Lan. I remembered wrong,” Wen Huaxi added calmly just as Yan Qinglan awkwardly pushed the shrimp ball into a napkin.
Yan Qinglan had a very inappropriate word stuck in her throat.
She also really wanted to hit someone.
She was never naturally that well-mannered. It was only repeated discipline and pressure that had forced her to behave with grace.
Yan Mingzhu, who had watched the entire scene unfold, was left completely speechless and amazed.
