Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood (LILY, ABO) - Chapter 5
Wen Huaxi stood frozen, completely stunned.
Yan Qinglan offered a quiet apology, then fled to the storage room just before Wen Huaxi’s pheromones began to spread.
Her home was stocked with inhibitors, both injections and patches, and for both genders.
Normally, Wen Huaxi took them on schedule. Today had simply been an accident.
Yan Qinglan truly felt a bit embarrassed.
She had only meant to tease the girl, get her to settle down, and stop obsessing over her.
She hadn’t expected this outcome.
Yan Qinglan had asked before and knew Wen Huaxi went into heat about once every six months.
She didn’t know when the last time had been, but this one definitely counted. She mentally marked the date.
She would do her best to avoid Wen Huaxi around that time in the future.
A compatibility rate of over 95 percent was no small matter.
And that result came when they were still strangers.
Some research suggested that as Alpha and Omega partners spent more time together, their compatibility could increase.
Six months from now, if they became even a little closer and she happened to encounter Wen Huaxi during another heat cycle, what might happen was obvious.
It wasn’t that Yan Qinglan had no interest in that kind of connection.
But as a top Alpha, she felt responsible for maintaining some discipline. If she accidentally hurt someone or caused an unwanted pregnancy, it wouldn’t be right.
Even though Wen Huaxi was her wife in name, Yan Qinglan had no real feelings for her and didn’t want to ruin the girl’s future.
They were destined for divorce eventually.
But that time had not yet come.
So she would not, and could not, touch Wen Huaxi.
As for the teasing earlier, Wen Huaxi actually seemed to enjoy it. She had gotten so worked up that it triggered her heat.
If the girl liked it, then a little more wouldn’t hurt.
After applying her own inhibitor patch, Yan Qinglan quickly returned to the living room with a suppressant injection in hand.
Wen Huaxi was curled up on the sofa, her face tight with pain as she tried to endure the torment brought on by her heat.
The air still carried a faint cherry-like sweetness. Thanks to the patch, Yan Qinglan could barely detect that tempting scent now.
She reached out to help, but Wen Huaxi shoved her away with surprising strength.
Although it only felt strong considering her delicate frame.
After all, how strong could an Omega who lived in comfort and rarely exercised really be?
Yan Qinglan easily held her down.
“Forgive me, Xiaoxi,” she said gently.
Wen Huaxi’s lashes trembled, but she didn’t resist anymore. She let Yan Qinglan administer the injection and apply the inhibitor patch.
Afterward, they waited for about fifteen minutes before Wen Huaxi finally began to recover.
She looked at Yan Qinglan with a clear expression of resentment in her eyes.
“I didn’t mean to,” Yan Qinglan said quietly, rubbing the bridge of her nose.
She was honestly confused.
With a 95 percent compatibility rate, it shouldn’t have been so easy to block the attraction between their pheromones.
Especially when Wen Huaxi’s scent was exactly her type—sweet and alluring.
But just one patch was enough to block out the Omega’s effect on her.
She was a top-level Alpha. It didn’t make sense that she felt so unaffected.
Could it be that Wen Huaxi wasn’t strong enough? But that didn’t make sense either. As an Omega, her scent should naturally be compelling.
Yan Qinglan frowned without realizing it.
Noticing that Wen Huaxi was still staring at her, she gave a small apologetic smile.
“I really am sorry, Xiaoxi. I’ll grant you one request. Anything, except a divorce.”
Wen Huaxi was furious.
She leaned back on the sofa, one of the cushions already ripped apart from her frustration. Yan Qinglan, acting as if nothing had happened, continued speaking gently to her.
If she weren’t still tied to this heartless woman, would she really need to live in restraint?
Wouldn’t it be much nicer to find someone new and fall in love properly?
What made it worse was that this hypocrite had the nerve to smile and say she wouldn’t agree to a divorce.
The more Wen Huaxi thought about it, the angrier she became. She picked up the already-damaged cushion and threw it at Yan Qinglan.
“You manipulative, fake-hearted woman! Why can’t we get divorced?”
Yan Qinglan didn’t react to the outburst.
Or perhaps she heard it and simply accepted it, showing no emotion. Her face still wore that calm, gentle smile.
“Didn’t you know, Xiaoxi? I thought you had read our agreement carefully.”
She caught the cushion mid-air, then patiently began stuffing the cotton back into it. Her lashes lowered, and she looked as if Wen Huaxi’s attitude had genuinely hurt her.
“If you didn’t know, then let me show it to you again. You’re still young, so it’s okay if you didn’t read it properly. I don’t blame you.”
A faint shimmer of tears appeared in Yan Qinglan’s emerald-green eyes.
She blinked, and the moisture clung to her lashes, refusing to fall.
The look on her face mirrored her restrained tone perfectly.
It was as if Wen Huaxi had truly wronged her, but she didn’t mind.
“Stop pretending. I know exactly what kind of person you are. You don’t need to fake kindness in front of me.”
Wen Huaxi threw another cushion at her.
This time, there was a remote control hidden inside. Yan Qinglan caught the cushion, but the remote hit her square on the forehead, leaving a red mark.
Wen Huaxi froze for a second, suddenly a little nervous.
Fortunately, Yan Qinglan didn’t seem angry.
“Xiaoxi, did I do something wrong? Tell me, and I’ll change.”
She rubbed her forehead as she spoke. Her voice was calm and soft, still full of concern for Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi felt like she had punched a pillow. Her fists met nothing but softness, and her frustration had nowhere to go. Her cheeks puffed up, and she turned her face away, refusing to look at Yan Qinglan.
“Did you really not know?” After a few seconds, Xiaoxi turned back, clearly irritated, and stared into Yan Qinglan’s calm, forest-colored green eyes.
She didn’t see sincerity there. Only a well-crafted mask, full of subtle calculation that stung the eyes.
Yan Qinglan hid it well. If she hadn’t let her guard down around Wen Huaxi, the girl wouldn’t have seen through her so easily.
Most likely, Yan Qinglan saw her as no threat at all. There was no need to be cautious around her.
“I truly didn’t know, Xiaoxi. Yesterday afternoon you followed me, last night you locked me out, this morning you took my dessert, and in the afternoon you tried to shut me out again. Don’t you think that’s a bit much?”
Yan Qinglan listed off Xiaoxi’s actions without holding back.
Xiaoxi felt a brief flicker of guilt under that serious tone.
But soon she straightened her back, full of confidence again.
Everything she had done was to make Yan Qinglan hate her. That way, she would finally agree to a divorce.
This meant her plan was working.
“I just happened to pass by yesterday. I didn’t lock the door because I was home alone and scared. And you hadn’t been back in over two weeks. How was I supposed to know you’d return last night?” Xiaoxi argued, still pouting.
Truthfully, these were all small matters.
Yan Qinglan didn’t take them to heart at all.
She only saw them as signs of Xiaoxi’s childish temper. It was kind of cute. None of it was worth getting upset over.
But there was one thing she needed to address.
“You’re right. I’ll let you know ahead of time whether I’ll be home. I promise I’ll change. Can we not talk about divorce anymore?”
“If I’m so awful to be around, why won’t you just agree to divorce me?”
Their voices overlapped.
Of course this heartless woman wouldn’t agree.
Xiaoxi threw herself onto the couch again and snatched the pillow from Yan Qinglan’s hands, hugging it tightly like an angry kitten.
Yan Qinglan pressed her fingers to her temple.
Clearly, Xiaoxi hadn’t given up on the idea of divorce. That was the real issue.
“Xiaoxi, our agreement is for four years. You signed it too. Why are you so determined to end it? Have I treated you badly?”
“You call this treating me well? You fool around with others and disappear for weeks without even coming home.”
Thinking of the pain she had endured in her past life with Yan Qinglan, Xiaoxi couldn’t stop her tears from flowing again.
So that was the reason. Yan Qinglan’s gaze turned distant, her expression cooling as she looked at her.
“Xiaoxi, it was written clearly in our agreement. We’re not a real couple. We’re allowed to live separate lives.”
She sighed, making no attempt to correct Xiaoxi’s accusation of “fooling around.”
“If you’ve met someone you like, you’re free to be with her. Before our contract ends, we’ll still be legally married. But you can tell her you’re in a marriage of convenience forced by family pressure. Make it clear that we’ll divorce after four years.”
Yan Qinglan was doing her best to explain everything logically.
She slowed her speech, carefully pronouncing each word to make sure Xiaoxi understood.
“You can really do that?” Xiaoxi had never even considered such a thing.
She had agreed to this marriage because of her years-long feelings for Yan Qinglan.
Now that she no longer had those feelings, she believed she needed to completely free herself before she could be with someone new.
But now Yan Qinglan was telling her she could go ahead and date.
That was not something she had ever imagined.
Yet if she actually did that, how would she be any different from this woman she considered heartless?
Yan Qinglan noticed Xiaoxi was considering it. Her expression softened, and her voice grew gentler.
“Yes. And when you saw me getting close to others, I was upfront with them about everything.”
At this point, Yan Qinglan felt that Xiaoxi’s label of “heartless woman” might be a little unfair.
She had never deceived anyone. Her feelings and actions had always been open and clear. How did that make her a terrible person?
And this whole marriage with Wen Huaxi had only happened because of pressure from their families.
If it weren’t for that, she would have remained single forever, enjoying her freedom, coming and going as she pleased.
Xiaoxi lowered her gaze, thinking over Yan Qinglan’s words.
“Think it over, Xiaoxi. Constantly talking about divorce only hurts both of us.”
Yan Qinglan handed her a tissue, then gently patted her head.
Xiaoxi didn’t respond. She wiped away her tears and looked over to see Yan Qinglan once again at the sink, repeating her hand-washing routine.
Seriously? She washed her hair every day. What part of her wasn’t clean?
It was frustrating. She still wanted a divorce.
If it came to it, she could move out. The only problem was that she was still a broke student who had cut ties with her family. She had no money, let alone a place to stay.
That made her even more upset.
At least her emotions had settled a bit. She sat at the dining table and began eating dinner.
Yan Qinglan joined her after finishing at the sink.
They ate in silence.
When Xiaoxi stood to return to her room, Yan Qinglan called out to her.
“This weekend, come with me to the Yan family estate. My mother wants to see you.” Her tone left no room for argument.
“Got it. I’m free this weekend anyway. Whatever.” Xiaoxi replied casually.
She no longer had feelings for Yan Qinglan, but she still liked Madam Yan, Yan Mingzhu.
The old lady had always treated her kindly, giving her the best food and gifts, never favoring Yan Qinglan.
It was a shame that in her past life, during their messy divorce, the old woman had already passed away.
Thinking about that made Xiaoxi’s mood sink again.
She didn’t know what illness Yan Mingzhu had, and for now, she didn’t have the resources or connections to help.
Was she really going to live through another lifetime of losing people she cared about?
No matter what, she had to leave Yan Qinglan and make it on her own.
“I’ll think about what you said earlier.” Before heading upstairs, Xiaoxi turned back and looked at Yan Qinglan.
