Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood (LILY, ABO) - Chapter 6
“That’s more like it. Xiaoxi, be good. Stop bringing up divorce every day. It only stirs up unnecessary tension.”
Yan Qinglan made no move to return to her room. She sat in the living room and smiled slightly as she looked toward Xiaoxi, who stood at the staircase landing.
It was as if they were a real couple and Xiaoxi was just throwing a childish tantrum about divorce.
Once she turned around, Xiaoxi rolled her eyes dramatically where Yan Qinglan couldn’t see.
As if divorce wasn’t inevitable.
It was just a matter of time.
This marriage had only happened because of pressure from the Yan family and Yan Qinglan. What did it have to do with her, Wen Huaxi?
She didn’t care whether Yan Qinglan held her position firmly or not.
She was simply tired. She didn’t want to be tangled up with Yan Qinglan any longer.
Back in her room, Wen Huaxi returned to working on her design sketches. She didn’t check her phone.
It wasn’t until the next morning that she saw a reply from Qin Shuyue.
Rather than being shocked that Wen Huaxi had managed to get her private contact information, Qin Shuyue was more surprised at how perfectly this actress matched the character.
Then she read Wen Huaxi’s résumé and discovered she was only a sophomore in college.
Qin Shuyue had to suppress the urge to sign her on the spot and instead asked her to come in for an audition.
Wen Huaxi was still only a second-year student. If her acting wasn’t strong enough yet, Qin Shuyue figured she could wait a few years until she matured and hand the role to her then.
Qin Shuyue was known for being a perfectionist. Wen Huaxi had worked with her before and knew her temperament very well.
Whenever she found a script she liked, she would sketch out her vision of the main character first, then search for an actor based on that image.
If she couldn’t find one, she would rather not make the film at all.
So Wen Huaxi wasn’t surprised when Qin Shuyue said what she did.
“You’re Wen Huaxi, right? I do have a role that suits you. But I need to see how you perform first. If you’re still a little raw, we can delay the project and work together in a few years.”
Wen Huaxi smiled calmly. After being reborn, she found Qin Shuyue’s personality hadn’t changed at all.
The two assistants present were stunned by the director’s words. Only the assistant director, who worked with her regularly, pushed up her glasses and showed no reaction.
As Qin Shuyue often said, acting skills could be trained. Charisma and looks, however, were innate and couldn’t be taught.
She would rather work with a talented newcomer than cast a well-known award-winning actress who felt too ordinary.
“This impromptu audition might be a bit demanding. I assume you haven’t read the original novel the film is based on. I’ll give you thirty minutes to prepare this scene.”
Qin Shuyue thought she was being reasonable and handed over the script excerpt.
If Wen Huaxi were truly an average sophomore, no matter how good her GPA or how well she understood theory, facing a top director known for her sharp judgment and being forced to prepare a cold reading with no notice would have shaken anyone.
But Wen Huaxi had acted in this film in her previous life. She still remembered all the lines and emotional layers of the scene.
She even vividly recalled Qin Shuyue tapping her on the head with the script during rehearsals.
That memory led her to briefly lose focus.
She remembered why she had been scolded back then.
It was because of Yan Qinglan.
After promising her kindly that she would come home early for dinner, Wen Huaxi had seen her the next day at a restaurant with a frail girl walking on crutches.
At the time, the idea that Yan Qinglan didn’t like her consumed her thoughts, so much so that she couldn’t even focus on her acting.
Looking back now, it had been unnecessary to get so upset. Focusing on work was far more important.
Besides, Yan Qinglan had informed her in advance that she wouldn’t be home that night.
Wen Huaxi quietly made up her mind. She would try out Yan the scumbag’s suggestion.
She didn’t want to look too eager, so she took the script and sat off to the side, pretending to review it.
After glancing through the scene, she couldn’t help but silently complain about Qin Shuyue.
This scene was one of the most emotionally complex moments in the entire film. If she didn’t know the director’s personality, she would have thought Qin Shuyue was trying to make her fail on purpose.
In reality, Qin Shuyue simply believed that tough scenes were the best way to evaluate ability. She also didn’t fully grasp the mental pressure students felt.
Half an hour later, Wen Huaxi closed the script and stepped into the center of the room.
“Director Qin, Assistant Director Li, I’m ready.”
Li Jing was a little surprised. She was used to being overlooked, but this young woman greeted her politely and confidently.
Li Jing had never doubted Qin Shuyue’s eye for talent, and now she focused in seriously, curious to see just what kind of potential this girl had. What kind of person had the nerve to send in a self-recommendation while still in her second year of college?
In her past life, Wen Huaxi had been the youngest actress to win all major film awards.
At twenty-four, she had only starred in three films. But all three won prestigious awards, something unprecedented in film history.
If not for her later pregnancy and the car accident, she might have made a name for herself internationally too.
The moment Wen Huaxi opened her eyes, she was already fully in character. Her features were distinctly East Asian, yet her expression alone gave her a vaguely mixed-race appearance.
She had transformed into the film’s protagonist, Pei Xi, a girl who had grown up overseas and returned to China unexpectedly, only to struggle with cultural differences.
Wen Huaxi’s features were naturally striking, and with a little makeup, her look would match the character even more closely.
What surprised Qin Shuyue most was that Wen Huaxi was completely bare-faced.
Being able to portray a biracial character through acting alone already marked her as someone with real potential.
This scene was where Pei Xi, bullied by neighborhood kids for her hair color, fought back for the first time.
Wen Huaxi’s emotions built in careful layers.
She showed not only Pei Xi’s fearless resistance, but also her confusion, vulnerability, and sudden realization about the harshness of the world.
When she finished, the room went completely silent for five minutes.
Wen Huaxi scratched her head and looked at Qin Shuyue a little awkwardly.
“Director Qin, Assistant Director Li, was that… too bad?”
She had already held back a little. Why did everyone look like they had been turned to stone?
Qin Shuyue drew in a sharp breath and slapped the table.
“You could afford to be a little more confident. If that level of acting is considered bad, then who in the entire entertainment industry dares to call themselves good?”
“I wouldn’t dare say that. There are still many senior actors I can learn from.” Wen Huaxi blinked with a smile.
She had lived a second life and retained all her memories. Competing with her peers now really did feel like cheating.
But the role had been hers in her previous life. At most, she was just reclaiming the resources that should have come to her.
Qin Shuyue was more than satisfied and wanted to sign a contract with her on the spot.
Wen Huaxi signed without hesitation, choosing an individual agreement rather than signing with Guangyue Studio.
That would save her the trouble of dealing with any interference from them.
“I’ll let you know once the shooting schedule is finalized. Don’t worry about school either. I’ll speak to your department head directly.”
Qin Shuyue patted her on the shoulder. “Young talent is truly impressive.”
“Thank you, Director Qin, for your support.” Wen Huaxi accepted her kindness without objection.
By the time she got home, it was already around dinnertime.
As usual, she reached for her keys to unlock the door, only to find she couldn’t open it.
Wen Huaxi paused for a moment, then it hit her.
Yan Qinglan had come home early and locked the door from the inside.
She was still holding a grudge over what happened last time and clearly wanted revenge.
Wen Huaxi hesitated for a moment between messaging Yan Qinglan to open the door or simply finding somewhere else to stay.
She quickly chose the latter.
Yan Qinglan was the type to cling to familiar spaces. Wen Huaxi didn’t have that kind of attachment.
She still had some pocket money and two credit cards that Yan Qinglan had given her. Staying at a hotel for the night was perfectly doable.
Why should she bother arguing?
Wen Huaxi called her friend Qiao Shinian, and the two met up for dinner before heading to a bar together.
“Girl, is your woman finally letting you breathe?” Qiao Shinian had been holding in her complaints about Wen Huaxi not going out with her lately.
“I’m planning to get a divorce,” Wen Huaxi said casually, dropping a bomb on her friend.
Qiao Shinian froze.
Five minutes later, Wen Huaxi already had a drink in hand and was sitting next to a stunning beauty who looked about twenty-five. Only then did Qiao Shinian finally recover.
“Wait, are you seriously pulling a shotgun marriage and shotgun divorce?” Qiao Shinian never thought those dramatic tabloid terms would apply to someone she knew in real life.
She had assumed that Wen Huaxi’s early marriage was because she had found true love.
“Something like that. I just don’t love her anymore. I’m planning to find someone new. Got anyone reliable you can introduce to your best friend?” Wen Huaxi didn’t go into details.
Her phone buzzed twice. She didn’t bother checking it.
“What kind of person do you like?” Qiao Shinian didn’t ask more. She watched as Wen Huaxi paid for the beautiful stranger’s drink and thought, maybe Wen Huaxi didn’t need any help after all.
“Someone like her,” Wen Huaxi said, pointing at the elegant woman next to her.
The stranger had a striking presence, cool on the surface but with a subtle allure in her eyes.
She had already reached out her hand to Wen Huaxi, but Wen Huaxi hadn’t responded to the gesture just yet.
The beauty wasn’t offended. She kept chatting with her in a calm, charming voice.
After a few drinks, Wen Huaxi finally asked for her name.
“My surname is Yu,” she said softly, her lashes lowered and a faint smile on her lips. “What about you?”
“My surname is Wen,” Wen Huaxi replied, but didn’t give her full name.
She didn’t stay out too late. Instead, it was Qiao Shinian who locked eyes with a bold, fiery woman and clearly planned to keep drinking for a few more hours.
Wen Huaxi found a nearby hotel, booked a room, and took a cab over.
Back at home, Yan Qinglan was still sitting in the living room when she received an alert from one of her credit cards. A large transaction had just gone through at Yunding Hotel.
That was when she finally stood up, no longer calm.
“Aluan, is something wrong?” A woman’s face appeared on the video call screen.
She was pale, almost sickly, and looked fragile, as if silently begging Yan Qinglan not to leave.
Her eyes were soft and filled with emotion. Yan Qinglan had once called them her favorite feature.
Yan Qinglan clenched her handbag tightly. The leather strap cracked slightly from the force of her grip.
“Something came up. I won’t be able to stay with you tonight.”
She was going to drag her temperamental, rule-breaking wife back home.
