Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood (LILY, ABO) - Chapter 9
Wen Huaxi let out a cold laugh when she heard that.
In this life, based on the course of her experiences, she had never interacted with Meng Qingzhou. Simply put, they were strangers.
“I don’t know her. But she purposely sat in the car and kept mocking me, both openly and subtly. What kind of attitude do you expect me to have? Or do you think I should treat your ambiguous lover with kindness?” Wen Huaxi pulled open a soda can with a sharp click.
The sound made Yan Qinglan shiver.
“You’re right. I shouldn’t have let that happen. I wasn’t being careful,” Yan Qinglan admitted quickly, before Wen Huaxi could splash the soda on her.
“I’m sorry, Xiaoxi. I promise this won’t happen again,” Yan Qinglan said sincerely. While the traffic light was still red, Wen Huaxi took a large sip of her cola.
“Don’t be like that, Sister Lan. I actually want to meet your ambiguous partner. Maybe we’d get along too,” Wen Huaxi leaned forward with a smile.
Yan Qinglan glanced nervously at the soda in Wen Huaxi’s hand.
“There’s no such thing as a lover. Meng Qingzhou was just giving me a ride. We’re just friends.”
Her eyes kept darting to the soda can, even as she continued responding to Wen Huaxi.
“Yes, your lovely romantic girlfriend,” Wen Huaxi rolled her eyes dramatically, then smiled again.
When the light turned green, she put the soda back in the cup holder.
Yan Qinglan was forced to slow the car down.
She didn’t want a sugary drink spilled in her car. If it soaked into the seats, it would be a nightmare to clean. She might have to replace the car altogether.
“You have maids at home. You didn’t ask them to drive you. Instead, you chose a friend who waits in your car, who knows exactly how to act to make you fall for her.”
Wen Huaxi stripped away every layer of pretense, watching as the smile on Yan Qinglan’s face froze. That finally gave her some satisfaction.
“This friend of yours is certainly very close to you, Sister.” Wen Huaxi added coldly. The way she kept calling her “sister” started to make Yan Qinglan uncomfortable.
“Xiaoxi, I really haven’t done anything with her.”
As for the occasional flirtation, saying things that might be misunderstood, Yan Qinglan didn’t deny it, but she wasn’t foolish enough to admit it now.
She believed Wen Huaxi would never find out about things like that.
Even this little outburst today was, to her, proof that Wen Huaxi still had feelings for her.
“Before today, I didn’t even realize Meng Qingzhou was interested in me.”
In her view, she and Meng Qingzhou were simply fooling around. Two people exchanging pretty words for fun, relaxing with someone attractive, and not involving any feelings or commitment.
So when Meng Qingzhou crossed the line today, Yan Qinglan was genuinely surprised.
Even Leng Yueshan wouldn’t dare act that boldly.
She couldn’t understand where Meng Qingzhou found the courage.
And of all places, it had to be in public. Her wife was sitting right next to her. Yan Qinglan had no way to react.
“If the two of you aren’t interested in each other, then why are you so close? That’s what makes you two so unbelievable,” Wen Huaxi said sharply.
She no longer cared who Yan Qinglan was involved with. What truly concerned her was the experience from her past life. She had a strong feeling that Meng Qingzhou was dangerous and should be avoided.
It seemed to Wen Huaxi that Meng Qingzhou wasn’t acting out of love. She probably had another motive. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be so reckless.
“We really are just friends. Xiaoxi, I haven’t had anything serious with anyone else either,” Yan Qinglan said with some frustration. She added a few more words, partly to explain and partly to caution Wen Huaxi.
“We’re married now. We both need to be responsible. Don’t you think so?”
The underlying message was clear. It was fine to have fun, but don’t get pregnant, or it would be difficult to explain to the family.
“You’re right,” Wen Huaxi crossed her legs, but her tone didn’t match her words. It was clear she didn’t take it seriously. “You’re certainly very ‘responsible,’ Sister.”
Yan Qinglan wanted to move on from the conversation.
Pretending not to hear the sarcasm in Wen Huaxi’s voice, she simply smiled calmly. “I’m glad you understand.”
Incidents like today, where her credit card was used to book a hotel, were things Yan Qinglan hoped would never happen again.
But Wen Huaxi actually found it amusing to see Yan Qinglan nervous and flustered.
Next time she visited a store like that, maybe she would use Yan Qinglan’s card again.
She had never been to one before.
In her past life, she had been so tightly controlled by Yan Qinglan that she lost all sense of desire. She never even explored her own interests. It wasn’t until after the divorce that she allowed herself a brief month of madness, all because Yan Qinglan had drawn her back in.
In this life, she had to prioritize her own happiness. So what if she wanted to try something new?
But when she counted the days, she realized her period was coming soon.
Wen Huaxi decided to drop the idea for now and focus on finishing her design drawings the next day.
That night, she had a dream that was even more absurd than reality.
She dreamed that she used Yan Qinglan’s card to buy a few toys. Yan Qinglan rushed home in a panic, demanding to know what she had bought.
Laughing, Wen Huaxi pulled them out, just wanting to see Yan Qinglan blush.
But to her surprise, Yan Qinglan was even more daring. Holding a pink toy shaped like a small boat, she slowly moved closer.
Just like a few days ago, Yan Qinglan wrapped her arms around Wen Huaxi and pressed the toy against her skin, whispering, “Let me help you.”
Wen Huaxi felt waves of heat rising with every vibration, making her dizzy and breathless.
Just like in their past life, Yan Qinglan pushed her to the edge, dangerously tempting her and stirring every nerve in her body.
The toy stayed beneath her, catching her every collapse and sending her into waves of ecstasy.
By the end of the dream, Wen Huaxi was covered in sweat. The heat clung to her skin, making her uncomfortable. She felt as though something was pressing down on her chest, and she couldn’t open her eyes.
All she could do was watch helplessly as Yan Qinglan left a deep mark on her. Then she gently placed her hand on Wen Huaxi’s stomach and said with a smile,
“In ten months, we’ll see our baby. I’m so happy.”
It was only after hearing those words that Wen Huaxi finally woke up in shock.
She touched the sweat on her forehead, gasping for breath. Her heart was racing uncontrollably, and she could barely calm down.
Remembering Yan Qinglan’s words from the dream made her break out in cold sweat all over again.
The heat had faded, but her skin still felt sticky, and all Wen Huaxi felt now was a wave of nausea.
A strange and sudden discomfort.
But she understood exactly what it meant.
Her child.
Her poor, barely two-month-old child had died with her in that car crash.
Wen Huaxi clutched her lower abdomen, tears spilling from the nausea choking her, but when she thought of her poor little girl, her tears came flooding like a tidal wave.
She had finally made up her mind to raise the baby and live a life without Yan Qinglan.
Wen Huaxi curled up in bed, unable to stop herself from thinking.
If only her poor little one had been reborn with her, how wonderful that would be.
But reincarnation was already such a fantastical event. The fact that it happened to her alone was already beyond natural.
The thought of it happening to someone else too was something Wen Huaxi dared not even imagine.
After a while, she got out of bed and went to wash up.
It had already been 28 days since her last period.
Her cycle usually came a little early, but the interval was always exactly 28 days.
Not seeing any bl00d, Wen Huaxi simply assumed that her body might have changed after being reborn and didn’t think too much about it.
She stayed home that day, immersing herself in films and design sketches, enjoying the last days of summer vacation.
Dinner was quick and simple. Afterwards, Wen Huaxi returned to her study and focused on her drawing.
It had been two or three years since she last did design work, so it was perfectly normal for her to feel a bit rusty.
Late into the night, after finishing an international meeting, Yan Qinglan got up to rest. As she passed by the small study, she noticed the light was still on.
She walked over instinctively and saw Wen Huaxi slumped over the desk, fast asleep.
Yan Qinglan let out a barely audible sigh, her heart tugged by the sight.
She walked over quietly, gently saved Wen Huaxi’s work, then lifted her into her arms and carried her back to her bedroom.
Wen Huaxi had always kept her room off-limits to Yan Qinglan. Yan Qinglan never had much interest in going in and had never pushed the matter.
This was the first time she had ever entered her contract wife’s room.
Everything inside was neatly organized.
For once, the tension in Yan Qinglan’s brows relaxed.
She carefully settled Wen Huaxi onto the bed, arranged the blanket until it looked just right, then turned off the lights and closed the windows.
No matter how dramatic or sharp-tongued she was when awake, Wen Huaxi always looked peaceful in her sleep.
Her figure was delicate and a bit alluring, and Yan Qinglan found herself staring a little longer than she should have.
Especially at Wen Huaxi’s abdomen, the part she had instinctively protected.
Without thinking, Yan Qinglan placed her hand lightly on Wen Huaxi’s stomach.
Two seconds later, she abruptly pulled her hand back, as if burned, and quickly left the room in a panic.
Why had she even reached for her stomach?
Yan Qinglan buried her face in her blanket, completely baffled.
That reaction felt like something had taken control of her. Flashing images passed through her mind—fragmented moments connected to Wen Huaxi—but they vanished before she could catch them.
After a long time, she finally threw off the blanket and exhaled deeply.
She must be under some kind of spell. Maybe meeting a few new girls would help clear her head.
The next morning, Wen Huaxi slowly opened her eyes. Finding herself in her bedroom didn’t surprise her.
It wasn’t until she finished washing up and felt the pulling pain in her lower belly that she realized something was wrong. Her last memory was falling asleep in the study. How had she ended up in her bedroom?
Wen Huaxi rubbed her stomach. Once again, there was no sign of bl00d.
This was strange. If her period hadn’t come, why was she in pain? She was in good health, with no history of stomach issues.
Still, this odd cramping left her feeling drained and sluggish.
With dark circles under her eyes, she slumped into her seat at the breakfast table, head down and curled up like a shrimp.
“Xiaoxi, are you alright?” Yan Qinglan raised an eyebrow.
“Did you catch a chill last night?” It had been almost two in the morning when she found her. The season was changing, and the nights were cooler now.
“No…” Wen Huaxi looked up weakly, too tired to even argue. “My stomach hurts.”
Yan Qinglan immediately went quiet.
She was terrified that her impulsive touch the night before had somehow caused this pain.
To be fair, she hadn’t used any force. Sure, the action was a little strange, but Wen Huaxi couldn’t blame her for that.
“Can you still go to the Yan family today?” Yan Qinglan asked, wanting to be sure.
Not because she was worried about Wen Huaxi’s health, but because she didn’t want Yan Mingzhu accusing her of neglecting her wife.
She had already given Wen Huaxi two credit cards and apologized more than once.
Just thinking about how Yan Mingzhu had been smiling ear to ear because of this sly little fox made Yan Qinglan feel annoyed.
Who was bullying who here?
“I can go. I’ll tell Mom it’s not your fault,” Wen Huaxi took a deep breath and finally managed to sit upright, ready to fight Yan Qinglan for dessert.
Surprisingly, Yan Qinglan didn’t put up a fuss today. She even generously handed her a cream puff.
All she wanted was for Wen Huaxi not to say the wrong thing in front of the family today.
Wen Huaxi made all the right expressions and said all the right things, though in her heart she was already scheming.
At exactly ten o’clock, the two of them arrived at the Yan family estate.
