- Episode 11 - The Urge to Kiss
Helpless, she had no choice but to follow him.
Behind the rocks, there was only a cushion with a backpack on it.
Qi Jinyou realized she had misunderstood him and also misunderstood Zhuang Xiaoran.
“Where’s the medicine?” She reached out her hand for the medicine.
The man let go of her, took a bottle of medicine from the small pocket on the side of the backpack, and handed it to her. The bottle had a string of English words on it.
She looked at the label for a long time but couldn’t find any Chinese characters.
Song Chu half-jokingly said, “If this medicine gets into your eyes, it might cause blindness. Be careful.”
She knew he was probably exaggerating, but she didn’t want to risk her health.
Without a mirror, she couldn’t see the wound clearly, so Qi Jinyou gave up.
“Brother Song Chu, can you help me spray it?” Qi Jinyou handed the bottle to him.
“Okay, close your eyes first.”
Qi Jinyou obediently closed her eyes.
Her porcelain-like oval face, with a small, high nose and tightly closed pink lips, showed a hint of stubbornness. Her long, curled eyelashes covered her lively, moist almond-shaped eyes.
The man’s gaze softened, lingering on her face, reluctant to look away.
The scene before him was like their first meeting six years ago, but the person in front of him had matured from a naive girl to a sophisticated woman.
The man’s slightly heavy breath reached her ears.
“Is it hard to spray?” Qi Jinyou asked.
She didn’t dare to open her eyes; her luck had been really bad lately.
“The cap on the bottle is hard to open.” Song Chu finally resisted the urge to kiss her and spoke up.
“Hmm.”
Soon, a cool sensation spread across her forehead, easing the burning pain.
Then, a finger blocked the area above her eyebrow.
“Don’t open your eyes yet. Let the medicine absorb.” The man instructed.
Qi Jinyou stayed still. After a while, when his finger moved away, she slightly opened her right eye and saw the man packing up the backpack.
Only after he finished packing was she allowed to open her eyes.
When they returned to the group, Qi Jinyou noticed Sister Zhou’s surprised look.
She walked over to explain, “We ran into each other over there.”
Some members had already left, and the remaining dozen or so girls cast complicated glances when they saw the two of them together.
Some were pleasantly surprised to see Song Chu.
But more of them gave her cold, hostile looks.
Qi Jinyou ignored those gazes. She understood the reasons behind them, even though they were mistaken and targeting the wrong person.
“Your forehead is injured again.” Sister Zhou noticed the swelling on her forehead and spoke with concern.
“A branch hit me earlier, but it’s nothing serious.” Qi Jinyou laughed at the word “again.”
Manager Zhang called them over and offered a flat seat near where the female members were gathered.
The female members straightened up but didn’t dare to move closer to him.
The man returned to his usual arrogant and cold demeanor.
It was as if the person who had carefully sprayed medicine on her earlier was someone else.
After resting for another ten minutes, Manager Zhang called for everyone to get up.
The path uphill became much gentler, and they reached the summit in about half an hour.
Manager Zhang pulled Song Chu to the front of the group.
Qi Jinyou and Sister Zhou stayed at the back, with Sister Zhou struggling a bit.
At the summit, Zhuang Xiaoran and other members who had arrived earlier were already waiting.
Looking east from the summit, most of the cityscape of Haishi came into view. As the sun gradually set, Manager Zhang gave everyone about half an hour to move around.
Qi Jinyou took the list and called out names, confirming that everyone was present.
No one was injured, so the event was mostly a success.
Song Chu and Zhuang Xiaoran stood together, discussing something.
Sister Zhou sat down, panting and rubbing her legs, while Qi Jinyou decided to explore the summit on her own.
Li Yang, who was also working part-time today, had been busy with the male members and finally had some time. He quickly caught up to Qi Jinyou.
Li Yang invited her to enjoy the scenery together, but she politely declined. Her sixth sense told her that Li Yang had feelings for her.
Or maybe she was just overthinking it.
Believing it was better to be safe than sorry, Qi Jinyou used the excuse of sore legs to turn him down.
The two had met when they joined the company, and Qi Jinyou remembered him because he came from a highly competitive province in the north and graduated from the top university in Haishi. He was a hardworking and ambitious young man.
In two years, she would be going abroad, and she had never planned to get involved in a relationship. Therefore, she didn’t want to give anyone false hope.
Li Yang wasn’t the type to push, so he apologized and walked away.
Sister Zhou, being older and more experienced, sighed as she watched Li Yang’s retreating figure: “Another heartbroken soul tonight.”
She turned to Qi Jinyou: “Xiao Qi, I think Li Yang is a good guy. Why not give him a chance?”
Qi Jinyou shook her head without explaining. She glanced back and saw Zhuang Xiaoran talking to Song Chu, but the man’s gaze was in the direction where Li Yang had gone, with a faint smile on his lips.
“Today, more than one person is heartbroken.” Sister Zhou’s gaze followed, sliding over Song Chu.
“They save up to buy sports cars just to join the club and chase after rich men. Tsk tsk.”
“Aren’t they from wealthy families?” Qi Jinyou asked, puzzled.
“Rich girls usually play with bags and luxury items. Few of them are into sports cars. Zhuang Xiaoran is an exception.”
Sister Zhou gestured with her eyes: “The two in yellow and pink tops are influencers. They made some money at the right time, bought sports cars, and joined the club. Most sports car enthusiasts are young, wealthy men.” Sister Zhou didn’t elaborate further.
Qi Jinyou remembered that the girl in the yellow top was the one who had watched her argue with Mrs. Wang next to Song Chu last time.
Qi Jinyou thoughtfully said, “They’re quite inspiring, then.”
The disparities in the world: some people desperately try to enter the world of the wealthy.
While others discard it like worthless trash, without any attachment.
Like her mother.
Sister Zhou pondered for a few seconds, then couldn’t help but laugh, putting an arm around her shoulder: “Xiao Qi, you’re really adorable.”
In less than half an hour, the sun had turned a visible red.
Those who had gone elsewhere returned, and Manager Zhang organized the group to head back. The descent took a little over half an hour, and dinner was already booked at a restaurant at the foot of the mountain.
Qi Jinyou counted the group again and found two people missing. The two influencer girls Sister Zhou had mentioned earlier.
People around said the two had gone east to shoot a video.
Some members grew impatient and started urging everyone to head down.
Manager Zhang decided to leave someone behind to wait for them.
It wasn’t appropriate for a guy to stay, and Sister Zhou was in charge of communication after descending.
Qi Jinyou volunteered to stay and wait for them.
The group had already @ the two girls several times, telling them to meet Qi Jinyou at the gathering spot once they saw the message.
Nowadays, everyone always has their phones with them, so it shouldn’t take too long.
The earlier noise had faded, and the summit returned to silence.
Qi Jinyou kept an eye on the group chat, afraid she might miss their reply.
The sunset in the west was brilliant, but the sky was already turning gray.
After waiting for ten minutes, she decided to go look for them where they had gone.
There was a small pavilion over there with a view of a reservoir, where waterbirds could be seen at dusk.
The two were probably captivated by the scenery.
The path to the summit was winding, with several forks along the way.
Qi Jinyou chose the middle path and walked deeper. The path became narrower, and the trees around her grew denser. She almost hit her forehead on branches several times.
The small pavilion came into view, and she thought she saw figures moving in the distance.
Qi Jinyou called out.
But when she emerged from the trees, she found no one in the pavilion.
