Song Chu spoke again, “Should we go to the hospital to check if your wrist is fractured?”
Qi Jinyou was startled. It wasn’t that serious.
It would be best to send him away quickly—she had already embarrassed herself enough for one day.
She was about to speak when General Manager Zhang rushed in. He had been waiting at the race track, wondering why Song Chu hadn’t shown up yet. On his way over, he heard about what had happened.
“Mrs. Wang, you misunderstood. Xiao Qi is here for her first day at work today—she’s not the person you’re looking for.”
Mrs. Wang, who had barely suppressed her anger, flared up again.
She was already upset after being overruled by Song Chu in front of everyone. Now, she had found someone else to take it out on.
Even if it wasn’t the girl in front of her, she was still part of the club.
She was about to lash out again when Song Chu spoke first.
“General Manager Zhang, how do you plan to handle your employee being wronged?”
General Manager Zhang quickly dismissed the onlookers. “Everyone, the race track is ready—please head over. And about this whole situation, it was just a misunderstanding. Please don’t spread any rumors. Thank you.”
Only four people remained in the lobby.
Although Zhang didn’t understand why Song Chu was getting involved, since he had spoken, Zhang had to respond accordingly. He couldn’t afford to offend this man. Compared to Song Chu, even a three-year-old could tell who held more power.
“Mrs. Wang, this is Xiao Qi’s first day at work. She’s young and easily embarrassed. Since she was wrongly accused, shouldn’t you at least give her an explanation?”
Mrs. Wang only needed a quick glance to realize the reality—she didn’t hold as much weight here as others did. Swallowing her anger, she said, “General Manager Zhang, I interrupted your work today. I apologize.”
Then, she turned to Qi Jinyou and bowed deeply. “Xiao Qi, I sincerely apologize again. I can’t accompany you to the hospital, but please send me the medical bill later—I’ll cover the full cost. If your phone was damaged, let me know as well.”
As she spoke, she took out a business card and handed it over.
Qi Jinyou didn’t hesitate. “Alright, as Mrs. Wang says.”
Just as Mrs. Wang was about to leave, she lifted her foot to step away when—
Song Chu coughed. “Mrs. Wang, what did you come here for today?”
The implication in his tone was clear to everyone.
The woman suddenly realized and held up her phone to Zhang, staring at him intently.
Zhang glanced at the photo for a few seconds, then forced a smile, opened his phone, and gave her Su Jiayao’s contact information.
After sending Mrs. Wang off, Zhang turned back with a flattering smile. “Mr. Song, everyone is waiting for you.”
“No rush.” Song Chu’s lazy drawl returned as he shifted his gaze to Qi Jinyou’s wrist. “If she can wait until after work with an injury like that, then what’s the rush about a race?”
Zhang slapped his forehead. “Xiao Qi, wait a moment.”
Then, he quickly ran to his office.
Now, only Qi Jinyou and Song Chu remained in the lobby.
She lowered her head, avoiding his gaze. First, she had pretended not to know him; then, she had dragged him into helping her. She must have looked like someone who only sought personal gain.
But if she stayed silent now, would he think she was ungrateful?
“Thank you, Brother Song Chu.” She mustered the courage to lift her eyes and sincerely thanked him.
The nervous look on her face made her seem like a frightened rabbit in his eyes—one that he suddenly had the urge to tease.
“Why did you pretend not to know me at first?” He circled around her, his gaze playful.
But didn’t you do the same?
Wait—he had only recognized her after she called for help.
So, technically, she was the one in the wrong first.
“You didn’t recognize me, and I also didn’t want my aunt to know I was working part-time.” She decided to be honest.
His dark eyes deepened, and after a brief pause, he spoke again. “But now, I know.”
Qi Jinyou didn’t quite understand what he meant, so she got straight to the point. “Brother Song Chu, can you keep this a secret for me?”
He responded almost instantly. “I’d like to, but I’m not very good at keeping secrets—I might accidentally let it slip.”
Qi Jinyou froze.
She had always thought of him as aloof, cold, and not one for small talk.
Would he really gossip about something this trivial?
“I won’t be working here anymore,” she said, partly to him and partly to herself.
After everything that happened today—the unwarranted trouble and the risk of being exposed—she had no intention of continuing.
“Just pretend you didn’t see me today.”
Song Chu raised an eyebrow. “Oh? That’s not what you said earlier.”
Before Qi Jinyou could explain, General Manager Zhang returned with a medical kit.
She swallowed back her words just in time.
Inside the kit, there was a bottle of medicated oil.
Qi Jinyou picked it up. “This will do.”
Zhang asked, “I also have pain relief patches—do you want some?”
Covering the bruise would help hide it.
“I’m allergic to those, no need. General Manager Zhang, you guys should get back to work—I can handle this on my own.” Feeling uncomfortable being surrounded by them, she subtly hinted for them to leave.
Zhang set down the medical kit. “Mr. Song, shall we go now?”
The other club members were already gathering at the race track, eager to see Haishi’s top supercar in action.
When word got out that Song Chu would be joining, even more members had rushed over—many bringing their friends along.
But the man ignored Zhang and made no move to leave.
Zhang glanced at Qi Jinyou, who was rubbing the medicated oil onto her wrist. The cool, sharp scent spread through the air.
It instantly heightened his senses.
“Oh!”
“Xiao Qi, why don’t you come watch the race? Your wrist is injured, and there’s no urgent work here anyway,” Zhang suggested with a warm smile.
She put the medicated oil back into her bag and followed them out.
When she got into Zhang’s car, she saw Song Chu’s Bugatti speeding away in the distance.
