- Episode 5 - Thinking About a Good Meal
The club’s race track was built from an abandoned factory. Due to space limitations, the track was not long and had many sharp turns.
When Qi Jinyou arrived, several cars were already lined up at the starting point.
The spectator stands on one side of the track were full of people.
Qi Jinyou spotted Sister Zhou, who was busy, and walked over.
“New members have signed up for the race, and some members showed up last minute to watch. Today is a mess. I’ll send you the list, and you can write it down by hand. The original meal orders aren’t enough, so I need to arrange more food,“ Sister Zhou complained, handing her the form.
Seeing the red bruise on Qi Jinyou’s hand, Sister Zhou, who had already heard about the situation from others, frowned. “Forget it, I’ll write it. Your hand is in this state.“
“Xiao Qi, you’ve suffered on your first day at work. Don’t take it too hard. It wasn’t your fault.“
Qi Jinyou smiled. “It’s fine, I can do it. It’s just a minor injury, not a serious one.“
“Well, you’re just too good-looking, so it’s normal to be mistaken,“ Sister Zhou comforted her in a different way.
Qi Jinyou didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“This afternoon has been crazy. I haven’t even had a sip of water. Damn it, it’s all because of that guy.“
Sister Zhou sounded resentful. Song Chu’s sudden arrival had caught everyone off guard.
Qi Jinyou followed her gaze and saw over ten sports cars lined up outside.
The black Bugatti sat quietly among them like a lurking dragon. Song Chu leaned lazily against the car.
A small group gathered around him, their faces filled with excitement and admiration. However, he remained indifferent, his expression as arrogant and detached as ever, completely ignoring the commotion he had caused.
Qi Jinyou looked away and focused on her work.
After adding names twice, the registration finally ended.
The race had seven groups, with four cars in each group.
Song Chu was in the last group, which had three men and one woman.
The only female racer in the competition caught Qi Jinyou’s attention. Her name was Zhuang Xiaoran, and she drove a white Ferrari.
Security and staff stood ten meters apart to maintain order. As the race was about to begin, Sister Zhou grabbed her laptop and pulled Qi Jinyou along.
“I’ll take you to the best viewing spot.“
To get there, they had to pass by the parked race cars. Sister Zhou led Qi Jinyou around the back of the cars.
She didn’t dare to look up at Song Chu, but she felt eyes on her. The pressure made her uncomfortable. She wasn’t sure if it was him or one of the spectators from earlier, so she walked quickly with small steps.
Standing at the front to maintain security was Zhou Yang, who had chased after the cars earlier in the reception hall.
When Qi Jinyou looked up, she met his gaze.
The young man waved at her with a smile. Qi Jinyou smiled back and pointed forward.
About ten meters ahead was the best viewing spot Sister Zhou had mentioned.
They went through a door, climbed a dozen steps, and sat down.
“From here, you can clearly see the cars making turns and speeding up on the straightaway—those thrilling moments…“
Qi Jinyou didn’t know much about racing, but Sister Zhou’s vivid description made her feel a bit excited.
The first group of cars began the race. When the starting flag waved, the sound of tires screeching and engines roaring filled the air.
Four cars sped off, their sleek figures alternating positions. After two laps, the race ended. The five minutes passed quickly, leaving the audience wanting more.
The first six groups finished their races.
The most anticipated seventh group was about to start.
Everyone wanted to see the Bugatti in action. Qi Jinyou glanced over and saw a striking figure appear next to Song Chu.
The girl wore a black tight-fitting racing suit that highlighted her tall and graceful figure. Her long hair flowed behind her. Even from a distance, her sharp and beautiful side profile was visible as she put on her helmet.
The setting sun cast a golden glow on her, making her look like a character from a fairy tale.
Qi Jinyou was momentarily captivated.
Sister Zhou said, “She’s Zhuang Xiaoran, the heiress of the Zhuang family in Haishi. Unlike other rich girls who love luxury bags, she has a unique passion for race cars.“
“Her car is second only to Song Chu’s. It’s said that she has two other supercars worth millions at home.“
“She’s beautiful too. What kind of man could marry a girl like that?“
Sister Zhou clicked her tongue. “Being born rich is truly a skill.“
Qi Jinyou thought to herself: Being born rich doesn’t guarantee a lifetime of glory.
Zhuang Xiaoran finished adjusting her helmet and got into her car. Song Chu came into view.
He was dressed the same as before, looking too casual compared to the other racers in professional gear.
He lifted his helmet and put it on.
The four cars started their engines. At first, Zhuang Xiaoran’s white Ferrari took the lead.
Song Chu’s car seemed slow, even falling behind the other three cars after a few turns.
Qi Jinyou overheard spectators whispering their disappointment.
“I thought he was a pro, but he’s just a rookie.“
“What a waste of such a good car.“
Some even wanted to join in. “If I knew, I would’ve raced instead. I could totally crush that Ferrari.“
Song Chu had attended club events before but had never raced. No one could convince him to join a race.
Now, people thought they understood why. “So this is why he never competes.“
Others nodded in agreement.
“He’s just bad and doesn’t want to embarrass himself.“
As the first lap neared its end, the white car had left the others far behind.
“It’s settled. A girl is going to win, and the three guys should be ashamed.“
“Don’t say that. Except for the Bugatti, the other cars aren’t as good as the white one. She has an advantage.“
“The other two aren’t much worse. They all accelerate within three seconds—it’s just bad driving.“
Feeling a slight connection, Qi Jinyou suddenly worried for Song Chu.
She looked around. No one was cheering, so she swallowed her words.
With the loud engine noises, he wouldn’t hear it anyway.
She kept her eyes on the black car.
As the white car crossed the finish line for the second lap, the blue and yellow cars followed closely.
Song Chu’s car hadn’t even reached the last turn yet.
“I was hoping for a good show, but this is just disappointing. He let down all of us who worked so hard today,“ Sister Zhou complained.
Just as she finished speaking—
The black Bugatti suddenly accelerated, smoothly taking the final turn.
As it entered the straightaway in front of the stands, the car seemed to fly past.
The yellow and blue cars were side by side, fighting for second place. The black car switched to the left lane and, in just two seconds, executed a perfect curve, overtaking both cars.
The audience fell silent, all eyes on the black car.
Everyone held their breath. The only sound was the roaring engine.
As the white car reached the next turn, the black car caught up.
With no room to pass, the two cars exited the turn one after the other.
Finally, on a curved section, the black car found an opening, sped past the white car, and executed a beautiful drift.
The entire crowd erupted in cheers.
Qi Jinyou clutched her chest in relief.
The black car pulled ahead, gaining distance.
The white car tried to catch up but couldn’t.
Seconds later, the black car was dozens of meters ahead—then a hundred meters.
“I take back what I said. That was amazing,“ Sister Zhou said, standing up.
Qi Jinyou followed her. As the black car neared the straightaway, they moved to the trackside.
The black car rushed past, sending a gust of wind their way.
Qi Jinyou’s hair was blown back.
With a sharp screech, the black car came to a perfect stop—just a meter away from her.
