- Episode 6 - Hush Money
The man turned his face toward her. Only a sliver of sunlight remained, casting a golden glow on his face.
His usually cold and indifferent expression unexpectedly carried a hint of warmth.
Was he stopping to admire the sunset?
Qi Jinyou shifted her gaze behind her. The white Ferrari had just passed the final curve and was accelerating.
She couldn’t help but point behind them to remind Song Chu.
The man’s lips, hidden by his helmet, curved into a deep smile as his gaze lingered on Qi Jinyou’s anxious face for a few seconds.
The white car was only a few meters away when he finally looked forward again.
With a roar, his car shot forward, creating a gust of wind.
Qi Jinyou’s hair was blown up once more.
In that moment, all the frustration from the afternoon disappeared.
“Damn, he’s so arrogant. He even takes breaks during a race and still wins first place.“ Sister Zhou cursed as she watched the black car cross the finish line.
Dinner was delivered, and members along with staff returned to the club’s main area.
Some members drove back to the city, while only half stayed behind.
Qi Jinyou delivered meals to a few spots but didn’t see Song Chu. She had asked him to keep her part-time job a secret, but he hadn’t agreed yet.
She didn’t have his contact information either.
Qi Jinyou lost her appetite and decided to go outside, hoping to run into him by chance.
She hurried out the door and accidentally bumped into someone.
Looking up, she saw the elegant girl from the race.
Thinking about her background, Qi Jinyou assumed she would be spoiled and rude like Shen Yan, so she braced herself for insults.
“Be careful. Why are you rushing like that?“ Zhuang Xiaoran’s tone was scolding but gentle.
Qi Jinyou was surprised but quickly apologized. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention.“
“No need to apologize. It’s not clear who bumped into whom.“ Zhuang Xiaoran responded casually.
Noticing Qi Jinyou’s awkwardness and her uniform, she asked, “Do you have any liniment oil? I twisted my wrist from moving too fast.“
Qi Jinyou happened to have some in her pocket from earlier and quickly handed it over.
Zhuang Xiaoran took it without hesitation.
“Thanks. What’s your name?“
“Qi Jinyou.“ She answered while glancing outside.
“There’s no one out there.“ Zhuang Xiaoran said while applying the oil.
Since there was no one outside, Qi Jinyou gave up on searching.
“Miss Zhuang, follow me.“ She decided to finish her current task first.
As most of the members left, the day’s work finally ended.
Qi Jinyou hesitated about whether to resign in person with Manager Zhang.
Just then, she received a payment notification—2,000 yuan salary credited.
Better not quit just yet. Maybe things would turn around.
She went to the staff room, changed back into her own clothes, and then stepped out, realizing she hadn’t figured out how to get home.
As she walked outside, she opened the ride-hailing app.
The reception area was brightly lit, but the path leading to the main road had only a few scattered streetlights, making it much darker.
Her phone kept showing that no drivers were available. Even after increasing the fare twice, no one accepted the ride.
Understandable. This place was practically the middle of nowhere. On a weekend night, unless dropping off passengers nearby, no ride-hailing cars would come here.
She had refused a colleague’s offer for a ride back to the city earlier. That was a bad decision.
She had no choice but to increase the fare again. The cost was now over 100 yuan.
Qi Jinyou stared at her phone.
She didn’t notice the car parked in front of her and almost bumped into its rear.
A voice called out, “Looking for money on the ground? You’ve been staring down the whole time.“
Qi Jinyou stopped abruptly. The black Bugatti came into view.
Luckily, he spoke in time. Someone in the group chat once said that even a tiny scratch on this car would cost more than an average person could afford.
Her bag had a metal clasp.
Instinctively, Qi Jinyou covered the metal clasp with her hand.
“I’m not robbing you. Why are you clutching your bag like that?“ The voice carried a hint of amusement.
The car door lifted, and Song Chu stepped out, extinguishing his cigarette.
“Brother Song Chu, that’s not what I meant.“ Her nervousness was obvious in her tone.
But she couldn’t help thinking—everything she owned wouldn’t even buy him a pack of cigarettes.
“Why haven’t you left yet?“ Qi Jinyou changed the subject.
The man didn’t answer.
It was already 9 p.m. Had he gone somewhere else for dinner and come back?
A man as wealthy as him surely had refined tastes.
“I looked for you at the club, but you never came for dinner,“ Qi Jinyou continued.
“You seem quite concerned about me.“ His lazy tone carried amusement as he stepped closer.
Qi Jinyou immediately felt pressured.
“No, don’t misunderstand.“ She took a small step back, waving her hands in denial. She felt there was another meaning behind his words.
“I actually need your help.“ Qi Jinyou decided to be direct.
Song Chu smirked. “You want me to help cover up something?“
“I didn’t do anything bad, so it’s not really a cover-up.“
“I have my reasons. Brother Song Chu, please don’t tell anyone.“
“Alright.“ He answered simply, his lips curving slightly.
“Thank you, Brother Song Chu.“ Qi Jinyou felt relieved and surprised.
But in the next second—
He stretched out his hand toward her. “Hush money.“
His slender fingers were open in front of her, completely still.
Qi Jinyou’s gaze moved from his hand to his face.
His handsome features still carried a lazy air, but his expression was serious. He didn’t seem to be joking.
Would a wealthy CEO really need money?
“How much?“ Qi Jinyou tilted her head.
“How much do you think is fair? My asking price isn’t low.“
“But I only make 2,000 yuan a day.“ She admitted honestly.
“No money? Then find something else to keep my mouth shut.“
Qi Jinyou’s eyes landed on his thin lips. Right now, she wished she had a needle and thread to sew his mouth shut.
“I’ll let you owe me for now. I’ll collect when I think of something.“ Song Chu withdrew his hand.
The person in front of him was like a little rabbit. If pushed too hard, she might bite. He decided not to tease her further.
Qi Jinyou nodded gratefully.
Song Chu was an important man with a busy life. He’d probably forget about this small matter soon.
Still, she said, “Thank you, Brother Song Chu. Let me know when you decide.“
“Why are you working part-time here?“ He suddenly changed the subject.
