To Sink Into You - Chapter 11
“Yes,” Ming Qian replied earnestly. “That’s why I wanted to ask you to examine Yuxi.”
“Understood,” Ming Yang responded, her voice gentle and steady. “After leaving the hospital, go directly to the Supervision Center. Find Building D, report my name to security, and wait briefly. I’ll prepare and come right over. We can discuss the details in person.”
“Okay,” Ming Qian said.
After hanging up, she instructed the driver to prepare the car, ready to leave the hospital at any moment.
A while later, Wen Yuxi returned to the ward after her examination.
“Sister,” Wen Yuxi called out.
“Mm-hmm,” Ming Qian replied, relieved to see her complexion normal and her demeanor stable. “You look much better.”
Wen Yuxi awkwardly touched her nose. “The doctor gave me an inhibitor. I’m so sorry if I offended you earlier.”
When Wen Yuxi had gotten up and seen Ming Qian, her mind had gone blank. The High Fever Period had flared, causing her thoughts to become fragmented, though she hadn’t completely lost consciousness. This question was, of course, deliberately posed.
Could this unlock Ming Qian’s shy side?
Wen Yuxi waited with anticipation.
“It’s alright,” Ming Qian smiled faintly. “You were very well-behaved.”
Wen Yuxi landed and asked for confirmation, “Really?”
“Of course,” Ming Qian replied, maintaining her smile as she shifted the conversation. “Yuxi, you must have noticed this High Fever Period is significantly different from previous ones.”
Wen Yuxi nodded hesitantly. “You’re right. It started about a week early, the symptoms were much more severe, and I even fainted—something that’s never happened during my High Fever Periods before.”
Ming Qian met her gaze calmly. “The doctor said this is likely due to drug stimulation. So, once the test results come back, let’s go to the Supervision Center to investigate, okay?”
Wen Yuxi frowned, her eyes suddenly turning cold as a realization struck her. “Are you saying someone drugged me?”
She had assumed her condition was due to Ming Qian…
Wen Yuxi rubbed her temples.
She couldn’t believe she had overlooked such an obvious possibility.
Love truly does make people foolish.
“We’ll know for sure once we go,” Ming Qian said, neither confirming nor denying. “The Supervision Center’s research department has specialized equipment for analyzing glandular hormones. Though still in development, it’s quite advanced. If it’s true, they might be able to identify the drug’s components.”
Wen Yuxi’s eyes narrowed, her expression thoughtful.
After considering all possibilities, only one explanation remained: the tea Wen Jiayang had given her last night must have been tampered with.
Wen Yuxi let out a cold laugh. To scheme against his own daughter for his own desires—truly, he is my good father.
She asked, “Did my parents not come?”
Ming Qian replied, “They stayed up all night with you, but their bodies couldn’t take it. I persuaded them to go home and rest. Remember to let them know you’re safe.”
“Mm,” Wen Yuxi said, taking out her phone to text Su Xi.
Half an hour later, the test results came back. The doctor said, “Your pheromone concentration and glandular hormone levels remain elevated, but all other readings are normal. As long as you avoid stimulation, you shouldn’t lose consciousness again. You can consider being discharged.”
Ming Qian asked, “Is there any way to alleviate these episodes of unconsciousness?”
The doctor replied, “Are you the patient’s partner?”
“Yes,” Ming Qian replied.
The doctor smiled. “That makes things easier. Since she’s in the High Fever Period, the underlying principles are the same. Simply release your pheromones to soothe her. A fully completed mate bond would be even more effective.”
Ming Qian paused, then slowly responded, “Alright, thank you.”
Alpha and Omega pheromones are independent. The only way to establish a soothing connection is through marking, making them completely belong to each other.
Ming Qian and Wen Yuxi’s relationship was purer than a blank sheet of paper—they hadn’t even shared a bed, let alone considered marking. The doctor’s method was clearly impractical.
Looks like we need to stock up on suppressants at home, Ming Qian thought. Both Alpha-specific and Omega-specific ones.
After bidding farewell to the doctor, the two women climbed into the black Bugatti waiting at the hospital entrance and headed toward the Supervision Center.
The Pheromone Supervision Center was a national institution, a vital organ of the Empire. It was divided into multiple independent departments, each operating autonomously without interfering with the others.
Building D, also known as Yiran Building, housed the Research Institute and contained some of the Empire’s most classified secrets. Its security system was robust, requiring non-research personnel to undergo a complex application process to gain entry.
Fortunately, Ming Yang had arrived early and already completed the necessary paperwork for them. The three women took the elevator to the 13th floor. As they passed the director’s office, Ming Yang said, “I’ll go in and get the keys.”
Wearing silver-rimmed glasses, a white lab coat, and high heels, her long, neatly styled hair pulled back, Ming Yang exuded a unique aura—a blend of Alpha’s strength and femininity. Her usual warm, playful demeanor was replaced by an authoritative presence, radiating confidence and control.
Looking at her, it was clear that Ming Qian had perfectly inherited the traits of both her mothers:
Her appearance resembled Zuo Lian’s—soft, beautiful, and dignified. Her temperament, however, was more like Ming Yang’s—gentle yet aloof.
I wonder what Ming Qian would look like in a lab coat… Wen Yuxi thought. She’d definitely look incredibly sexy…
Realizing what she was thinking, Wen Yuxi’s lips twitched. She exhaled sharply and bit her tongue to stay focused.
The High Fever Period is truly infuriating. It’s like being in heat all the time.
After securing the keys, Ming Yang instructed Ming Qian to wait where she was and led Wen Yuxi to have a bl00d sample drawn. Ten minutes later, they returned to the office with the test results.
“Mom,” Ming Qian stood up. “What’s the situation?”
“Sit down, I’ll explain.” Ming Yang settled into her chair and handed Ming Qian the report. “It’s confirmed to be a Forced High Fever class drug. The glandular hormones contain traces of S-Class Alpha pheromones that have been purified and extracted. It’s not in our database, and it’s extremely potent. The user is likely to suffer long-term side effects.”
Wen Yuxi’s eyes snapped up.
Side effects?
Ming Qian’s expression grew increasingly grave.
Ming Yang continued, “The existence of Forced High Fever drugs is exploitative to both Alphas and Omegas. The Empire banned their production six centuries ago, and regulatory agencies have maintained strict oversight ever since. Countless criminals have been prosecuted, yet somehow, this one slipped through the cracks.”
“Yuxi, where did you come into contact with this drug? The situation is serious. I need to prepare a detailed report for my superiors and initiate an investigation.”
Wen Yuxi lowered her gaze, pondering for a long moment before replying, “I’m not entirely sure, Mom. I’ll need to investigate further before I can tell you.”
Ming Yang said gently, “Alright, let me know if you find any clues.”
“Mom,” Ming Qian asked, frowning, “is there any treatment for Yuxi’s condition?”
Ming Yang shook his head. “With current technology, we can’t decipher the drug’s exact formula solely from the user’s bl00d. I’m powerless to help directly. All I can do is try to contact industry experts I’ve worked with before and ask for their assistance.”
After a pause, he continued, “Yuxi is an S-Class Omega, so her physical constitution should be strong. The side effects are only a possibility. But if you’re still worried, there’s a more reliable solution.”
Ming Qian’s eyes lit up slightly. “What is it?”
Ming Yang: “If Yuxi’s symptoms during her next High Fever Period are still abnormal, you should mark her immediately.”
