To Sink Into You - Chapter 12
Ming Qian’s expression was inscrutable. “Are you suggesting I use my pheromones to calm her down?”
Ming Yang nodded. “It’s the most efficient solution—quick, effortless, and harmless. Your mother knows you’re still developing your relationship and might find a full marking overwhelming. A temporary marking would fade in six months, causing no long-term complications.”
Wen Yuxi’s eyes widened, and she covered her mouth with her hand, her heart pounding wildly. Her shoulders trembled slightly with excitement.
Oh my god, is this really happening?!
What a twist of fate!
Ming Qian turned to Wen Yuxi. “Yuxi, what do you think?”
“Ah?” Wen Yuxi coughed twice, lowered her voice, and feigned composure. “I think physical health is most important. Of course, if Sister Qian doesn’t want to, that’s fine too. I can just use suppressants.”
“…I see.” Ming Qian lowered her gaze, her long lashes casting a shadow over her face. “I’ll consider it.”
Inside, Wen Yuxi mentally performed a celebratory military-style fist routine.
Yes!
“Alright, let’s leave it at that for now. We’ll discuss the specifics later,” Ming Yang said with a satisfied nod. “There shouldn’t be anything else to worry about. Let’s go home. Your mother’s waiting for us for dinner.”
Wen Yuxi politely declined. “Mom, I won’t be joining you. My mother’s been worried sick about me, so I need to go home and reassure her.”
“Alright,” Ming Yang said, patting her head affectionately. “Good girl. Once your High Fever Period passes, you and Qianqian can take your wedding photos, okay?”
“Okay,” Wen Yuxi replied with a sweet, obedient smile.
Ming Qian sent a message to their driver, Shen Kang, then turned to Wen Yuxi. “I’ll have Old Shen take you home.”
Wen Yuxi accepted without hesitation. “Thank you, Sister.”
“No need to thank me.”
“Aiyo,” Ming Yang interjected, unable to bear the formality. “You two act more polite than strangers! You’re not just meeting for the first time—just relax and be yourselves!”
“Don’t worry about us,” Ming Qian replied calmly, her expression unchanged. “We have a way of interacting that suits us better.”
Ming Yang removed his glasses and playfully pinched her cheek. “Alright, alright~”
Ming Qian brushed off her father’s hand and sighed helplessly. “You’re not getting any younger. Act more mature.”
“What do you mean ‘not getting any younger’?” Ming Yang retorted, cupping his still-youthful face. “Yuxi, tell me, do I look old?”
Wen Yuxi couldn’t help but giggle. “Not at all, Mom. You look like you’re in your thirties.”
Ming Yang beamed, his eyes crinkling with delight. “See? My darling daughter-in-law knows how to sweet-talk me.”
Ming Qian pretended not to hear. “Let’s go. Mom’s waiting for dinner.”
Wen Yuxi nearly burst out laughing.
Both mothers were so lively, yet their daughter was so serious and aloof, like an unattainable moon. It was a mystery where she got her temperament from.
Then Wen Yuxi remembered Ming Yi’s perpetually stern expression and suddenly understood.
Ah, it must be a generational trait.
When Wen Yuxi returned home and opened the door, Su Xi immediately rushed over, her voice filled with concern. “How did it go? Did Director Ming examine you? What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing serious, just symptoms from the High Fever Period,” Wen Yuxi reassured her mother. “It’s already gone.”
“Really gone?” Su Xi touched her daughter’s forehead. “You don’t have a fever… Didn’t the doctor mention some kind of medication?”
“Really gone. The medication was based on a misdiagnosis. If you don’t trust me, do you trust Aunt Ming?” Wen Yuxi smiled gently. “I’m going to take a shower first. I feel so dirty after spending the night in the hospital.”
Relieved, Su Xi asked, “Have you eaten yet?”
Wen Yuxi looked pitiful. “No, I was so busy I didn’t even have time for breakfast.”
Su Xi’s heart ached. “Oh, you poor thing! Mom will make you something. Go wash up now, and don’t use cold water.”
“Okay.” Wen Yuxi turned to Wen Jiayang, who was sitting silently on the sofa. “Dad, let’s talk after we eat.”
Wen Jiayang nodded heavily, his shoulders slumped and deep lines etched between his brows.
After showering, eating, and resting briefly in bed, Wen Yuxi organized her thoughts and went to the study to speak with Wen Jiayang.
“Daughter, how are you feeling?” Wen Jiayang asked with concern.
Wen Yuxi replied coldly, “You already know.”
Wen Jiayang’s expression stiffened slightly, and he forced a smile. “What do you mean by that…?”
“Let’s not beat around the bush, father,” Wen Yuxi said impatiently, a glint of malice in her eyes. “You should have considered the consequences when you drugged my tea. Aunt Ming has instructed me to report all the clues I have to her, and she will escalate the matter to the Imperial Investigation Team.”
Wen Jiayang’s face instantly turned panicked. “The Investigation Team? Is it really that serious?”
“What do you think?” Wen Yuxi sneered. “Because of that drug, my glandular hormones are in disarray, likely causing permanent complications. I might even be unable to have children.”
Wen Jiayang’s face turned ashen. “Can it be treated?”
“Not currently,” Wen Yuxi said calmly. “I don’t want to implicate you because you’re my father, and your imprisonment would damage my future. But in return, you must tell me the source of the drug. Otherwise, I can’t fulfill my obligation.”
Wen Jiayang’s lips trembled as he ran a hand through his hair. “I… I never imagined this drug would be so unethical. I saw it online… I just wanted you to get pregnant sooner, honey. You have to believe me, I truly didn’t know…”
“Enough. Send me the source,” Wen Yuxi said, cutting him off, too tired for further argument. Her tone dripped with sarcasm. “If you want to kill your own daughter, feel free to keep scheming against me. I won’t mind.”
Wen Jiayang’s eyes reddened as he said bitterly, “Honey, I was wrong.”
“I don’t want Mom to know about this yet.” Wen Yuxi stood up and walked to the door. “From now on, I’ll be living with Ming Qian. If you need anything, talk to me directly. Don’t bother her.”
With that, she left the study and returned to her bedroom. She lay on the bed, closing her eyes wearily.
She knew perfectly well that to Wen Jiayang, her only value lay in bearing children for powerful Alpha families. So she had deliberately exaggerated the truth, hoping to make him regret his actions and abandon such foolish schemes.
Her phone chimed with a special notification tone. Ming Qian had sent a message:Â Yuxi, how are you feeling?
Wen Yuxi seized the opportunity to play the victim:Â I’m fine now. Just got an inhibitor shot. Feeling much better.
Ming Qian:Â Get some rest. I’ll pick you up tomorrow.
Wen Yuxi:Â No need. My head’s still foggy, and I’m afraid I might offend you. I’ll just stay home and wait for the High Fever Period to pass before we meet again.
Ming Qian:Â Alright. Get some sleep.
Wen Yuxi:Â ……
This backfired. Ming Qian actually agreed.
Wen Yuxi now understood firsthand what it meant to shoot herself in the foot.
Just then, Wen Jiayang sent her the link to the illegal website where he had purchased the forced High Fever drug. It was a crude, unofficial site.
Wen Yuxi:Â Where did you find this?
Wen Jiayang:Â A mahjong buddy recommended it. They got it from someone else too.
Wen Yuxi:Â Did your friends know this drug could affect an Omega’s fertility?
Wen Jiayang:Â Don’t worry, honey. I’ll track them down and find a cure, even if I have to investigate myself. Your dad won’t let you be unable to have children.
Wen Yuxi scoffed coldly and didn’t reply. She forwarded the link to Ming Qian, saying:Â Sis, this is where my dad bought the drug. Can you check it out?
Ming Qian:Â Why would your father do this?
Wen Yuxi:Â He wants us to have a child.
Ming Qian didn’t reply for a long time.
Wen Yuxi continued, “Please keep this from Aunt Ming. Just tell her I was likely drugged by someone I offended and remember nothing. There’s no evidence on him, and my mother has high bl00d pressure. I don’t want to upset her until she’s feeling better.”
Ming Qian replied, “Alright, I’ll have someone investigate discreetly without telling Mom. But we can’t keep this hidden for long. It’s a serious matter, and if we find no leads, Mom will definitely ask you again.”
Wen Yuxi: “That’s fine. I’ll tell her the truth then.”
Ming Qian: “Okay. Get some rest. Good night.”
Wen Yuxi: “Good night.”
Smuggling drugs under such strict surveillance requires a powerful protective umbrella. Based on the current leads, the Imperial Investigation Team’s investigation is unlikely to make progress in the short term.
Wen Yuxi thought that after her hint, Wen Jiayang would likely investigate his mahjong partners himself. If he got lucky and found something, it would at least be a small contribution.
She hoped this flimsy lie would buy her some time—even one day would be enough.
