To Sink Into You - Chapter 13
On July 29th, Wen Yuxi’s High Fever Period finally ended.
Early that morning, Su Xi went to the balcony to water the plants. Glancing out the window, she spotted Ming Qian and Qing Zeyya walking toward the apartment building’s entrance. Overjoyed, she rushed to wake Wen Yuxi. “Get up! Your wife is here to pick you up!”
Wen Yuxi, still groggy from being dragged out of bed by her mother, mumbled, “Who?”
“Ming Qian!” Su Xi poked her forehead, exasperated. “Are you stupid? Do you have another wife?”
Wen Yuxi’s brain finally booted up. She immediately dashed to the bathroom to wash up, do her skincare routine, and apply a light layer of makeup to make herself presentable.
As she was applying foundation in front of the mirror, Ming Qian and Qing Zeyya knocked and entered. Su Xi led them to the living room for small talk while Wen Yuxi slipped into the kitchen to wolf down breakfast. She nearly choked on her soy milk.
After hastily finishing her meal, she returned to the living room, sat beside Ming Qian, and grinned. “You came so early, Sister.”
“You should be ashamed of yourself,” Su Xi glared at her. “Always sleeping in like a child.”
Ming Qian handed Wen Yuxi a tissue to wipe her mouth and chuckled softly. “It’s fine. She’s still growing. Let her sleep in.”
“Oh my, she’s already 21! What kind of growing is she doing now?” Su Xi patted Wen Yuxi’s hand. “Qianqian, you can’t spoil her like this.”
Ming Qian smiled but remained silent.
Su Xi suddenly remembered something. “Qianqian, Dean Ming examined Xixi a few days ago. She told me everything’s fine and that the medication was a misdiagnosis. Is that really the case?”
“Yes, don’t worry,” Ming Qian replied calmly, her smile unwavering. “I’ll take good care of her.”
“That’s good.” Su Xi’s worries completely vanished. She smiled and asked, “Aren’t you two supposed to take wedding photos? Hurry up, it’s important!”
“Okay,” Ming Qian nodded. “Mom, would you like to come with us?”
“Me?” Su Xi waved her hand. “I’ll leave you young people to your own affairs. Just send me the photos later.”
“Alright.” Ming Qian didn’t press the matter. Turning to Wen Yuxi, she said, “Let’s go.”
The three said goodbye to Su Xi and went downstairs to the black business car waiting at the curb. They headed to the scheduled photography studio.
Wen Yuxi asked, puzzled, “Didn’t Grandma and Aunt Ming and Aunt Zuo say they were coming too?”
“Grandma won’t be joining us. The other two were very enthusiastic, so they’re probably already there,” Ming Qian replied, instructing the driver, Shen Kang, to lower the air conditioning. “Is Uncle Wen not home?”
Wen Yuxi leaned back in her chair. “He went to work.”
Ming Qian pondered for a moment before deciding to speak her mind. “Forgive me for saying this, but try to avoid seeing him as much as possible in the future.”
Wen Yuxi lowered her gaze. “Mm.”
Ming Qian couldn’t help but sigh. The first time she met Wen Yuxi, the girl was just a toddler who couldn’t even walk yet. From that moment on, Wen Jiayang had shown no interest in his daughter’s upbringing, treating her with coldness and harshness, resorting to physical punishment and verbal abuse. He was utterly unworthy of being a father.
“He’s always been like this,” Wen Yuxi said indifferently. “His attitude only improved slightly after I differentiated into an Omega at sixteen.”
The change was solely because Omegas had the potential to attract top-tier Alpha partners, making them more valuable to him.
Ming Qian’s eyes softened with warmth. “It’s alright. We’ll live together from now on and only see him when absolutely necessary.”
Wen Yuxi smiled, her lips pressed together. “Okay.”
She knew that unless Su Xi divorced Wen Jiayang, she would never escape her father’s vampiric grip.
But that was fine. As long as she executed her plan step by step, she was certain she would achieve the desired outcome.
Thirty minutes later, the business car pulled up in front of the photo studio.
Qing Zeyya explained their purpose to the receptionist, and after a short wait, a staff member led them to the third floor.
The photographer was adjusting his equipment, while Ming Yang and Zuo Lian were enthusiastically helping their daughter and daughter-in-law choose wedding gowns. Seeing them arrive, Zuo Lian waved cheerfully. “Darlings, Qiqi, come over here! What do you think of these dresses?”
Ming Qian replied softly, “Whatever you decide is fine.”
The selected gowns were hung on floor-length racks, lined up against the wall. The Western styles were dazzling and modern, while the Chinese styles exuded regal elegance. Wen Yuxi walked over and exclaimed admiringly, “Wow, they’re so beautiful!”
“Go get your makeup done and change,” Ming Yang said, patting her head with a gentle smile. “Let’s make you look stunning and take lots of photos.”
The makeup artist was exceptionally skilled. As a fellow professional, Wen Yuxi enjoyed chatting with her. After the session, they exchanged contact information and promised to grab coffee together sometime.
While the photographer and his assistant were setting up the backdrop, Ming Qian asked, “Have you decided on your career path as a makeup artist?”
“Yeah, I plan to work with my mentor for a few years first, then open my own studio,” Wen Yuxi replied. “I’ll be a senior next semester, so I need to find an internship. I’ve already arranged with my mentor to join a film crew.”
Ever since finishing her college entrance exams, Wen Yuxi had been working part-time. Her diligence, reliability, and willingness to work hard had earned her the favor of senior colleagues, who eventually took her on as an apprentice. This marked her formal entry into the industry. After three years of hard work and perseverance, she had finally managed to establish a foothold.
“Working with the film crew…” Ming Qian, who oversaw the entertainment company under the Mingwei Group, had a deep understanding of the industry. “The makeup artists on set must work incredibly hard.”
“It’s not too bad,” Wen Yuxi replied. “The irregular hours are tough, though. Late nights and early mornings, never getting enough sleep—it’s definitely exhausting.”
Sleep held an unparalleled, sacred status in Wen Yuxi’s life. In terms of importance, only Ming Qian and money could rival it.
Indeed, her three life principles were: Ming Qian, sleep, and making money.
“Seriously?” Zuo Lian, passing by, overheard their conversation and scoffed. “You two are taking wedding photos and still talking about work? That’s just like you.”
Wen Yuxi and Ming Qian exchanged amused glances.
Zuo Lian, tired of teasing them, went to find her own wife. “Honey, the wedding dresses here are gorgeous! Should we take a few sets ourselves?”
Ming Yang readily agreed, “Sure, why not?”
And so, the long-married couple strolled off hand-in-hand, beaming with delight as they went to get styled.
Ming Qian: “……”
Wen Yuxi: “……”
Ming Qian’s emotions were mixed. “I’m sorry you had to witness that.”
Wen Yuxi couldn’t help but chuckle. “No need! I love your aunts’ personalities.”
She secretly marveled at how fortunate it was that Ming Qian wasn’t as eccentric as her two mothers. Otherwise, their family gatherings would probably be so wild they’d blow the roof off the house.
Due to time constraints, Ming Qian and Wen Yuxi decided to only shoot indoor wedding photos, which would be more time-efficient, less strenuous, and more convenient.
After finishing the traditional Chinese wedding attire shots, they reapplied their makeup and changed into Western-style wedding dresses, then followed the photographer to a meticulously decorated room to continue the shoot.
Photographer: “Western-style photography emphasizes boldness and romance. Could you two get a little closer? A kiss, an embrace—let your love flow naturally, and I’ll capture it beautifully.”
Ming Qian’s expression remained unchanged. “That won’t be necessary. A touch of restraint will do just fine.”
“Ah?” The photographer paused, scratching his head. “…Oh, okay.”
Wen Yuxi barely managed to suppress her laughter.
