To Sink Into You - Chapter 23
After resting for half an hour, Qing Zeyya stayed at the hotel while Ming Qian took Wen Yuxi out.
The film and television city was located in a coastal province, boasting stunning scenery where the sky met the sea. It featured multiple AAAAA-rated scenic spots, excellent urban planning, and bustling streets radiating prosperity.
Throughout the day, Wen Yuxi’s smile never faded. Her nerves were highly stimulated, her eyes sparkling like a vibrant little peacock.
As dusk gradually fell, streaks of sunset painted the sky. Crimson and violet clouds piled up along the distant horizon, their colors rich and intense. The setting sun blazed like molten gold, an utterly breathtaking sight.
Ming Qian’s expression softened. “Are you hungry? Let’s grab something to eat.”
“Okay!” Wen Yuxi’s smile bloomed like a flower. “What does Sister want to eat?”
“I’ll leave it up to you.”
“Then let’s go to the mall! Master and I went there once, and the hot dry noodles on the fourth floor were pretty good.” Wen Yuxi skipped backward in front of Ming Qian, bouncing with excitement. “After we eat, we can catch a movie upstairs, okay?”
“Okay.” Ming Qian took her hand, pulling her away from a cyclist riding against traffic. “Be careful! Watch where you’re going.”
“Oops!” Wen Yuxi grinned and stuck out her tongue playfully.
The cinema in the mall was bustling with activity, mostly couples clinging to each other like glue. Ming Qian bought popcorn and cola for Wen Yuxi, and they walked into the theater together, finding their seats.
Advertisements flickered across the big screen. Wen Yuxi set the popcorn bucket and cola aside, fiddling with the 3D glasses before putting them on. They had chosen a big-budget science fiction action film with rave reviews online, and the theater was packed, every seat taken.
It was a weekend, and many parents had brought their children out to play, their noisy chatter filling the air. Ming Qian, who preferred quiet, found the environment unsettling. Her delicate brows furrowed slightly until the movie began, finally allowing her stiff back to relax.
In the dimly lit theater, she sat ramrod straight, the 3D glasses perched on her high, straight nose. The constantly shifting light and shadows played across her face, accentuating her soft, deep features.
Wen Yuxi’s throat tightened, unable to tear her gaze away.
She pulled out a sanitizing wipe to clean her hands, then pinched a piece of popcorn. Leaning closer, she whispered, “Sister.”
“Hmm?” Ming Qian turned her head just as her lips brushed against the popcorn. The sweet, buttery aroma filled her nostrils. Startled, she instinctively recoiled. “Yuxi.”
“Just one,” Wen Yuxi said, tilting her head, her eyes clear and innocent. “Just one. I’ll feed you. Okay?”
Ming Qian couldn’t resist. She opened her lips and took the popcorn, her thick lashes fluttering. “Okay, now eat the rest yourself.”
Wen Yuxi felt a pang of regret. The theater was too dark, and Ming Qian had lowered her head, making it impossible to see her expression.
Is my darling wife blushing?
Wen Yuxi didn’t care about the movie at all. For an hour and a half of the two-hour film, she stole glances at Ming Qian. The remaining half-hour was spent bragging to Liu Yeyin about her wife’s breathtaking beauty.
Liu Yeyin, finally at her wit’s end, blocked her.
As they left the theater, Wen Yuxi rubbed her stiff neck muscles, clutching her unfinished cola. She followed Ming Qian out and asked, “What should we do next?”
“Let’s head back to the hotel,” Ming Qian said, glancing at her phone. “Zeyya bought a cake for your birthday.”
Wen Yuxi sighed contentedly. “Sister Qing is so good to me.”
Ming Qian smiled but remained silent.
Back at the hotel, Wen Yuxi carefully placed the birthday crown on her head under the watchful eyes of Ming Qian and Qing Zeyya. As if afraid of being overheard, she covered her mouth with her hand and whispered, “Can I make a wish?”
Ming Qian chuckled, amused by her antics. “Of course.”
Wen Yuxi closed her eyes, clasped her hands together in a mock-solemn gesture, cleared her throat, and declared with mock righteousness, “It’s getting late. I wish my sister would stay and sleep with me tonight instead of going home!”
Ming Qian: “……”
Qing Zeyya:Â Pfft.
Wen Yuxi took a deep breath, blew out the candles on the cake, and looked up with a cheerful smile. “Sister, do you think my wish will come true?”
Ming Qian met her gaze with a half-smile, her tone unusually light. “Does our birthday girl want her sister to stay with her?”
“Is that not allowed?” Seeing Ming Qian’s straightforwardness, Wen Yuxi suddenly felt embarrassed and backtracked. “I was just joking. If you’re busy with work, just pretend I didn’t say anything…”
“Did I say it wasn’t allowed?” Ming Qian’s smile deepened. “I was planning to stay here tonight anyway.”
“Really?” Wen Yuxi’s eyes widened with delight. “Sleep with me? In the same bed?”
Ming Qian paused for a moment before indulgently replying, “Yes.”
“That’s wonderful!” Wen Yuxi’s heart bloomed with joy, though she remembered to maintain her persona. “I haven’t had anyone to keep me company in ages. Thank you, Sister!”
Ming Qian: “No need to thank me.”
Wen Yuxi: “Oh, right. I forgot.”
Qing Zeyya, standing nearby, wore an auntie-like smile.
President Ming and Miss Wen are so close!
Qing Zeyya took a few bites of the cake Wen Yuxi offered, then bid them goodnight and checked into a separate room at the front desk. As a dutiful assistant, she had to protect her boss’s private world.
Wen Yuxi’s emotions had been agitated all day, reaching a fever pitch by evening. Even her hands trembled as she showered. Counting the days, her High Fever Period was fast approaching, and she dreaded wasting this opportunity as she had before.
Fortunately, her body held up. Wen Yuxi dried her hair and stepped out of the bathroom. Ming Qian sat gracefully on the bed, dressed in a sky-blue silk nightgown, replying to work emails. Seeing her approach, she put down her phone and smiled. “Yuxi, come here.”
Wen Yuxi obeyed, her curiosity piqued. “What is it?”
Ming Qian smiled mysteriously, picked up a small box from the nightstand, and opened it to reveal an exquisite ring.
Wen Yuxi froze, a thought forming in her mind, yet she dared not believe it. “This is…”
“A custom-made wedding ring,” Ming Qian said calmly. “I commissioned it some time ago, and it just arrived in time for your birthday. Consider it a birthday gift.”
Wen Yuxi’s mind went blank, her cheeks burning. She opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out.
Ming Qian gently took Wen Yuxi’s left hand and slipped the ring onto her ring finger. “Your finger size is different from Qingcheng’s. This one fits you perfectly. Wear it whenever you like.”
“Of course I’ll wear it!” Wen Yuxi’s nose tingled with emotion as she smiled. “It’s such a beautiful ring. It would be a waste not to wear it. I’ll wear it every day from now on.”
Ming Qian chuckled. “You really know how to make me happy.”
Wen Yuxi twirled the ring on her finger, unable to take her eyes off it, and changed the subject. “It’s getting late. Should we go to sleep?”
“Sure,” Ming Qian replied.
Wen Yuxi climbed into bed, took a deep breath, and noticed her hands and feet felt a little numb. “Sister, do you want the side by the window or the inside?”
“Either is fine,” Ming Qian said. “Which side do you prefer?”
The standard room had two narrow single beds. After a moment’s thought, Wen Yuxi said, “I’ll take the side by the window.”
Ming Qian teased her, “Aren’t you afraid of falling out?”
“Of course not!” Wen Yuxi pouted. “I’m a very still sleeper.”
