To Sink Into You - Chapter 24
The lights went out, plunging the room into darkness. Moonlight streamed through the sheer curtains, bathing the bed in a clear, silvery glow.
Wen Yuxi lay on her side, her nostrils twitching slightly. The sharp, bitter aroma of black coffee lingered in the air, overwhelming her senses and making it impossible to sleep. She opened her eyes, her gaze lingering boldly on Ming Qian’s delicate profile, her eyes brimming with affection.
What should I do? I want to hold her so badly… and even more, I want to kiss her.
Wen Yuxi was tormented by the yearning in her heart, her earlobes growing hotter, her heart pounding wildly, and her breathing becoming labored. Sensing the changes in her body, her expression darkened, and she cursed under her breath.
No way!
Why does this always happen at the worst possible moment?!
I haven’t even had a chance to enjoy sharing a bed with my wife yet!
The symptoms of the High Fever Period grew increasingly pronounced. Wen Yuxi’s eyes became watery, her mind gradually clouding, leaving only primal urges. She leaned in and embraced Ming Qian, following her instincts, pressing her head close and kissing the woman’s pale cheek.
The soft, burning touch instantly jolted Ming Qian awake. She opened her eyes, looked down at the girl in her arms, and asked in surprise, “Yuxi, what’s wrong?”
Wen Yuxi clung tightly to Ming Qian’s waist, her entire weight pressing against her. She furrowed her brow in discomfort, her voice trembling with a hint of tears. “Ming Qian, help me…”
Sensing something was wrong, Ming Qian reached over and switched on the bedside lamp. She helped Wen Yuxi sit up.
The sudden light made Wen Yuxi squint, but she refused to let go, clinging to Ming Qian like a needy kitten. She straddled Ming Qian’s lap and, in a daze, leaned in to kiss her.
Ming Qian sighed, exasperated by Wen Yuxi’s clinginess. She blocked Wen Yuxi’s pouting lips and pressed a hand to her forehead. The heat was alarming, far exceeding the normal temperature range for a High Fever Period.
The aftereffects hadn’t subsided.
Ming Qian’s expression turned grave. She grabbed her phone and called Qing Zeyya. “Zeyya, Yuxi’s having some complications. Please call an ambulance and get her to the hospital immediately.”
“Yes, President Ming,” Qing Zeyya replied without hesitation.
After hanging up, Ming Qian struggled to restrain Wen Yuxi, wrapping her tightly in a blanket. She quickly got out of bed, administered herself an inhibitor shot, changed her clothes, and prepared to leave.
Wen Yuxi writhed like a caterpillar, tears streaming down her face as she sobbed, “I feel so awful, Ming Qian. I hate you.”
“I’m truly innocent,” Ming Qian said, between laughter and tears. She returned to the bed, freed Wen Yuxi from the covers, and coaxed her, “Let’s get you dressed, okay? We need to go to the hospital.”
“No,” Wen Yuxi stubbornly refused, wrinkling her nose and turning away. Yet she couldn’t resist the temptation and reached out to touch Ming Qian’s waist.
Ming Qian gently patted the back of her hand, scolding playfully, “Only naughty children act like this.”
“I’m not being naughty,” Wen Yuxi mumbled, feverish and disoriented. Wiping away her tears, she spoke incoherently, “I feel so awful… don’t hate me.”
“I don’t hate you,” Ming Qian replied softly, her voice tender as a sigh. “How could I ever hate you?”
Wen Yuxi immediately countered, “Then kiss me.”
Ming Qian paused, speechless.
She pinched Wen Yuxi’s cheek. “Little rascal, let’s get you dressed.”
Wen Yuxi remained stubborn. “I want a kiss.”
“No.”
“I want a kiss~”
“Not even if you beg.”
“Kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss!”
“Not even if you throw a tantrum.”
Wen Yuxi was so furious her head seemed to be steaming, her small face flushed crimson. “No kiss, no change!”
Ming Qian groaned inwardly, completely defeated by this little rascal. She said sternly, “If you don’t change now, I’m going to be angry.”
Wen Yuxi’s subconscious aversion to angering Ming Qian instantly silenced her. She lowered her head and obediently began changing, unable to suppress her sobs, like a child who had done something wrong.
Ming Qian turned her back, waiting until Wen Yuxi was dressed before turning around. Feeling a pang of sympathy, she apologized, “Yuxi, it’s my fault.”
Wen Yuxi looked up through tear-blurred eyes, her voice thick with a stuffy nose. “Then kiss me,” she mumbled.
Ming Qian was at her wit’s end. She finally relented, bending slightly to press a restrained kiss against Wen Yuxi’s smooth forehead. “Is that better now?”
Wen Yuxi froze, touching her forehead, then giggled foolishly a few times before—
Her body swayed, and she fainted.
Ming Qian startled, catching her swiftly. “Yuxi?”
Wen Yuxi’s body was burning hot, completely unconscious.
Fortunately, the ambulance arrived promptly. Ming Qian and Qing Zeyya, who had been waiting at the door, rode with her to the hospital, where doctors immediately began a medical examination.
Ming Qian asked the doctor to collect Wen Yuxi’s glandular hormones and bl00d samples, keeping them viable for delivery to Xiang Jianing early the next morning for research.
The test results were identical to her previous High Fever Period: febrile shock, abnormal pheromone concentration, and irregular glandular hormone levels, with no known treatment.
Wen Yuxi’s condition was critical. Her fever remained stubbornly high at 40°C, unresponsive to suppressants, far more severe than before. Toxins seemed to be accumulating in her body, alternating between lucidity and delirium. The only recourse was physical cooling methods. Ming Qian and Qing Zeyya tended to her bedside until the early hours of the morning.
As dawn broke, Wen Yuxi’s temperature finally stabilized. Ming Qian rubbed her temples wearily and said softly, “Zeyya, go get some rest.”
Qing Zeyya shook her head. “President Ming, given Miss Wen’s condition, she won’t be able to work. I’ll call her supervisor to request leave.”
Ming Qian sighed. “You’re right. I overlooked that. Thank you.”
“Leave it to me.”
With that, Qing Zeyya left the room.
Ming Qian gazed at Wen Yuxi’s restless sleep, her face etched with worry, recalling Ming Yang’s words:
If Xiao Yuxi’s symptoms remain abnormal during her next High Fever Period, you should mark her.
Was there truly no other way?
Ming Qian was a decisive person, never one to waver in her decisions. Yet now, she found herself unusually torn, her mind in turmoil.
She couldn’t afford to take chances, nor could she gamble with Wen Yuxi’s health.
If Wen Yuxi could just return to normal, Ming Qian would do anything.
But…
Ming Qian’s gaze flickered wildly, betraying her inner turmoil.
Marking was an act between loving partners—sacred, blissful, and deeply meaningful.
Though a temporary mark lasted only six months, Omegas retained an indelible bond with the Alpha who first marked them. Ming Qian wasn’t sure if Wen Yuxi would genuinely consent to this treatment plan.
……
Ming Qian suspected Wen Yuxi might have feelings for her, but she couldn’t discern the nature of those feelings. If Wen Yuxi misinterpreted her emotions after the temporary marking, it would undoubtedly cause her potential harm.
Her thoughts felt trapped in a labyrinth, every path ahead strewn with thorns, every choice a mistake.
“Ming Qian…” Wen Yuxi’s hoarse voice broke through the silence. “Sister, what time is it?”
