To Sink Into You - Chapter 26
An Omega’s High Fever Period typically lasts 3 to 7 days. To be safe, Ming Qian had her special assistant, Lan Mei, organize a week’s worth of work tasks so she could work from the hotel.
Wen Yuxi was particularly clingy, sticking to Ming Qian like glue and constantly demanding kisses, her expression a pitiful mix of insatiable desire and wounded innocence. While endearing, it was also utterly exhausting.
As a diligent and responsible assistant, Qing Zeyya had thoughtfully purchased ointment to relieve tendonitis for her boss, preparing in advance to offer it at the first sign of discomfort.
After breakfast, Ming Qian worked at the suite’s desk while Wen Yuxi straddled her lap, remaining quiet and still. Occasionally, she would lean in for a deep kiss, but most of the time she nestled in Ming Qian’s arms, napping while inhaling the rich aroma of black coffee, like a lazy cat.
Having the girl so close was an undeniable temptation for Ming Qian, disrupting her focus and causing her work efficiency to plummet to new lows.
“Why don’t you go sleep properly in bed?” Ming Qian stroked Wen Yuxi’s long hair. “I can’t concentrate with you here.”
“Okay,” Wen Yuxi replied, giving her a quick kiss. Obediently, she rose and returned to the bedroom to catch up on sleep.
At noon, Qing Zeyya knocked and entered with a packed lunch. “President Ming, I’ve put the food on the table. I’ll be leaving now. Call me if you need anything.”
“Alright, thank you.”
Ming Qian set aside her documents and woke Wen Yuxi. “Yuxi, wake up. Lunch is ready.”
“Mm.” Wen Yuxi rubbed her eyes and followed Ming Qian to the small bar counter. Picking up her chopsticks, her eyes darted mischievously as she began to negotiate. “After lunch, we’ll do it three times.”
Ming Qian: “……”
Wen Yuxi pouted, her puppy-dog eyes fixed on Ming Qian. “Is that not okay?”
Ming Qian: “……Okay.”
Two hours later, Ming Qian returned to her desk, stretching her wrist. She rested her forehead in her hand, closing her eyes to recover for a long moment.
If the next few days are going to be like this—three times after every meal…
Ming Qian sighed deeply.
Three days later, Wen Yuxi’s High Fever Period ended. Throughout the ordeal, her condition remained stable, with no further fevers and her spirits steadily improving.
A weight lifted from Ming Qian’s heart. She notified the driver to pick her up that evening, preparing to return to the Imperial Capital to handle unfinished company matters.
With her rationality restored, Wen Yuxi recalled her shameless behavior over the past few days, her cheeks flushing crimson with guilt. “I’m so sorry, Sister. I’ve kept you here for so long.”
“It’s alright,” Ming Qian said, patting Wen Yuxi’s head. A thought struck her. “Yuxi, now that you’ve regained your ability to think clearly, let’s revisit the temporary marking arrangement.”
Wen Yuxi nodded solemnly. “Go ahead.”
Ming Qian hesitated. “I just wanted to ask… what are your thoughts on our intimate relationship for the next six months? Do you feel burdened by it?”
“Of course not! Being temporarily marked by you is far more comfortable than having my brain fried,” Wen Yuxi said, scratching her cheek awkwardly. “Actually… I’m more worried about you feeling burdened.”
Ming Qian remained silent for a long moment before forcing herself to say, “It’s fine. It’s not really a burden.”
Wen Yuxi bit her lip. “If we count the days, I’ll have another High Fever Period at the end of January. You should be able to handle it, right, Sister?”
Ming Qian replied calmly, “Of course. Don’t worry.”
“Oh, by the way, Sister,” Wen Yuxi asked innocently, “you don’t have anyone you like right now, do you?”
“No, I don’t,” Ming Qian answered without hesitation. “Why do you ask?”
“No reason,” Wen Yuxi said, her eyes narrowing slightly as she maintained her harmless smile. “I wouldn’t want to interfere with your love life. I’m relieved to hear that.”
“Don’t worry about that,” Ming Qian said with a smile. “If nothing unexpected happens, I won’t have any romantic life in the future either. But you, you’ll be my Omega for the next six months, unable to approach other Alphas. Is that okay with you?”
“Being Sister Qing’s Omega would be wonderful!” Wen Yuxi winked playfully. “No other Alpha could ever compare to you. I wouldn’t want them anyway.”
Ming Qian’s lips curved into a smile. “Are you wearing rose-tinted glasses?”
Wen Yuxi grinned. “Just telling the truth.”
She could guess that if she confessed her feelings directly now, Ming Qian would likely agree without a second thought. Then, they would use the temporary mark as an excuse to consummate their relationship and spend the rest of their lives together in polite companionship.
It would be a beautiful life, but not the one Wen Yuxi wanted.
Given Ming Qian’s indifferent attitude toward romance, their 89% pheromone compatibility, and their deep bond as childhood friends who knew each other inside and out, Wen Yuxi was undoubtedly the most suitable partner for her.
Yes, merely suitable.
But Wen Yuxi didn’t want mere suitability; she wanted love—a love that ran deep to the bone, a love as enduring as the seas and mountains, a love strong enough to sustain her beliefs, a love that would illuminate the rest of her life.
She was an ambitious woman, and she wanted Ming Qian to fall in love with her.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Ming Qian’s expression flickered before returning to normal.
For the past three days, Qing Zeyya had been the only one to ring the doorbell when delivering meals. After each meal, Ming Qian would be relentlessly pursued by Wen Yuxi for three rounds of intimacy, almost developing a conditioned reflex.
Unaware of Ming Qian’s reaction, Wen Yuxi hurried to open the door. “Sister Qing!”
“Miss Wen,” Qing Zeyya greeted with a strangely maternal smile. “Now that your High Fever Period has passed, how about we dine out tonight?”
Wen Yuxi: “That sounds lovely! What do you think, Sister?”
From inside the room, Ming Qian replied, “Let’s go out. I haven’t left the hotel in three or four days.”
Qing Zeyya: “Very well.”
In the afternoon, Wen Yuxi and Ming Qian finally left the hotel after days of seclusion. They strolled through the nearby streets and found a star-rated restaurant for dinner.
Ming Qian was leaving soon, and Wen Yuxi couldn’t bear to part with her. She sat close, leaning against Ming Qian and playfully asked, “Sister, could you pass me the chopsticks?”
“Of course,” Ming Qian replied.
After four days of tender intimacy, Ming Qian instinctively leaned in to kiss Wen Yuxi when she saw her leaning so close. But she suddenly remembered that the girl’s High Fever Period had ended. Stiffening, she straightened her back, cleared her throat casually, and handed over the chopsticks.
“Here you go.”
“Thank you, Sister,” Wen Yuxi said, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she watched Ming Qian’s every move.
Ming Qian shot her a gentle, reproachful glance, hesitating before speaking.
“I forgot, heh heh,” Wen Yuxi quickly covered her mouth, then added, “But we should still say thank you when it’s appropriate. It’s about respect, not formality.”
“You’re free to say whatever you want,” Ming Qian said softly. “But when we’re together, you don’t need to keep saying ‘thank you.’ Just relax and be yourself, okay?”
“Okay,” Wen Yuxi replied with a smile. “I understand.”
Across the table, Qing Zeyya wore a doting aunt’s smile. The food hadn’t even arrived yet, but she already felt full from watching the two women.
Alpha and Omega couples really are the sweetest, she thought. As a Beta, I’ll just focus on being a hardworking wage earner and saving up for a big house!
