To Sink Into You - Chapter 31
Shortly after her internship ended, final exams were approaching.
Wen Yuxi had been holed up in the library every day, memorizing material until her head ached. She arranged to meet Liu Yeyin for dinner over the weekend to relax and unwind.
After ordering, Wen Yuxi poured a cup of barley tea and asked, “How’s your graduation project coming along?”
Liu Yeyin, a directing major, had started preparing her project back in September. “It’s going okay, barely keeping up. What about yours?”
“About the same,” Wen Yuxi replied casually.
Liu Yeyin’s gaze lingered on the ring on Wen Yuxi’s left hand, a knowing smile playing on her lips. “It’s been so long since we last saw each other, I almost forgot to ask about you and Sister Ming Qian. Looks like things are progressing well?”
“Of course,” Wen Yuxi said proudly, tilting her head to reveal the scent gland on her neck. “I’ve been marked, though it’s just temporary for now. We’re taking things slow, no rush.”
“Impressive.”
As a Beta, Liu Yeyin couldn’t detect the pheromonal changes in an Omega after being marked. But the happiness radiating from Wen Yuxi’s eyes and the corners of her lips was undeniable. As her best friend, she was genuinely happy for her.
“What about you?” Wen Yuxi asked with a smile. “How are things going with Chen Tingyu?”
Chen Tingyu was a sophomore at their university who had auditioned for the lead role in Liu Yeyin’s graduation project. After being cast, the two grew closer, and over the past three months, a spark of romance seemed to have ignited between them.
“No progress,” Liu Yeyin said, pouting and sounding frustrated. “I think she’s deliberately stringing me along. Every time I try to have a serious conversation with her, she changes the subject, like she’s avoiding facing the issue.”
Wen Yuxi comforted her, “Maybe she’s just not ready yet. You’re too impatient. Give it more time—at least until after the graduation project filming is finished. Otherwise, if your relationship hits a snag, it could jeopardize the project’s progress.”
“That makes sense…” Liu Yeyin scratched her cheek, clicking her tongue. “But you’re being way too rational. If you really like someone, you wouldn’t worry about all that.”
“What are you even thinking? Academics obviously come first,” Wen Yuxi frowned. “You can pursue a girlfriend after graduation, but you can’t film your graduation project after graduation. Get a grip.”
Liu Yeyin cupped her face, looking conflicted. “I’m just afraid that by the time I have time for romance, she’ll already be someone else’s girlfriend.”
“So what?” Wen Yuxi raised an eyebrow, her tone dismissive. “If you’re good enough and willing to dig under the wall, what’s meant to be yours will eventually be yours. It’s just a matter of time.”
Liu Yeyin: “……”
Liu Yeyin’s face was lined with exasperation. “Honey, I can vouch for your character, but your views on relationships are definitely a little twisted.”
“You’re overthinking it. I’m not asking you to be a mistress,” Wen Yuxi rolled her eyes. “I’m just suggesting you showcase your charm in front of her, or perhaps uncover the darker, more human side of her feelings for him—”
Liu Yeyin interrupted her. “Isn’t that still sabotaging someone else’s relationship? What’s the difference?”
“A huge difference!” Wen Yuxi retorted. “You’d just be helping her avoid unnecessary detours and pitfalls in love, getting straight to the point. It’s not like you’d be forcing her or hurting anyone. It’s the perfect approach!”
Liu Yeyin: “……”
Yeah, still a tiny bit twisted.
In early January, after the final exams, winter vacation officially began.
That day, Wen Yuxi and Su Xi went to the hospital for their annual check-up. The results were good for both mother and daughter, with all vital signs stable. Su Xi’s bl00d pressure was also within the healthy range.
Wen Yuxi breathed a sigh of relief, finished dinner with her mother, and said goodbye. She took a taxi back to Ink Moon Manor and sat listlessly on the sofa, cuddling Coffee for a while as she waited for Ming Qian to get off work.
Today was the Mingwei Group’s annual gala. As the CEO, Ming Qian naturally had to attend and socialize, likely unable to leave for some time.
“Sigh,” Wen Yuxi, now a wife-waiting stone, stroked Coffee’s small head. “Good boy, I miss my wife.”
“Meow—” Coffee lazily called out, sprawled across his owner’s lap, tail swaying back and forth, stubbornly ignoring her.
Wen Yuxi clicked her tongue, annoyed. “Little brat, you don’t even have a wife. What are you so smug about?”
Coffee: “……”
Coffee raised a paw and stepped on her, then jumped off the sofa grumbling and returned to his nest for a drink.
Empty-nest elder Wen Yuxi sighed heavily. “My wife won’t keep me company, and even my cat ignores me.”
It was late, nearly eleven o’clock, when the annual meeting finally concluded.
In the car on the way home, Ming Qian felt slightly unwell. She pressed her temples, her brows furrowed with fatigue, and her half-closed eyes held a hint of intoxication. Her lips parted slightly as she exhaled slowly.
For some reason, she suddenly felt restless, a simmering anger with nowhere to go. Her bitter black coffee pheromones surged out of control, instantly filling the car with an oppressive intensity.
Shen Kang and Qing Zeyya, both Betas, were completely oblivious to the pheromones and Ming Qian’s distress. They assumed she was simply drunk and resting quietly.
Qing Zeyya pulled out an anti-hangover pill from her bag and offered it to Ming Qian. “President Ming, please take this. You drank quite a bit tonight.”
Ming Qian glanced at the pill, her impeccable manners preventing her from snapping at Qing Zeyya. Her voice remained cool as she replied, “No need.”
Qing Zeyya’s expression shifted to surprise, but she quickly realized what was happening. “President Ming, your Heat Period has arrived.”
“I know,” Ming Qian said, her thin lips pressed into a tight line. She turned to gaze out the car window at the night sky, her tone flat. “No need for suppressants. Just take me home. I have a wife.”
Qing Zeyya nearly burst out laughing, hastily covering her mouth. She replied solemnly, “Understood.”
During their Heat Period, Alphas experience intense emotional fluctuations, becoming irritable, irrational, and prone to aggression. They involuntarily release pheromones and require either Alpha-specific suppressants or the pheromones of a marked Omega for calming.
Shen Kang dared not delay. The Heat Period of an S-Class Alpha was terrifying; neglecting it could easily lead to disaster. He drove to Ink Moon Manor at breakneck speed, his efficiency astonishing.
Qing Zeyya escorted Ming Qian upstairs, ensuring she was safely in Wen Yuxi’s arms before gracefully withdrawing. “Miss Wen, President Ming is in your care now. I’m off work. Have a pleasant evening.”
Wen Yuxi, her arms around Ming Qian’s waist, looked bewildered. “Oh, okay, bye.”
As the door closed, the sharp, cold scent of black coffee gradually intensified in the confined space, subtly invading all senses. Wen Yuxi sensed something was wrong, her breathing quickening. “Sister?”
Ming Qian gripped her waist tightly, pressing a soft, tender kiss against her lips. Her voice, low and husky, murmured, “Yuxi, hold me close.”
“Okay.”
Wen Yuxi and Ming Qian embraced tightly, their hair tangling. Wen Yuxi tasted the rich, wine-like aroma in the woman’s mouth, her soul trembling with excitement, her entire being floating on air.
This is perfect.
Ming Qian’s Heat Period—she had finally waited for it.
