To Sink Into You - Chapter 33
After hanging up the phone, Wen Yuxi hurried to the entrance hall, grabbed her camel-colored wool coat from the rack, and squatted down to change her shoes.
Ming Qian walked over and looked down at her, asking with concern, “Yuxi, what’s wrong?”
Wen Yuxi zipped up her boots and stood up. “Sister Qingcheng has been found by Grandfather. They’re arguing fiercely. I need to go to the Old Mansion to check on her.”
“Wait,” Ming Qian grabbed her hand, her expression suddenly turning cold. “Are you going to abandon me?”
Wen Yuxi paused, then reassured her, “Of course not. We’ll go together. Do we have any Inhibitor patches or injections at home? Why don’t you go look for them first?”
During an Alpha’s Heat Period, their pheromones become uncontrollable. Without Inhibitors, going out could disrupt social order, with severe consequences.
“Stay with me,” Ming Qian insisted, refusing to let go of her hand. “We’ll find the Inhibitors together.”
“Alright,” Wen Yuxi agreed, wanting to give her complete reassurance. She took off her newly put-on boots, took Ming Qian’s hand, and led her back to the bedroom to search for the Inhibitors.
“Where did you put them? Do you remember?”
“Mm,” Ming Qian murmured, pulling open the bedside table drawer and retrieving a bottle of oral Alpha Inhibitor. She shook it. “Here it is.”
Wen Yuxi poured her a glass of water. “Drink it. I’ll wait for you.”
“Mm,” Ming Qian replied, swallowing the Inhibitor and tossing the empty bottle into the trash. She tilted her head and smiled. “Let’s go.”
“Wait a moment,” Wen Yuxi said, taking her arm. Oral Inhibitors take about fifteen minutes to take effect. “The Inhibitor hasn’t kicked in yet.”
“Oh,” Ming Qian said, obediently sitting on the edge of the bed and leaning quietly against Wen Yuxi.
Twenty minutes later, the two took a taxi to the Wen Family’s Old Mansion.
Even from a distance, they could hear the shouting inside. Wen Yuxi took Ming Qian’s hand, greeted the butler at the door, and led her straight into the main hall.
The hall was crowded. Wen Shilin and Wen Jiaguang’s wife sat on the sofa, Wen Qingcheng leaned against a screen with her arms crossed, and Su Xi stood in a corner. Everyone’s expression was grim, and the atmosphere was tense.
When Wen Shilin saw Wen Yuxi and Ming Qian, he froze, his face transforming into a warm smile like a Sichuan opera mask. He rose to his feet. “Qianqian, why didn’t you tell me you were coming to visit Grandfather?”
Ming Qian raised her eyes and said coolly, “Grandfather, Yuxi and I came to check on Qingcheng.”
“Ah, you’ve come to see Qingcheng,” Wen Shilin said, his expression slightly awkward. “I’m sorry, Qianqian. I just caught that wild girl today and was scolding her. I didn’t have time to apologize to you and Ming Yi.”
“I don’t mind,” Ming Qian replied calmly, exchanging a nod with Wen Qingcheng. “Yuxi and I are doing well. I hope Grandfather won’t be too hard on Qingcheng about this. Harmony in the family brings prosperity.”
Wen Shilin raised an eyebrow, surprised by the Ming Family’s magnanimity. After a moment’s thought, he said, “Since Qianqian says so, I won’t pursue the matter further. We can discuss other things later. You rarely visit—stay for dinner tonight.”
Ming Qian glanced at Wen Yuxi. “Should we stay for dinner?”
Wen Yuxi shook her head. “Grandfather, Sister Ming Qian is in her Heat Period and shouldn’t be out too long. Since everything’s settled, we’ll head home now. We’ll visit again when we have more time.”
Wen Shilin reluctantly agreed. “Alright, then you may leave. I still have some things to discuss with Qingcheng, so I won’t see you off.”
Wen Yuxi sensed something was amiss, a foreboding feeling rising in her heart. “What is it?”
“Stop asking questions you shouldn’t,” Wen Shilin said impatiently, brushing her off. “Go back and take good care of your wife. Come visit more often.”
Wen Yuxi frowned and turned to Wen Qingcheng, her eyes asking:Â Has your relationship with Xia Lin been exposed too?
Wen Qingcheng helplessly spread her hands and shrugged, indicating she hadn’t been able to keep it hidden.
Wen Yuxi’s head throbbed. The early exposure of their secrets would undoubtedly complicate their plans.
But now wasn’t the time to address the problem. She needed to prioritize Ming Qian, who was in her Heat Period. “Alright, Grandfather. Sister Ming Qian and I will be leaving now.”
Wen Shilin: “Hmm, go ahead.”
“Xixi,” Su Xi said, stepping beside Wen Yuxi. “Let Mom come with you.”
“Okay.”
The three left the Old Mansion. In the car on the way back, Wen Yuxi asked, “Mom, what were Sister Qingcheng and Grandfather arguing about earlier?”
Su Xi launched into a tirade: “Oh, you wouldn’t believe what that cousin of yours has gotten into this time! She’s dating an Omega—apparently some minor celebrity—and it’s infuriated her parents and Grandfather! Tsk, tsk, tsk.”
Wen Yuxi: “Were they arguing about this before we arrived?”
“Yes,” Su Xi sighed. “Thank goodness you and Qianqian arrived in time. Otherwise, Grandfather would have resorted to violence. That Qingcheng is so stubborn—she refuses to back down even an inch. I’m really worried about her.”
Wen Yuxi pressed her temples. “I understand.”
Su Xi couldn’t wrap her head around it. “Honestly, what’s wrong with her? Being with an Alpha is the ideal for an Omega. Why would she choose a relationship with another Omega? What kind of future can they have? Even being with a Beta would be more stable.”
Wen Yuxi disagreed. “Why can’t they have a future? Whether Alpha, Beta, or Omega, if two people love each other, they should be together.”
“Love means nothing!” Su Xi retorted logically. “The Supervision Center doesn’t recognize same-s3x marriage. They can’t even get a marriage certificate. Isn’t that tragic?”
Wen Yuxi found her mother’s views absurd. “Love is fundamentally a matter between two people. It has nothing to do with anyone else and shouldn’t be restricted by a mere marriage certificate.”
Su Xi gasped, glancing furtively at Ming Qian, who was resting with her eyes closed. Lowering her voice, she asked, “What are you implying? Don’t tell me you’re going to throw away a perfect Alpha like Qianqian and fall for another Omega like your cousin!”
Wen Yuxi was speechless. “How could that be? Didn’t you see us holding hands the whole time?”
“That’s more like it,” Su Xi said, relieved. “But I need to warn you: you won’t find another chance like this. Marrying Qianqian is the luck of a lifetime. Cherish her—you won’t find a more outstanding Alpha anywhere!”
“I know,” Wen Yuxi said, rubbing her nose. “Even if she weren’t an Alpha and I weren’t an Omega, I’d still cherish her.”
Su Xi studied her daughter, teasing, “You sound so devoted. Have you fallen for her?”
“With someone as exceptional as her, who wouldn’t?” Wen Yuxi smiled lazily. “Marrying her is my good fortune, and I won’t take it for granted. You can rest assured.”
Su Xi’s heart nearly burst with joy. “Good, good. You two should live well together. That’s all I want. And if you can, have a child early—it’ll strengthen your bond.”
“Relationships aren’t strengthened by children,” Wen Yuxi said earnestly. “I’m focused on my career right now. We’ll talk about kids later.”
Su Xi conceded, “Alright, it’s your decision.”
