To Sink Into You - Chapter 34
After saying goodbye to Su Xi, the two returned to Ink Moon Manor.
Wen Yuxi helped Ming Qian remove her scarf and coat, warming her slightly cool hands with her own. Her voice was tender as she asked, “Were you upset that I couldn’t hold you outside?”
Ming Qian wrapped her arms around Wen Yuxi’s waist and mumbled, “No.”
“You’re so wonderful, Sister Ming Qian,” Wen Yuxi cooed, pressing a kiss to her soft lips. “Go take a hot bath.”
Ming Qian returned the kiss, her voice low. “Together.”
Wen Yuxi naturally didn’t refuse.
After two hours of playful splashing, they emerged from the bathroom, ate dinner, and retreated to the bedroom. Ming Qian nestled into Wen Yuxi’s arms, whispering, “Hold me tight.”
Wen Yuxi tightened her embrace, cradling the warm, soft woman against her chest. She lowered her head and kissed Ming Qian’s long, dark hair. “Sleep now. I’m here.”
Ming Qian nuzzled into the crook of Wen Yuxi’s neck, found a comfortable position, closed her eyes, and her breathing gradually evened out.
Once Ming Qian was asleep, Wen Yuxi carefully retrieved her phone, dimmed the screen, and texted Wen Qingcheng:Â How’s it going?
Wen Qingcheng:Â They won’t listen to reason! My parents and that old man are all pressuring me to break up with Linlin. It’s so annoying.
Wen Yuxi:Â How long can you hold out?
Wen Qingcheng:Â They won’t let me see Linlin. I can’t stand even a minute apart from her.
Wen Yuxi sighed and typed:Â Calm down. It’s not the right time yet.
Wen Qingcheng:Â Have you won over Sister Ming Qian yet?
Wen Yuxi:Â It’s just the fleeting sweetness of her Heat Period. We’re far from there.
Wen Qingcheng:Â So I’m just supposed to keep biding my time?
Wen Yuxi:Â Don’t rush. Once Ming Qian’s Heat Period ends, I’ll talk to her.
Wen Qingcheng:Â Fine. But hurry! I want to spend New Year’s with Linlin. It’s less than half a month until Lunar New Year’s Eve.
Wen Yuxi thought for a moment. If you’re desperate, sneak out again on a dark and stormy night.
Wen Qingcheng:Â …Easier said than done.
Wen Yuxi:Â Enough chatter. Sleep. We’ll talk later.
Wen Qingcheng:Â I heard Alphas are particularly persistent during their Heat Period. Since I can’t sleep with my wife these days, you two better make up for both of us!
Wen Yuxi:Â Thanks for the invitation. I’ve already put in four hours today, morning and night combined.
Wen Qingcheng:Â …
Having thoroughly embarrassed herself, Wen Qingcheng stopped replying.
Three days later, on a crisp morning, Ming Qian’s Heat Period came to an end.
Wen Yuxi was reluctant to part with their cozy, affectionate days, but she didn’t dare overstep with Ming Qian in her clear-headed state. She asked glumly, “Is Sister Ming Qian going to work?”
“Mm-hmm,” Ming Qian replied, applying makeup in front of the mirror. “I’ve fallen behind on work lately. I’ll probably have to work late tonight. Let’s have Aunt Yang cook dinner.”
Wen Yuxi felt a pang of emptiness. “Oh.”
Ming Qian capped her lipstick and asked with concern, “What’s wrong?”
Wen Yuxi gave her a mournful look. “Nothing.”
A faint blush crept across Ming Qian’s cheeks as she recalled something. “Have I been… bullying you these past few days?” she asked, her voice tinged with embarrassment.
This was her first Heat Period without Inhibitors, a time when every emotional need was indulged. It felt like being immersed in warm water, so overwhelmingly comforting that it fueled an insatiable desire to demand more.
No matter how capricious she became, Wen Yuxi had patiently endured it all without complaint. Ming Qian imagined the resentment that must have been building within her.
The more Ming Qian thought about it, the more ashamed she felt. As the elder one, she should have been mature and rational, yet she had acted like a clueless child. Whether as a sister or a wife, she had utterly failed to live up to her roles.
“I’m sorry,” she said guiltily. “It was my fault.”
“Don’t apologize,” Wen Yuxi smiled. “You were just as understanding during my High Fever Period. We support each other equally—no debts owed, only gratitude allowed.”
Ming Qian’s long lashes fluttered gently. “Alright,” she said softly. “I’m grateful to you.”
Wen Yuxi blinked. “Since you’re so grateful, would it be too much to ask for a small favor?”
“Go ahead.”
“Your office… wouldn’t mind one more person, would it?” Wen Yuxi emphasized. “I promise I won’t disturb your work. I’ve saved up so many beauty tutorial videos to watch. I’ll be quiet as a mouse.”
Ming Qian couldn’t help but laugh. “Alright, let’s go together then.”
Ten minutes later, Qing Zeyya, waiting downstairs, watched Ming Qian and Wen Yuxi walk side by side toward her. Her eyes widened in surprise. “President Ming, is Miss Wen coming to the office with you?”
“Mm,” Ming Qian replied curtly, opening the car door and buckling her seatbelt. “Let’s go.”
Through the rearview mirror, Shen Kang exchanged a warm glance with Wen Yuxi. “Miss Wen, your seatbelt.”
“Oh, I forgot,” Wen Yuxi said, tugging the strap across her chest and fastening it. She gritted her teeth inwardly. Shen Kang’s reminder had foiled her plan to have Ming Qian buckle her in.
Uncle Shen’s overbearing affection was sweet, but it was certainly hindering her attempts to flirt with her wife.
As the car pulled out of the residential complex, Wen Yuxi organized her thoughts and asked Ming Qian, “Sister, do you remember when we visited Sister Qingcheng at the Old Mansion a few days ago?”
Ming Qian: “Yes, what about it?”
“Her relationship with her girlfriend has been discovered by her parents and grandfather. They forbid them from being together and haven’t budged for days. Sister Qingcheng is under house arrest and in a very difficult situation. She might need our help.”
Ming Qian frowned. “Why won’t they let them be together?”
Wen Yuxi: “Because Sister Qingcheng’s girlfriend is also an Omega.”
Ming Qian raised an eyebrow, then lowered her gaze in thought. “What can we do to help them?”
“Offer her a job,” Wen Yuxi said. “Sister Qingcheng plans to cut ties with her family. You know she’s a singer at Morning Star Entertainment. Defying her grandfather will definitely get her blacklisted. That’s why I want to ask you to sign her.”
Ming Qian replied honestly, “Signing an artist involves the company’s interests, so I need time to consider. Qingcheng’s contract with Morning Star Entertainment hasn’t expired yet, right? How much would the breach of contract penalty be?”
“I don’t know yet,” Wen Yuxi said, pursing her lips. “It would be great if you could sign her, but it’s not a big deal if you can’t. This is just one possible solution, so don’t feel pressured, Sister.”
Ming Qian nodded. “I’ll think it over carefully.”
Wen Yuxi breathed a sigh of relief and continued, “Sister Qingcheng’s girlfriend is Xia Lin, an actress. She went to the same university as me and is signed with Chu’s Shancheng Entertainment. She was blacklisted for refusing President Chu’s sexual harassment and now survives by playing minor roles.”
“You can find her profile and past TV dramas online. If your company needs talent, you might consider her. However, her contract with Shancheng Entertainment still has four years left, so the breach of contract penalty would likely be substantial.”
Ming Qian listened attentively. “Okay.”
Wen Yuxi remained concerned. “Make sure to assess their commercial value before signing them. Don’t take a loss. Sister Qingcheng is such a proud person; she’d never want to feel like she’s being given charity.”
Ming Qian smiled. “I understand. I will.”
Wen Yuxi: “Then I’m counting on you, Sister.”
