To Sink Into You - Chapter 35
The Mingwei Group Building, a towering skyscraper in the heart of the city’s commercial district, pierced the clouds. The surrounding streets, a labyrinth of bustling thoroughfares, pulsed with the frenetic energy and prosperity unique to urban life.
Wen Yuxi followed Ming Qian into the elevator and up to the 22nd floor. As they walked to the office, employees greeted Ming Qian warmly at every turn.
“Good morning, President Ming.”
“President Ming.”
“Good morning, President Ming.”
Ming Qian responded with a flawless smile and a nod to each greeting. After navigating a few turns, she led Wen Yuxi into the CEO’s office and closed the door behind them.
The office was vast, furnished in a minimalist, monochrome style. Black and white furniture dominated the space, while a towering bookshelf wall stretched to the ceiling, drawing the eye. A matching silver desk and chair, along with a suspended pendant light, occupied the center of the room.
Wen Yuxi eagerly explored the space, spotting a hidden door on the right-hand wall. She guessed it led to a private lounge.
Ming Qian, seated at her desk organizing documents, glanced at her and casually remarked, “Go ahead and go in. There’s a bed inside.”
Wen Yuxi grinned. “Okay!”
Qing Zeyya received a task from the Boss: to buy snacks for Miss Wen. After leaving the supermarket, laden with bags, she ran into Lan Mei in the elevator on her way back to the office.
Lan Mei was Ming Qian’s special assistant, a female Beta known for her exceptional competence, decisive action, and sharp intelligence. For years, Qing Zeyya had admired her as a role model and professional ideal.
“Sister Lan!” Qing Zeyya’s eyes lit up as she greeted her with a smile. “Are you going to President Ming’s office too?”
“Mm-hmm,” Lan Mei replied, adjusting her gold-rimmed glasses and glancing down at the bags in Qing Zeyya’s hands. “What’s this?”
“President Ming asked me to buy them,” Qing Zeyya explained. “You probably didn’t know, but Miss Wen is accompanying President Ming to work today.”
“I heard,” Lan Mei said coolly. “The moment I arrived at the office, I overheard a group gossiping about President Ming bringing his wife to work and how affectionate they seemed.”
Qing Zeyya beamed with maternal fondness. “I think so too! President Ming and Miss Wen are really sweet together.”
Lan Mei shot her a sidelong glance, a hint of amusement in her eyes. “Does your job description include discussing your superior’s romantic life?”
Qing Zeyya shrank back, immediately falling silent.
So scary…
The elevator doors opened, and they stepped out into the office.
Lan Mei placed the folder she was carrying on the desk and began reporting to Ming Qian. Qing Zeyya knocked on the break room door and delivered the snacks to Wen Yuxi.
Wen Yuxi, wearing Bluetooth headphones and watching her tablet, widened her eyes in surprise. “For me? Thank you, Sister Qing! There’s so much, I can’t possibly finish it all.”
“Miss Wen, you’re welcome. President Ming instructed me to buy these,” Qing Zeyya said with a smile. “She said to get plenty so you can keep them here and enjoy them whenever you visit.”
Wen Yuxi grinned. “Got it! Please thank Sister Ming Qian for me.”
“Of course. I won’t disturb you any longer.” Qing Zeyya withdrew from the lounge. After Lan Mei and Ming Qian finished their discussion, she said, “President Ming, Miss Wen asked me to thank you on her behalf.”
Ming Qian smiled faintly. “I’m aware.”
Lan Mei: “President Ming, I’ll be leaving now.”
Ming Qian nodded. “Go ahead. Remember what I asked you to do.”
Qing Zeyya: “President Ming, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving too.”
“Go ahead.”
Leaving the office, Qing Zeyya cheerfully asked, “Sister Lan, shall we have lunch together?”
Lan Mei raised an eyebrow. “Thinking about lunch before nine o’clock?”
Qing Zeyya: “I’m just securing the reservation early! You’re so popular, Sister Lan. Last time I tried to invite you, Sister Wang snatched you up first.”
Lan Mei patted Wen Qingcheng’s head and said lightly, “We’ll talk about it later.”
At noon, Ming Qian finished her work. She stretched in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, then took Wen Yuxi, who was engrossed in beauty tutorial videos, out for lunch.
A little over ten minutes later, they arrived at a nearby Japanese restaurant, ordered their food, and Wen Yuxi’s phone suddenly rang.
She answered, “Hello?”
Wen Qingcheng’s voice was tearful. “Xixi, I couldn’t take it anymore. I completely broke ties with them.”
Wen Yuxi paused, glanced at Ming Qian, and asked softly, “Where are you now?”
Wen Qingcheng sniffled. “I got kicked out and don’t know where to go.”
Wen Yuxi frowned. “What about Linlin? Why don’t you go to her?”
“She has a role to play next week and is at home memorizing her lines. I don’t want to disturb her,” Wen Qingcheng said pitifully. “Come out and drink with me. I’m so miserable, waah…”
Wen Yuxi sighed. “Did you bring your ID and other documents?”
“Yes.”
“Do you have any money on you?”
“A little, maybe a few hundred yuan.”
“That’s enough. Take a taxi to the Mingwei Group Building. Call me when you get there.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Wen Yuxi told Ming Qian, “Sister Qingcheng had a falling-out with her family and got kicked out. She wants me to drink with her, so I might have to leave early.”
“That’s fine,” Ming Qian nodded understandingly. “Should I make a decision about Qingcheng’s job offer in advance?”
Wen Yuxi hesitated. “It’s still uncertain. I’ll talk to her first.”
“Alright.”
Halfway through their meal, Wen Yuxi was called away by Wen Qingcheng.
The sisters found a bar and settled into a corner booth. Wen Yuxi grumbled, “I had to leave my wife halfway through lunch to come here.”
Wen Qingcheng’s nose was red. “Thank you.”
Wen Yuxi poured her a drink. “Tell me what happened.”
Wen Qingcheng wiped away her tears and took a large gulp of alcohol. “This morning at breakfast, they started scolding me as usual, and I snapped back as usual. Then the old man suddenly started yelling at Linlin. How could I stand for that?”
Wen Yuxi chuckled heartlessly. “You’re so impatient.”
Wen Qingcheng pouted. “Who’s more patient than you, you black-hearted devil?”
Wen Yuxi raised an eyebrow with a smirk. “And then?”
“Then I got mad and said, ‘What’s wrong with being an Omega? What’s wrong with being an actress? Who says Omegas have to be with Alphas? I refuse! Love knows no gender, and I want to be with Xia Lin!'”
Wen Yuxi chuckled. It was exactly the kind of rebellious thing her cousin, Wen Qingcheng, would say.
“The old man nearly fainted when he heard that, and my dad was furious. He grabbed the old man’s cane and beat me with it,” Wen Qingcheng said, pointing to her back. “He whipped me several times. If my mom hadn’t stopped him, he probably would have killed me.”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Wen Yuxi’s expression changed instantly. She stood up abruptly, snatched Wen Qingcheng’s wine glass, and snapped, “How can you be so careless? Drinking alcohol when you’re injured? Get to the hospital immediately!”
Wen Qingcheng shrugged. “It’s nothing serious.”
“Nothing serious?” Wen Yuxi’s face turned icy. “Don’t you know how crazy your dad can get when he’s angry? How can you be sure there’s no internal damage? Are you trying to shorten your life? Should I tell Xia Lin?”
Wen Qingcheng immediately backed down, muttering, “Just say what you need to say. Why threaten me with her?”
