To Sink Into You - Chapter 36
Before they could even finish their drinks, Wen Yuxi and Wen Qingcheng hurried out of the bar and rushed to the nearest hospital for medical checkups.
Wen Qingcheng’s injuries were more severe than they had imagined. Dark purple bruises covered her slender back, their grotesque appearance obscuring the black and white rose tattoo—her eighteenth birthday gift to herself.
After the X-rays, the doctor tended to Wen Qingcheng’s slightly bleeding wounds, her maternal instincts kicking in. “Oh my goodness, what happened? An Omega shouldn’t have to endure such suffering.”
“I had a fight with my family,” Wen Qingcheng replied cheerfully, wincing in pain. “They disapprove of my relationship… Sister, please be gentle.”
“I’m old enough to be your aunt, yet you still call me ‘sister’,” the doctor chuckled. “You young people are so impulsive, ready to die for love… By the way, where’s your Alpha?”
“My partner isn’t an Alpha, she’s an Omega,” Wen Qingcheng said proudly. “My girlfriend is gorgeous—a famous star. You must have seen her on TV.”
The doctor froze for a moment, her pupils widening in shock. Her tone shifted noticeably. “Really? People my age don’t usually watch much TV anymore.”
She studied Wen Qingcheng as if observing a rare species, inwardly criticizing, An Omega not with an Alpha, but with someone of the same s3x? That’s downright scandalous! No wonder her family beat her so badly.
Beside her, Wen Yuxi sighed, rubbing her forehead. My cousin lives too freely—proud, unrestrained, and indifferent to societal norms. It’s inevitable that conventional people will see her as an outsider.
Shortly after the wound treatment, the examination results came back. The bruises wouldn’t fade quickly, but fortunately, there were no bone fractures or internal organ damage. Wen Qingcheng could recover at home.
The doctor prescribed medication to improve bl00d circulation and reduce bruising, advising, “Take the medicine as prescribed. Apply cold compresses within the first 24 hours, then switch to warm compresses after 48 hours. Full recovery will take time, so don’t rush it. Avoid strenuous exercise during this period.”
“Understood.”
By the time they left the hospital, it was already afternoon. Wen Qingcheng grinned. “Just a simple bruise, nothing serious. Now we can finally have a proper drink, right?”
“No way,” Wen Yuxi retorted, rolling her eyes. “I’ll call Xia Lin to come keep you company.”
Wen Qingcheng’s beautiful eyes widened. “Hey, hey, hey! That’s so unfair! I’m still your cousin!”
“Not even if you were my own sister,” Wen Yuxi said coldly, crossing her arms. “You’ve severed ties with the family. If we need to discuss plans, what’s the point of keeping it from Linlin?”
Wen Qingcheng choked, gritting her teeth. “Your wife should see this cold, heartless side of you.”
Wen Yuxi smirked. “Sorry, my wife thinks even my grumpy moods are cute.”
Wen Qingcheng was speechless. “Can’t we at least wait until after dinner to tell Linlin? I need to organize my thoughts.”
Wen Yuxi unlocked her phone. “It’s already past five. It’ll be more efficient to have her join us for dinner. Besides, it’s winter—you’re bundled up so much Linlin won’t notice anything unless you tell her. Once we’ve discussed business, hurry and leave with her. I need to get back home for some quality time with my wife.”
Wen Qingcheng: “……”
My sister’s heart is so ruthless.
Wen Yuxi waved her phone. “You want to call her, or should I?”
Wen Qingcheng: “……I will.”
After Wen Qingcheng called Xia Lin, the two women found a restaurant and chatted while waiting for her to arrive.
Wen Qingcheng, substituting tea for wine, said gloomily, “The day I confirmed my relationship with Linlin, I knew the future would be incredibly difficult. But… when things actually reached this point, I still felt a pang of sadness.”
Wen Yuxi remained silent.
The rims of Wen Qingcheng’s eyes reddened slightly. “From childhood until now, my father never once raised his voice at me. I always thought he doted on me and loved me unconditionally. Only now do I realize his love came with strings attached. All his nurturing was just to make me more valuable, so I could marry a powerful Alpha.”
Wen Yuxi handed her a tissue, offering a detached assessment. “Good. After being pampered in their greenhouse for so many years, it’s time you stepped out and tasted the bitterness of the real world.”
“Yeah,” Wen Qingcheng laughed through tears. “Before, I was no different from a decorative vase. I know you and Wen Keyu looked down on me back then, thinking I was utterly useless.”
Wen Yuxi didn’t deny it. “It wasn’t personal. I despise anyone with an empty head.”
“Who has an empty head? This lady is a renowned musical prodigy! If it weren’t for that old man’s blacklist, I’d have taken the entertainment world by storm long ago!” Wen Qingcheng’s lips twitched as she couldn’t help but curse her. “With that sharp tongue of yours, it’s a miracle you managed to snag a wife!”
Wen Yuxi grinned. “None of your business. I’m sweet as honey to my wife.”
Wen Qingcheng scoffed, “Keep pretending. Your act will slip sooner or later.”
Wen Yuxi neither confirmed nor denied, changing the subject. “Are you interested in history?”
“History?”
“Yeah, before the Xin Xin Calendar, the Third and Fourth World Wars hadn’t broken out yet. The planet hadn’t suffered catastrophic damage, and humans hadn’t undergone secondary differentiation,” Wen Yuxi explained. “High school history class covered it—back then, humans weren’t divided into Alphas, Omegas, and Betas. There were only the original women and men.”
Wen Qingcheng nodded. “Right. It’s amazing how ancient humans only had two genders. How boring!”
Wen Yuxi chuckled. “So, by those standards, Ming Qian and I would actually be considered a same-s3x couple.”
“Ancient humans had much higher fertility rates than we do, but their society required a massive population to function. That’s why same-s3x marriage was forbidden. They fought for years to finally win the right to happiness.”
“History repeats itself. We’re still walking the same path as our ancestors: Omega equality, reproductive freedom, employment for the poor, environmental protection, same-s3x marriage, diplomatic peace… The core issues remain largely unchanged.”
“Therefore, as long as we persist in our struggle, everything we desire will one day be achieved. Pushing the heavy wheel of progress requires the efforts of generations, but we will eventually see the dawn.”
“Oh—” Wen Qingcheng’s mood brightened slightly. She teased, “After all that, you were just trying to comfort me in a roundabout way, weren’t you?”
“Think what you like,” Wen Yuxi said expressionlessly, taking a sip of water.
Wen Qingcheng laughed so hard she slapped the table. “Oh my god, you’re such a tsundere! If you want to comfort your big sister, just say it! You awkward thing.”
Wen Yuxi ignored her, scoffing softly, “Narcissist.”
“I get your point now,” Wen Qingcheng said with a sigh, her expression turning serious. “It’s all about perseverance, right? Linlin and I can definitely do that.”
Wen Yuxi rested her chin in her hand, her long lashes veiling the emotions in her eyes. “You’re that confident in your relationship?”
“Of course!” Wen Qingcheng beamed. “She chased after me for over a year! She must be head over heels for me, and I’m head over heels for her too.”
Wen Yuxi’s lips curved into a faint smile. “That’s good.”
