To Sink Into You - Chapter 43
“I don’t want you and Dad to be angry,” Wen Yuxi said, wiping away her tears. “I know Dad gave me the medicine because he thought it was for my own good. He probably didn’t realize there would be side effects. I don’t blame him, Mom, and you shouldn’t either. I’m just sad that I’ll never be able to have children.”
Su Xi’s lips trembled, her face as pale as paper. She could barely believe what she was hearing. “What? Your father… your father gave you the medicine?”
Wen Yuxi sobbed uncontrollably, repeating, “Mom, don’t blame Dad… please don’t blame him…”
Su Xi wrapped her arms around Wen Yuxi’s slender shoulders, her heart aching for her daughter’s maturity and freezing at her husband’s cold-heartedness. Tears streamed down her face as she accused, “Wen Jiayang, have you gone mad? Xixi is your own daughter! How could you scheme against her like this?”
Wen Jiayang was speechless. Seeing Wen Yuxi’s breakdown, he couldn’t bring himself to scold her and instead shifted all the blame onto Su Xi:
“Isn’t this all because of you? If you hadn’t kept pressuring me about wanting Xixi to have children, would I have panicked?”
“Blame me?” Su Xi laughed bitterly. After all this time, she finally saw the true face of the man beside her. “It wasn’t for me, and it wasn’t for Xixi. It was all for yourself!”
Wen Jiayang, stung to the core, erupted in fury. “What nonsense are you spouting?!”
“Nonsense?” Su Xi retorted. “Wen Jiayang, ask yourself honestly: did you want Xixi to bear the Ming Family’s child to satisfy your own vanity? To show off to Grandfather? To use it as a stepping stone to climb back up?”
“How could you be so selfish? Drugging your own daughter for such a thing? Xixi is your flesh and bl00d! Do you even have a heart? How could you bring yourself to do that?”
Each word dripped with anguish, each syllable pierced his heart.
Wen Jiayang’s face paled, his shame and anger intensifying. His trampled pride made him seethe. Even if he had done wrong, what right did Su Xi, his wife, have to criticize her husband?
“What good will your tears do?” Wen Jiayang snarled coldly. “So I’m not perfect? Are you any better? Who’s the one earning money to support this family? You? You sit around all day doing nothing, living entirely off my income. What right do you have to judge me?”
“…Yes,” Su Xi said, suddenly calm. She took a deep breath, wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, and continued, “Yes, Wen Jiayang, the biggest mistake of my life was listening to your sweet talk, quitting my job, and dedicating myself entirely to serving you at home.”
Wen Jiayang sneered. “What’s this? Losing the argument, so you’re digging up old grievances now? Did I force you back then? You were just naive and foolish. Who else is to blame but yourself?”
“I was indeed foolish—utterly, hopelessly foolish—to believe that love was all that mattered.” Su Xi smiled with newfound clarity. “But thankfully, I’m awake now.”
She raised her head and declared in the calmest voice she could muster, “Wen Jiayang, I want a divorce.”
Wen Jiayang’s composure cracked like parched earth, inch by inch. He thought he must have misheard. “What did you say?”
Throughout their marriage, Wen Jiayang had beaten and verbally abused Su Xi countless times. No matter how badly he hurt her, she always softened when he begged for forgiveness. Today, after just a few harsh words, she was demanding a divorce?
Unreasonable. Utterly unreasonable.
“Was I not clear enough?” Su Xi clutched Wen Yuxi tightly, her heart heavy with guilt. Her voice was cold as she continued, “It’s all my fault for being too weak, giving you the opportunity to hurt us. You harmed my daughter—how could you possibly expect us to stay by your side?”
Wen Jiayang’s eyes burned with fury, veins bulging on his forehead. “How dare you—”
Su Xi stood her ground. “How dare I? Wen Jiayang, even if you beat me to death today, I’m divorcing you!”
Wen Jiayang slammed his fist on the table, sending dishes crashing to the floor. “You think I wouldn’t kill you?!” he roared.
Su Xi trembled, but she held Wen Yuxi tightly in her arms, sobbing, “Go ahead, you beast! Kill me!”
Suddenly, Wen Yuxi let out a pained groan, arching her back in uncontrollable convulsions before collapsing into unconsciousness.
“Xixi! Xixi!” Su Xi cradled her daughter’s head, panic rising in her voice. “What’s wrong? Don’t scare Mommy like this!”
Wen Jiayang’s anger instantly vanished, replaced by panic. “Xixi!”
“Call an ambulance now!” Su Xi’s bloodshot eyes blazed with fierce hatred, like a wild wolf who had lost her cub. “If anything happens to my daughter, I’ll make you pay with your life!”
Wen Jiayang froze, stunned by the raw aggression he had never witnessed in his wife before.
It was truly over.
About ten minutes later, the ambulance arrived at the hospital, and Wen Yuxi was rushed into the emergency room.
“All her vital signs are relatively stable. It seems she fainted due to low bl00d sugar. She’ll be fine after some rest,” the doctor reassured them after the examination. “Family members, please don’t worry too much. There’s nothing serious. Just two bags of glucose, and she can go home.”
Su Xi’s heart finally relaxed. “Thank you, thank you, Doctor.”
“You’re welcome.”
Su Xi and Wen Jiayang returned to Wen Yuxi’s hospital room. The ordeal had calmed their nerves, leaving them staring at each other in suffocating silence.
“Let’s just end it,” Su Xi said, sitting on the edge of the bed and taking Wen Yuxi’s hand, her voice hoarse and weak. “For the sake of our marriage, I beg you, please let our mother and daughter go.”
Wen Jiayang opened his mouth, but his throat tightened, and he couldn’t utter a word.
Su Xi’s expression was desperate as she forced a bitter smile. “I’ll kneel for you, okay? Please, have mercy and let us go.”
“Don’t kneel,” Wen Jiayang said, rubbing his face in frustration, a hint of regret surfacing for the first time. “I agree. I’ll divorce you. Just don’t kneel.”
“Mom…” Wen Yuxi struggled to open her eyes, her voice dry. “Is this the hospital? What happened to me?”
“You’re okay, Xixi,” Su Xi soothed, stroking her cheek. “You’re perfectly fine. Just low bl00d sugar. Don’t be scared, okay?”
Wen Yuxi’s eyes glistened with tears. “I just overheard… you’re getting divorced…”
Su Xi forced a smile. “Yes, your father and I are divorcing. Xixi, you’re grown up now, married, and have your own family. There’s no need for us to keep tormenting each other.”
Wen Jiayang remained uncharacteristically silent.
Wen Yuxi bit her lower lip, as if struggling to suppress her emotions. “I understand. It’s okay. If that’s what you’ve decided, then it’s fine.”
As she turned her head, she seemed to remember something. “Mom, I want to talk to Dad alone for a few minutes.”
“Alright,” Su Xi nodded, leaving the room and carefully closing the door behind her.
Wen Jiayang moved to the bedside. “Xixi, I’m here.”
“Dad, don’t blame Mom,” Wen Yuxi said softly, her brow furrowing slightly. “She just loves me too much. If it weren’t for the side effects of that Forced High Fever Agent, she wouldn’t have divorced you.”
The anger that had been building in Wen Jiayang’s chest finally found an outlet, and he suddenly understood.
That’s right! This isn’t my fault at all. It’s the side effects of the Forced High Fever Agent! That damned agent ruined my family, drove my wife away, and tore us apart!
Damn it!
