To Sink Into You - Chapter 9
Realizing his lapse in composure, Wen Jiayang softened his expression and quickly recovered, saying, “That’s not what I meant. I just want you to cherish Ming Qian. You won’t find a partner as good as her again.”
“I know,” Wen Yuxi replied impatiently. “If that’s all you wanted to say, I’m going back to my room.”
Wen Jiayang’s expression stiffened momentarily. His fist, hidden beneath the table, clenched and then relaxed as he slowly said, “Alright, go get some sleep. Get a good night’s rest.”
Wen Yuxi gave a perfunctory “hmm” and rose from her chair. She left the study, returned to the guest bedroom, glanced up briefly, and then quietly closed the door behind her.
Ming Qian was on a work call.
Housing prices in the Imperial Capital were exorbitant. Without financial support from the Wen Family, the three of them couldn’t afford a large apartment. With limited rooms, Wen Yuxi and Ming Qian had to share a bedroom.
What a perfect setup, Wen Yuxi thought, exhaling deeply. Despite her satisfaction, a nervous tension crept in.
This was the first time she would be sharing a bed with Ming Qian.
“What’s wrong?” Ming Qian asked, turning around after finishing her call. Noticing the girl’s flushed cheeks, she asked with concern, “Are you feeling hot? Should I turn down the air conditioning?”
“No, it’s fine,” Wen Yuxi quickly waved her hand. “I’ll just take a shower.”
Sleeping with someone she liked was too overwhelming for Wen Yuxi. Even the glands at the back of her neck throbbed faintly.
Clutching her wildly pounding heart, she grabbed her pajamas and hurried into the bathroom. After stripping off her clothes, she turned on the shower, lowered her head to adjust the water temperature, and planned to wash herself until she smelled sweet and fresh.
“Strange…”
Ice-cold droplets hit her skin, and Wen Yuxi frowned. The temperature was clearly set low, so why was she still so hot?
Something was wrong.
This heat felt unnatural.
Wen Yuxi suddenly realized:
It was her heat cycle.
Had her heat cycle really started early?
Instinctively, she turned up the water temperature. Omegas in heat were extremely vulnerable; cold water could easily make them sick.
In just a few seconds, her entire body flushed a delicate pink, the corners of her eyes tinged with red. Her breathing grew rapid, her pupils swam in a watery haze, her limbs felt weak, and her glands burned with pain.
No… this wasn’t right…
This wasn’t like her usual heat cycle.
What was happening?
Her mind grew hazy, and Wen Yuxi couldn’t think clearly. A wave of dizziness washed over her, and she collapsed forward uncontrollably. She instinctively grabbed the shelf for support, but her strength failed her, and she knocked shampoo and shower gel bottles to the floor with a clatter.
Hearing the commotion outside, Ming Qian hurried to the bathroom door, her voice filled with concern. “Yuxi, what’s wrong?”
No response.
An ominous feeling surged through Ming Qian’s heart, her expression turning serious. “Yuxi, can you hear me? I’m opening the door in five seconds.”
Still no reply.
After silently counting to five, Ming Qian’s gaze sharpened, and she decisively pulled open the bathroom door.
In the next instant, the overwhelming scent of rosemary, mingled with humid water vapor, flooded her senses—hot, sweet, and suffocating, like a suffocating embrace.
After a brief moment of disorientation, Ming Qian immediately realized that Wen Yuxi’s feverish period had begun.
As the steam cleared, the girl’s bare back came into view—its slender curves, skin as white as jade, and long hair cascading messily across it. Lower down…
Ming Qian averted her gaze, her lashes trembling slightly. She turned off the shower, grabbed the bath towel hanging on the door, and carefully draped it over Wen Yuxi, her voice hoarse:
“Yuxi, can you hear me? I can’t get too close. Can you stand up on your own?”
Wen Yuxi showed no reaction whatsoever, making one wonder if she was still alive.
Ming Qian realized her initial assessment had been wrong.
The heat cycle wouldn’t cause an Omega to lose consciousness.
She immediately returned to the bedside, grabbed her phone to call for an ambulance, then retrieved a suppressant from her bag and injected it into a vein in her forearm without hesitation.
She had to suppress the primal urges rooted in her Alpha genes.
Having done this, Ming Qian reentered the bathroom. The sweet scent of rosemary hung in the air, constantly tugging at the strings of her rationality, yet she remained composed. She wrapped Wen Yuxi in a bath towel and gently carried her to the bed.
Rapid heartbeat, elevated body temperature, swollen glands, and leaking pheromones—these were indeed symptoms of the heat cycle.
But how could the heat cycle cause someone to fall into a coma?
Ming Qian couldn’t understand.
A thought began to take shape in her mind, only to be swiftly shattered.
Impossible.
They had been at the Wen Family residence all day, without contact with any outsiders. It couldn’t be.
“Huff…”
Ming Qian’s thoughts felt sluggish. Although the injectable suppressant acted quickly, the heat cycle’s influence on an Omega was profound. If they remained alone together much longer, she feared she would lose control.
She absolutely couldn’t allow that to happen.
Lowering her gaze, Ming Qian left the room, turned right, and knocked on the master bedroom door.
A moment later, Su Xi opened the door, her voice laced with concern. “Qianqian? What’s wrong?”
“Mom, Yuxi’s not feeling well,” Ming Qian said calmly. “I called an ambulance three minutes ago. Could you help her get dressed?”
Su Xi’s pupils constricted at the news. She hurried back to the guest bedroom, rushed to the bed, and touched Wen Yuxi’s forehead, her heart aching with worry. “What happened? Why is she running a fever?”
“It’s a high-fever period,” Ming Qian explained from the doorway, her back to the room. “But this isn’t like a normal high-fever period. We need to get her to the hospital.”
“Thank you so much for handling this, Qianqian,” Su Xi said apologetically as she helped her daughter dress. “She’s always been so healthy. I don’t know what’s wrong today…”
Ming Qian replied softly, “We’re family. There’s no need to thank me.”
The ambulance arrived quickly. Su Xi woke her husband, who had just fallen asleep, and the family rode together to the hospital.
Wen Jiayang, still groggy, asked, “What’s wrong with our daughter?”
“She has a fever,” Su Xi replied anxiously. “A high-fever period and a fever? I hope she doesn’t get delirious.”
“A high-fever period and a fever?” Wen Jiayang paused, then his face darkened as a realization struck him.
A few minutes later, the ambulance pulled into the hospital. Medical staff rushed Wen Yuxi into the emergency room. After a series of tests, Ming Qian arranged for her admission to a VIP ward.
Half an hour later, the results came back. The three family members went to the doctor’s office to retrieve the reports.
The doctor’s tone was grave. “The patient’s glandular hormones are severely imbalanced, with levels far exceeding the average for a normal heat cycle. This indicates clear stimulation from drugs.”
Drug stimulation?
Ming Qian’s suspicions were confirmed. Her thoughts churned like a dark tide as she turned to look at Wen Jiayang, her gaze steady and profound.
She had truly underestimated the ambition of certain individuals.
Wen Jiayang’s face was ashen. His Adam’s apple bobbed nervously, and a cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
Su Xi looked utterly bewildered. “Drugs? Doctor, can this be treated?”
The doctor shook his head. “I’m afraid I don’t know. The Empire banned the production of forced-heat drugs six centuries ago. We have no records of similar cases in this hospital, so there’s no established treatment protocol. We can only temporarily alleviate the patient’s fever symptoms.”
“Apart from the abnormal pheromone concentration and glandular hormone levels, the patient’s vital signs are stable and there’s no immediate danger to her life. If you’re not satisfied with this, you’re welcome to seek a second opinion from a specialist.”
